Tarsul··on Ex-CIA Whistleblower: "The NSA Audited the 2024 Election, Kamala Harris Won"
In Germany there was basically 20 years of "digital is the future, so voting has also to be digital" in media, politics etc. However, because Germany is a digital laggard, it just never happened, which is why the waiting time was long enough for the opinion to change enough that nowadays digital voting is not even in discussion.

See, sometimes waiting solves problems. So, TL;DR America was too quick with digital voting, which is why it became entrenched. Should've been laggards like Germany.

Tarsul··on End of an Era
Sometimes when I play a point n click adventure and I am stuck for hours on a puzzle I tend to think: I've tried everything... surely there must be some kind of bug for why I am not proceeding.

Only to then realize (after reading the walkthrough) that there was indeed a way.

I think it's human nature to find (rather search) blame not only in yourself but everywhere else... anyhow, since the author is reflective we should be forgiving as well.

Tarsul··on Social anxiety disorder-associated gut microbiota increases social fear
Thank you for posting. You made my day as well :)
Tarsul··on Social anxiety disorder-associated gut microbiota increases social fear
Maybe. But eating sweets makes me eat more anyway. Which leads to me gaining weight. So it's the same anyhow.
Tarsul··on Social anxiety disorder-associated gut microbiota increases social fear
I am talking about the sugar in sweets. My daily apple does not appear to heighten my anxiety.
Tarsul··on Social anxiety disorder-associated gut microbiota increases social fear
do you substitute your fruits with vegetables? Maybe I should try it as well but then again my daily apple is one of my highlights.
Tarsul··on Social anxiety disorder-associated gut microbiota increases social fear
I know from personal experience that eating sugar does induce more anxiety in me. This might sound weird but I can "physically feel" in my head a certain anxiety when e.g. I think about something awkward. This "physical feel" stopped being there when I stopped eating sweets for a few weeks. One reason why I try to keep my sugar intake down (the other being in danger of getting diabetes...).

Thus, I wholly believe this study.

Tarsul··on Beware the Intention Economy: Collection and Commodification of Intent via LLMs
Anyhow, wasn't democracy losing already without llms? As in, voters were already voting against their own interests due to social media and media in control of people with agendas.

Idk, I think bullshitting people works just too damn well anyhow. Doesn't even have to be sophisticated.

Tarsul··on Chatbots are replacing Google's search, devastating traffic for some publishers
but that cuts both ways. They hold not only your own party accountable but also the other parties. Thus, if you are a politican that has a moral compass and believe you are the one who does the best job, then you would like a well-respected media organisation because you would think that it hits the other guys more often than yourself.

But yes.. this only works so long as the amount of politicans with a moral compass are a majority... the moment this changes is the moment that the media is the enemy.

Tarsul··on Chatbots are replacing Google's search, devastating traffic for some publishers
Anyone surprised? I mean that's just what Google does and did from the very early days. I am more ashamed that politicians worldwide have done basically nothing to help media companies in the last 25 years.

We can always ask ourselves: What is more important for our society: independent media or our search overlords?

Tarsul··on Europe's Climate Urgency: Driven by Green Ideals or Fear of an African Refugees?
Why do we Europeans care? Because climate change is destroying the foundations of our life. The real question should be why are others caring less?

But back to us Europeans: Since we already have "basically" everything we want (including low inequality), we can afford to look forward to dangers that lurk only on the horizon. Also, our politicians do listen to their voters (at least sometimes) because media is less corrupt and votes count. This all helps.

Nonetheless, Europe is still too slow and we are heading right into the climate desaster anyway. But at least we did and do something. Yes, it lets me sleep better.

Tarsul··on The longest train journey is epic – but nobody's ever taken it
Problem with their website is that it appears that your journey is possible only to then be disappointed at the last step of the check-out. Happens way too often and especially for international travel.

Btw. I nearly traveled from Budapest to Hamburg in a single train but alas as written above I had to put in a stop in Munich just so that I could finish my order (both routes were roughly 14hours which I found quite manageable).

Tarsul··on Game preservationists say Switch2 GameKey Cards are disheartening but inevitable
Nintendo has raised the physical prices for Switch 2 games more than the digital edition. E.g. Mario Kart physical will cost 90USD/EUR and digitally 80USD/EUR. Thus, their retail-friendliness has diminished with the new generation.
Tarsul··on A Reddit bot drove me insane
My personal opinion is that downvotes, upvotes and algorithms are design decisions that often stick before the best one is found. It's a shame really, because I think it's not only really important (e.g. to combat fake news/users etc.) but most interesting. Nonetheless, HN did good with their version where the max. downvote of a comment is -4 and where the up/downvote of a comment is not listed publicly. All functions that help with community building. However, I fret the moment when AI users and shills take over (especially since throwaway accounts are so easy to create).
Tarsul··on Germany tightens travel advice to US after three citizens detained
good points regarding the Canadian. For the Germans: I don't believe that the statements from the ministry are indicative of the three individual cases. Regarding one case, I read in an interview with him that he was detained because his English was poor: He said he "lived" in the USA when he actually meant to say he was just visiting there. That was enough to incarcerate him. Sure, he probably came across as a bit sketchy anyway because his fiancée is American and they have a long-distance relationship, but those are not valid reasons to treat him like that.

Tarsul··on Basketball has evolved into a game of calculated decision-making
The point about 3 pointer shots being worth more than 2 pointer shots is generally true. However, in the playoffs, when the going gets tough, usually the jitters set in and the teams hit a lot less 3 pointers than in the regular season. Especially with the season on the line in endgames[1]. Which means: In those cases easy baskets and also mid-range shots (from people who are used to making those) regain their importance. Thus, if you have your playoffs in mind, don't forget to plan for those middies!

pretty good, imo. Goes to show that comedy (like art) really is a lot about generic rules that are learnable (not only for LLMs!).
Tarsul··on No Man's Sky's update introduces billions of new stars, planets, and more
I think the craziest turnaround story was Final Fantasy XIV, which was so bad at release that the following shitstorms meant that everyone expected it would go the way most MMOs go (soon forgotten). But not with Square-Enix (who had a money maker with their previous MMO Final Fantasy 11) who commited to revamping the whole game which took basically 3 years but in the end it became a really good game with a lot of happy players. (I have not played it myself so would like to listen to what players themselves say!)
