Teapot··on goomwwm: Get out of my way, Window Manager
I used evilwm for several years back on RedHat 7.x. I've been stuck on XP since. I fondly remember the fun of exploring just how stripped-down WM i could practically use. And how tiny resources it used.

http://www.6809.org.uk/evilwm/ it's a massive 40k download.

Teapot··on Google Service Drops Support for Opera
Opera walks on to a site. And Google says: We dont serve your kind here.
Teapot··on Face opera
Then FastMail would instantly lose me as regular user. I'd just use it for junk mail.
Teapot··on "Do Not Track" HTTP header supported by IE, Opera, FF, Safari but not Chrome
Without JS and Cookies the web is too crippled. It's not an option for most people. DNT tries to fix this on a more legal level than technical.
Teapot··on Steve Ballmer's Microsoft
Microsoft is only as good as the people paying allows it to be. If/when Windows refunds becomes popular, and people get the next-door kid to install an OS and LibreOffice. Then MS dies fast.
Teapot··on Google, I've had enough. How about a Compromise?
Hey, at least you get to pick your ads. :P Btw, a simple search for anything geeky gets me tons of dating ads. (i havent installed adblock on my Opera test-browser). Pics of smiling chicks may be preferred over ugly medical conditions.
Teapot··on Introducing The New Bing: Spend Less Time Searching, More Time Doing
"Ads are just more answers"

I think ads and social should compete equally with other content in Results. In that, most ads should rank just above the spam at the bottom. And Social results should rank as any opinions, like forums and such.

Where's the money in that? Dont know, but users would flock.

Teapot··on CSS arrow please
I was going to use an CSS tool today, but, then i took an arrow to the knee.
Teapot··on An Effort To Bury A Throwaway Culture One Repair At A Time
I'm pissed when things brake. But: Repairing things is an opportunity to save your own money. And to save your own planet. And possibly explore and learn something new, or at least harvest some spare parts. And just enjoy the fun of disassembling stuff.
Teapot··on We don't support Internet Explorer, and we're calling that a feature
Obvisouly, positive inclusive action is better than negative action.

Properly detect IE without false-positives. <!--[if IE]> And inform IE-users a clear and simple explaination that IE is obsolete. And there's options for easy solutions to update to better browser. Links to the usual browser choices.

Teapot··on 4 Weeks with DuckDuckGo
While i'm a big fan of privacy. I think DDG's biggest advantage over G is the lack of bubble. Which gives users better Results.

Us techier people knows that it's a more complicated, but there's no need to bother users with grey areas. "I upgraded the Search Engine for everyone, it's a bit better now"

Google changes so much these days that most users wont notice it's not G anymore.

Teapot··on 4 Weeks with DuckDuckGo
+ But it's easy to remember though.

+ Longer names are more visible.

(i was shocked that MS didnt take the name Microsoft Live Bing Home-Professional DotNET UltraGold Edition)

First time i used google i was thinking they misspelled goggles.

Teapot··on 4 Weeks with DuckDuckGo
New user motto, 'Use no evil.'
Teapot··on DRM-Free Day, forever.
I'm thinking that people that cant afford, or thinks that 50$ is overpriced, are correct. Just as those paying for it are also correct. Just as those that would pay even more. Fixed prices is a tradeoff that is needless nowadays. Try a better way. ● Spread the book far a wide on torrents everywhere. Make the Book also freely downloadable from your site. ● This maximizes the number of readers. ● This maximizes the number of readers that wants more books. ● Tell them that that next book is planned, it will cost this much to write. Donate here. BitCoin, Flattr, PayPal, etc. (It's no more begging then begging for 50$ per book)

The upside is far more readers and thus far more potential payers. And variable payment makes it affordable for everyone. The cost of writing is also payed in advance, no more worries about how the book may sell.

