TheChaplain··on Nicolas Cage Says the MCU 'Is Becoming a Well-Funded and Glorified WWE'
Quite rage-baity title, no?

What he actually said:

“I do say this with love,” Cage said at the convention. “When I see these 50-plus and otherwise intelligent and remarkably gifted thespians putting on these ridiculous outfits and getting ready for the fight — let’s face it, it’s all cutting to the fight — it’s hard for me not to be reminded that the MCU is becoming a well-funded and glorified WWE.”

TheChaplain··on McDonald's push to have AI price your Big Mac
I haven't had McD for like 15 years, is it any better these days or same thing just pricier?
TheChaplain··on I don't read code anymore
I don't believe so. I am sure you've also notice that Claude is already ridiculously good these days, and becoming better for every month. That goes for other providers as well.

I don't know where they are today, but when I left they were very very enthusiastic.

TheChaplain··on I don't read code anymore
Prompting is being automated.

A company I am consulted at last month is working on a process to have Figma drawings and business requirements written by BA's to be translated to Angular.

Their goal is to have the software engineering steps entirely done by AI.

TheChaplain··on Uproar in France over award-winning author accused of using AI
I am with you, AI is a tool, and it matters how you use it.

I believe overuse of AI will be detrimental to your cognitive function, because the brain, like most organs in your body needs "exercise" to function well.

TheChaplain··on Woman Arrested, Dragged Away After Speaking About Flock at City Council Meeting
Thanks for bringing up the whole picture. No down-votes from me.
TheChaplain··on Raspberry Pi blocks changing RAM chips
Except that they have to deal with angry people who bought a dodgy chipped unit.

Yeah it's stupid, but people doesn't know better, they'll complain loudly Raspberry PI is sh* it doesn't work and the Pi Foundation are scammers.

I can understand why they don't want that.

TheChaplain··on Reverse engineering my e-scooter and rewriting the firmware in Rust
Because if they are riding it safely, there would be no need to bypass the restrictions.

There is reason for speed limits, they are not there to f--k with people for fun.

TheChaplain··on Reverse engineering my e-scooter and rewriting the firmware in Rust
From what I've seen on the streets, people bypassing the restrictions will not, and there will be injuries.
TheChaplain··on US police fear Meta smart glasses could be used to secretly record them
I am a little more concerned over creeps, stalkers, pedos and teenage bullies.
TheChaplain··on I Changed My License
In all honesty, a license matters little to nothing if there is no enforcement behind it. And enforcement needs pockets deep enough to drive a legal process.

A normal person like me? No way, I can't afford the money nor time.

I know GPL have some backing of SFC and FSF, but all others like EUPL, MIT, APL and so forth?

TheChaplain··on Mom gets 6-month suspended sentence for letting 5-year-old walk to the pond
If this was the same in the 1970's my parents would have been executed and me and my siblings in a orphanage.

Actually the village would probably enjoyed that, I was a real "Swedish Emil" as a kid..

TheChaplain··on OpenShot 4.0 – Open-source video editor
Your loss then. Although I prefer KDEnlive, OpenShot is not a bad video editor.

And I don't think it's a terrible thing for an open source developer to try to earn a few coins.

TheChaplain··on European Commission Revives Push for Encryption Backdoors in ProtectEU Strategy
These threads are amusing.

In an earlier one about Iceland and EU, people criticizing EU were downvoted, called russian bots or far-right. I don't expect much difference here.

Chat control and ProtectEU are certainly not the last totalitarian measures EU will invent, there will be more. And I find it interesting that people still defend EU without any hesitation.

Now I think the initial trade union was great and a necessary counter weight when competing with larger economies and countries. But it rather quickly evolving into something that is less concerned about the citizens, and more about staying in power.

TheChaplain··on GIMP Development Update
It could also be that the Gimp team and community wants their software a certain way, and I don't see why one should disrespect that?

Those who disagree are welcome to fork- and maintain it, if the users see value in it, they'll switch.

TheChaplain··on Stop sending me huge PRs; a rant
Someone has to be responsible, because it sure won't do to call Anthropic at 4 am and ask why Claude caused your service to rack up $5m on AWS and delete all backups.
TheChaplain··on Flutter 3.47
Are Flutter and React Native still viable choices today?

I get the impression that more are going for native mobile, KMP or PWA.

TheChaplain··on Toot.community is shutting down
Question: Is there some kind of official protocol for Mastodon?

Reason I ask, is if whoever is in charge have considered to support moving posts and interactions from one server to another.

TheChaplain··on DMARC has been public since 2012 but most company domains still don't enforce it
If you have any domains that does not use email, it may be a good idea to set up some DNS records to prevent it being used.

DNS SPF record: mydomain.io. TXT "v=spf1 -all"

DNS DMARC: _dmarc.mydomain.io. TXT "v=DMARC1; p=reject; sp=reject; adkim=s; aspf=s"

That ought to stop anyone trying to use your domains as source.

TheChaplain··on German battery maker Varta files insolvency applications
It's not that bad, they still make money on consumer- and micro batteries. Needs a bit of restructuring.
TheChaplain··on Protecting our FLOSS commons from LLMs
I don't really see a problem with this decision (or the one regarding crypto), they were voted on by the active members of Codeberg, simply a democratic outcome.
TheChaplain··on Codeberg Bans Cryptocurrency Projects
You need to specifically register as an active member to get voting rights.
TheChaplain··on Moonstone: Modern, cross-platform Lua runtime and package manager written in Zig
Ah slight disappointment, first I thought it was a revival of the hack-n-slash Moonstone-game from the Amiga era.

But projects made in Zig are just as cool :)

TheChaplain··on Australian energy retailers must provide three hours of free daytime electricity
They could just sidestep it, by making the electricity free but the transport or cable use more expensive, no?
TheChaplain··on Interview with Mitchell Hashimoto about Ghostty and Zig
I've tried to learn rust of the longest time but failed, it's not the community that is the problem but the language itself. It is far from aesthetically pleasing, a child of perl and c++ meta template programming that inherited the worst traits of both.

Go and Python are my current preference, and C being an old soul mate.

TheChaplain··on Why developers are ditching GitHub for Codeberg and self-hosting alternatives
If I understand it correctly, their target is projects like the recent pgrust (PostgreSQL in rust) which are full conversions of projects that no-one else will ever use. It's just noise.
TheChaplain··on The Art of Computer Programming by Donald E. Knuth
I am not a believer, but pray that whichever $DEITY is watching over Donald Knuth allows him a healthy and long life to reach the achievement of finishing volume 7.
TheChaplain··on Explanation of everything you can see in htop/top on Linux
This is really good!

I use htop often but pretty much only use it to find pid or cpu-culprits, and never really understood the rest.

TheChaplain··on The Vespa at 80
Euro5 also means >90% less exhaust fumes compared to Euro1 which was introduced 1999 iirc. The difference between a 1950 and 2026 Vespa must be huge.
TheChaplain··on Germany’s Infineon opens major chip plant as EU seeks tech autonomy
Funny that the article didn't mention it.

Infineon got €1bn of tax payer money to open the plant (~$1.1bn).
