SwiftyBug··on Code⇄GUI bidirectional editing via LSP
This is awesome! If someone created a Interface Builder on top of that, I feel like I might even go back to making iOS apps. Xcode makes the whole experience so terrible that it sucks the joy out of it.
SwiftyBug··on JavaScript Trademark Update
You have my sword.
SwiftyBug··on JavaScript Trademark Update
We should just use ECMAScript. A big part of the ecosystem uses the terms esm, es5, es6, esnext, etc.
SwiftyBug··on Show HN: I'm an airline pilot – I built interactive graphs/globes of my flights
Do you travel a lot? Because a trip from east to west coasts of the US expose you to less radiation than an X-Ray exam. Doesn't seem that shocking.
SwiftyBug··on BYOK – Bring Your Own Keyboard
I think they aimed for a very portable format. I think it's a bit took much especially considering that you will be already carrying a keyboard anyway.
SwiftyBug··on Show HN: Lego Island Playable in the Browser
I'd love to be able to play Lego Island 2.
SwiftyBug··on Liquid Glass – WWDC25 [video]
hahaha This is hilarious.

Here it is if anyone wants to see it:

SwiftyBug··on Liquid Glass – WWDC25 [video]
I was thinking the same thing. This communication style is outdated. All I see is an attempt of mimicking Steve Job's style in keynotes. But that looked natural on him somehow.
SwiftyBug··on The fastest way to detect a vowel in a string
Is y considered a vowel in English? In my native language it is not.
SwiftyBug··on Apple introduces a universal design across platforms
All I wanted was an option in settings that allows me to turn off all animations on macOS. How hard can that be?
SwiftyBug··on EU OS for the Public Sector
Technically, yes. But there's always something that doesn't render well.
SwiftyBug··on EU OS for the Public Sector
It really pisses me off when some kind of public service demands documents in the format docx or expects one such document to be filled and uploaded. They can't truly assume that every single citizen must have a license of Microsoft Office.
SwiftyBug··on Redesigned Swift.org is now live
I would love to try Swift for things other than iOS if it had nice development tools. I don't ask for much. A decent LSP and code formatter are all I want. I refuse to use Xcode, so being able to code Swift in my code editor of preference would be great.
SwiftyBug··on Show HN: Kan.bn – An open-source alterative to Trello
Im curious about the choice of Next.js for an open source project as Next.js is notoriously painful to deploy to anything other than Vercel.
SwiftyBug··on Microsandbox: Virtual Machines that feel and perform like containers
Awesome. This is really good timing. I'm going to give it a try.
SwiftyBug··on Microsandbox: Virtual Machines that feel and perform like containers
Kind of almost off-topic: I'm working on a project where I must run possibly untrusted JavaScript code. I want to run it in an isolated environment. This looks like a very nice solution as I could spin up a microsandbox and securely run the code. I could even have a pool os live sandboxes so I wouldn't even experience the 200ms starts. Because this is OCI-compatible, I could even provide a whole sandboxed environment on which to run that code. Would that be a good use case for this? Are there better alternatives?
SwiftyBug··on Ask HN: What projects do you donate to?
I've been sponsoring the Gleam language on GitHub for almost a year now. For no reason other than: the community is awesome, Louis Pilfold has done an incredible job creating an amazing community. The most inclusive and supportive community I've ever seen.

SwiftyBug··on What’s new in Swift 6.2
That's how Zig tests work. This is basically a function with a different syntax.

test "strip html tags from string" {

  ...

}
SwiftyBug··on Finland Bans Smartphones in Schools
This is crazy. 16.5 is stronger than regular wine.
SwiftyBug··on Ask HN: Writing an Interpreter in Go or Crafting Interpreters?
I'm doing Crafting Interpreters... in Go! The book uses Java, but I prefer Go so I just went with it. It was an interesting exercise to "translate" the understanding of the implementation shown in the book (which relies heavily in OOP) to something more idiomatic in Go.
SwiftyBug··on Gleam v1.10.0 Released
The tooling for Gleam, although not perfect, is one of the best among more younger languages. The other day I saw a post about Crystal here that got me interested, but the LSP and code formatting aren't very good, which makes the whole experience a lot worse. Programming with Gleam is fun in part thanks to the tooling.
SwiftyBug··on Brazil's government-run payments system has become dominant
I've been living in Brazil for the last 20 years.

Pix revolutionised the way we transact in Brazil. I've used Pix to pay for things that cost only cents, and I have a friend who bought her house using Pix. The system just works for any transfer amount. And it's so easy to use.

Its speed is truly baffling, and so is its reliability. Never have I failed to make a Pix payment because of downtime. I never cease to be amazed by how fast money arrives in my Brazilian account when I make a withdrawal directly from my EUR wallet on Wise. I receive a push notification from my Brazilian bank before Wise finishes running the animation of confirmation of withdrawal. It's like magic.

And it's so widespread that nowadays I don't even question whether someone accepts Pix. When I get in a taxi, no matter how old the driver is, it's certain that they take (and prefer) Pix.

I've even had homeless people ask me for Pix instead of change on multiple occasions.

Cryptocurrencies don't stand a chance.

SwiftyBug··on I don't like traveling anymore
Is it though? At any age we have some kind of experienced wisdom. It's what guides us moving forward. Of course, my experienced wisdom at 30 is different to what I had at 20, however it's not a replacement of the former, but built on top of it.
SwiftyBug··on I don't like traveling anymore
I'm the same age as the author. I've been feeling exactly the same. I feel like in the past there was something magical about travelling. It was like seeing a different world for the first time. Everything was exciting and I noticed every little aspect of the place such as license plates, trash bins, road signs. I still notice those things but I can't help but notice that that feeling of awe is gone. I've been attributing this to age, but who knows, maybe the world is becoming less diverse?
SwiftyBug··on Show HN: The C3 programming language (C alternative language)
Making compilers are not that hard. Sure, it grows in complexity as you make it more feature-complete. But writing compilers is actually a lot of fun. If you're interested in compilers you should definitely try making a simple one. This book is free and a great starting point: https://craftinginterpreters.com/. I'm not associates with the book author in any way, I just found incredible value in it.
SwiftyBug··on AnimeJs v4 Is Here
There's nothing unconventional about Microsoft Edge. It's pretty much Chrome.
SwiftyBug··on Manifest: A 1-file micro-back end
I love Pocketbase! In particular using it as framework. I use it as CMS and auth system and add my custom application routes to the server. It's very easy to seamlessly leverage all its infrastructure.
SwiftyBug··on 40% of Britons haven't read a single book in the last 12 months
Definitely. It's not like prime literature, but it's good, entertaining reads. I was 12 when I read his books and I got in contact with so many concepts previously unknown. Things about art, the Catholic church, places in Europe, the CERN, the LHC. The first contact I had with the concept of cryptography was reading Digital Fortress. The first time I heard about the NSA was reading Digital Fortress. It definitely expanded my view of the world.
SwiftyBug··on 40% of Britons haven't read a single book in the last 12 months
What do you mean? What makes a book more thought provoking than video games? Disclaimer: I do not play videos games. I just don't enjoy them. I'm not in defence of them. I'm just thought-provoked about why you think video games are essentially less then books.
SwiftyBug··on Building a list of European projects/companies, can you help me to add more?
Also, Gleam.