And finally, zero piracy. =O

Teapot··on Google is making a huge and annoying mistake
youtube has been going downhill for several years now. The only thing that keeps people from fleeing is the poor alternatives out there, so far..
Teapot··on Bing revamps its search page with much cleaner design
Seems bloat and clutter AdBlock filter for Bing looks like this now,

Teapot··on Hacker News Redesign
Yeah. During several years i visited HN from time to time, frowning at the old-school layout. And promptly left. Until one day, i matured enough, and realized that simplicity is elegant.

Though, i dislike the low-contrast browngray background. It's annoying for reading.

Make the layout user-customizable to each login. Let users choose. Is that too hard?

Teapot··on NameCheap Overtakes Go Daddy In Google
Even those without domains to move can also do something useful, Convert any links to GoDaddy that you may have to plaintext. This also boosts your remaining links :D

While at it, convert all links you may have to crummy places to plaintext.

Teapot··on What is randomness? Nobody knows..
Sometimes randomness spits out what we call patterns. 123456 seems like a pattern to us, and our beloved compression algos we wrote. But 123456 is just as random as any combo. I think. Right?

Related thinking, Sean Carroll on TED- Arrow of Time http://y2u.be/WMaTyg8wR4Y He says there's 'more' or 'less' entropy, but is there really such a thing? Rolling 6666666 on a dice, and we scream luck! But rolling 3164536 should be just as likely/unlikely.

Teapot··on The origins of the blink HTML element
And animated gifs. They all have thier uses though. It's harder to think anything useful for blink.

The cops needs the blink tag for thier emergency ASCII,

       _<blink>o</blink>___
  ____/ _| _ \___

Teapot··on Google Drive detailed: 5 GB of free space, launching next week
I shouldn't have to. But i got no way to be sure Google leaves me completely. I auto-clear all types of cookies on each browser exit anyway, for performance.
Teapot··on Google Drive detailed: 5 GB of free space, launching next week
Google wants people to Login. And remain Logged in. Gathering data about people is more valuable when it's tied to an individual.

(I'm very restrictive when i do have to login. I do what i'm there for. Nothing else. Then quickly logout.)

Teapot··on We Got Hacked, Here's What We Found
Do it using TorBrowser. That really angers big G.
Teapot··on Save the Internet from the US
Well, some good comes from this. It raises awareness. Anyone new to these issues becomes informed.
Teapot··on Throw Out Everything You Know About Ads
I've seen pages where the Text Ads have the same Style as the overall page. The only thing that sets the Ad apart is a small grey text 'Ads' or the like.

I've may have seen far more of such pages. But obviously i can't tell since they're near-impossible to spot the Ads.

The trend is keeping things "by the book" from search engines point of view, And manipulate humans in subtle ways by confusing contents and ads.

Teapot··on Mozilla: Are We Slim Yet?
"Do i look fat?" It's a trap! If we say 'No' then the bloat continues. And if we say 'Yes you're fat' she runs away crying. And the bloat still continues.

Honestly, Yes. You're still fat. But some progress has been made. Keep going. Stop when you hear the first complaint about too skinny.

Teapot··on All April Fools' Day Jokes on the Web Are Here (so they don't clutter HN)
Today is a good day to promote any low-quality site, since everyone Clicks on everything expecting to get a quick laugh.

And then they find out there was no joke. But they still got FOOLED.

Teapot··on Google’s Future: What The Search Engine Will Look Like In Next 20 Years
20 years is like 200 years in internet-time.

Computers gets faster and cheaper. Eventually everyone affords their own Search-Engine. Flavored to their own personal needs, with 100% privacy, and with higher search-quality.

Spoiler alert! Google Search dies.

Teapot··on Interview with Richard Stallman, Founder of Free Software Foundation
Now we need another clever thing. A GPL-ish set of Rules for for-profit business.

Think about it, if for example Google had a 'We're Legally bound to never be evil' eithical rule.

Does such a thing already exist perhaps? Or is there some wierdness that prevent it from happening?

Teapot··on Microsoft Makes Fun of Older IE versions To Promote IE9
Yup, eventually XP becomes less attacked, and in practice, more secure. While people moving in droves to newer untested Windows that are heavily attacked.

I'll stay with XP until it becomes undefendable. Then i'll move to Linux.
