SwiftyBug··on Bun 1.2 Is Released
Not only that, but when the new hot JS runtime inevitably drops, it's going to be a pain to move to that.
SwiftyBug··on Florida man eats diet of butter, cheese, beef; cholesterol oozes from his body
What, why?
SwiftyBug··on Merry Christmas Everyone
Ok, you gotta tell us that you named your baby Jesus, please.
SwiftyBug··on Ask HN: What is the best thing you read in 2024?
Crafting Intepreters, by Robert Nystrom.

I didn't realise how simple it can be to design a simple programming language. I'm having a lot of fun doing it.

SwiftyBug··on Review of Mullvad VPN
They certainly spent a gazillion dollars advertising on every billboard and subway car in Manhattan.
SwiftyBug··on Luigi's Manifesto
Maybe he knew that it would keep the event in the news longer?
SwiftyBug··on Weak pointers in Go: why they matter now
In the end of the article the author addresses some of the pitfalls of using weak pointers. You'll only shoot yourself in the foot if you don't fundamentally understand weak pointers and why you're using them in the first place.
SwiftyBug··on Show HN: I'm 17 and made a tool to help students study smarter
Cheating being acceptable ultimately comes down to a moral judgement. My issue with this product is that I don't think it's effective. Also, its marketed as a "smarter way to study", which, unless is a gross euphemism, doesn't seem to have "cheating" as its goal.
SwiftyBug··on Show HN: I'm 17 and made a tool to help students study smarter
This product claims to unlock "smarter" studying. How does it make studying smarter?

I'm assuming this uses some LLM to generate answers. How can you guarantee that they are accurate, as you claim?

I'm skeptical of this product simply because I don't believe studying is hard because we don't have enough tools. It's hard because the process to build knowledge is inherently long. It takes patience and revisiting topics and concepts many times. Even if you had all the best content on the subject you want to learn, this wouldn't make your learning much faster/easier. Because in the end of the day, what builds knowledge is repeated exposure to the subject, from multiple angles.

SwiftyBug··on FlutterFlash - Ship your next Flutter app, at lightning speed
Off-topic: I really hate this design trend for dev-related products where everything is dark mode and very low constrast. It's terrible for reading the content of the page.
SwiftyBug··on How gophers brought Mount St. Helens back to life in one day
Not only that, but I first thought this was about Go developers.
SwiftyBug··on Verbalize – text editor with writing assistance for Brazilian Portuguese
Am I using this wrong? I tried inputting a very simple test with obvious things to be corrected, but I get no warnings.

SwiftyBug··on The backlash against the world's most hated font may be ending
My state-issued, official high school diploma is written in Comic Sans. I love it!
SwiftyBug··on Ask HN: What are things you wish you knew about hiring engineers?
Why?
SwiftyBug··on 52 Factorial
Is it safe to say that it's almost certain that no two people have ever shuffled a deck of cards in the exact same order?
SwiftyBug··on Show HN: Facad. The ls alternative making terminals cooler than GUIs
"fassade"
SwiftyBug··on Interning in Go
Seems like the classic trade-off of compute time x memory.
SwiftyBug··on Show HN: Infinity – Realistic AI characters that can speak
+1 for the lips matching the dubbed speech, but I'm not sure about cloning the actor's voice. I really like dubbing actor's unique voices and how they become the voice of some characters in their language.
SwiftyBug··on Poor man's signals – tiny vanilla JavaScript signals implementation
I didn't know about that either. I find the new keyword useful as it instantly lets me know that I can expect the left-hand operator of the expression to be an object of a class, whereas cont foo = bar("value") doesn't say much about what foo is.
SwiftyBug··on The Calendar of Sound of Hermeto Pascoal (2020) [pdf]
Does anyone know of a complete recorded version of Calendário do Som?
SwiftyBug··on How to keep up with AI/ML as a full stack dev?
One thing I noticed about this behavior of LLMs "seeing" their error when you correct them is that sometimes I'm not even correcting them, just asking follow up questions that they interpret as me pointing out some mistake. Example:

Me: - Write a Go function that will iterate over the characters of a string and print them individually.

~Claude spits out code that works as intended.~

Me: - Do you think we should iterate over runes instead?

Claude: – You are absolutely right! Sorry for my oversight, here's the fixed version of the code:

I just wanted to reason about possibilities, but it always takes my question as if I'm pointing out mistakes. This makes me feel not very confident in their answers.

SwiftyBug··on RubyGateway: Embed Ruby in Swift
The industry standard is to wait until Hacktoberfest to open that PR.
SwiftyBug··on Google pulls the plug on uBlock Origin
Even a lot of engineer folks are way less tech savvy than you would think. Doing some pair programming makes you realize how little people actually know the tools they're working wth.
SwiftyBug··on Does Astrology Work?
If someone, even the ones who believe in astrology, believe it works that way, that's a problem with the person, not with astrology. Astrology doesn't state that x and y alone don't go well together. It points the struggles and harmonies between two sets of highly complex birth charts. Disclaimer: I don't believe in astrology, but I know a little about its ground rules.
SwiftyBug··on Node.js adds experimental support for TypeScript
YES. It was such a joy to be able to ditch Jest completely and run tests natively.
SwiftyBug··on Ask HN: Is there any software you only made for your own use but nobody else?
I second this! This is somehting I'd love to use.
SwiftyBug··on Making "Zen Browser" A Firefox based browser that focuses on customizations
Yesterday I was trying to figure out how to configure keymaps in Firefox to open specific container tabs. Spoiler: you can't. It made me wish there was some way to customize Firefox using Lua or some other language.
SwiftyBug··on Claude Sonnet 3.5 – The New Benchmark in Conversational AI
Not to mention that it is way less verbose than Chat GPT.
SwiftyBug··on Claude 3.5 Sonnet
Before I read your comment I was looking for a solution to use Claude as co-pilot in Neovim. I've seen in Double's website FAQ that it's not supported yet. Do you have an idea if this feature is expected to land anytime soon?
SwiftyBug··on Oldest white wine in the world found in a first-century tomb in Spain
I would expect that after all this time the whole liquid content would have evaporated.
