Sunhold··on Sam Altman goes before US Congress to propose licenses for building AI
The taxi industry is a famous example of regulatory capture and its harms.
Sunhold··on Translating Akkadian clay tablets with ChatGPT?
The translations in this article use GPT-3 (the free version), not GPT-4 (ChatGPT Pro). You can tell by the green logo.
Sunhold··on Releasing 3B and 7B RedPajama
Took me a bit to realize this comment was written by an LLM.
Sunhold··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
Learning to draw at the level of what Stable Diffusion can generate would take thousands of hours of practice, and the individual drawings would take hours.
Sunhold··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
Not really. A team of licensed health care professional rated "the quality of information provided".
Sunhold··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
Why do you think it matters if five out of six images are failures? If the sixth is a success, you have your image. The tool has worked. Glancing over a few failed generations is certainly far less effort than making the image from scratch.
Sunhold··on MouthPad – In-Mouth Bluetooth Mouse Uses Tongue Sensitive Trackpad
Product 1 never reached the market. Product 2 and 3 are very different.
Sunhold··on Analyzing the websites that are used to train AI chatbots
Unless you actually checked the article, ChatGPT likely hallucinated the figures and picked a plausible-sounding source. Most likely, nothing changed when you tried a few days later. The responses are stochastic due to the temperature setting. If anything did change, it was probably an update to reduce hallucination.
Sunhold··on I’m a doctor: Here’s what I found when I asked ChatGPT to diagnose my patients
I'm a translator, and that might be true for Google Translate, but not GPT-4. GPT-4 produces translations that are generally accurate, and when instructed to copyedit its own work, well-written. In most cases, all I need to do is fix the occasional error and do some light copyediting. This is much less work than translating from scratch and results in superior quality, since it combines my own skills with the AI's. It is also useful for researching equivalents to obscure terms across languages.
Sunhold··on Capabilities of GPT-4 on Medical Challenge Problems
GPT 4 was evaluated on multiple reasoning benchmarks in the release paper.[1] The problems in TPTP are not really appropriate for a language model and exceed the capabilities of most humans working without tools. Clearly humans have some reasoning ability even if they cannot solve those problems.

Sunhold··on What Will Transformers Transform?
This article repeats the rumor that GPT4 has 100 trillion parameters, which Sam Altman has called "complete bullshit."[1]

Sunhold··on Testing GPT 4's code-writing capabilities with some real world problems
I'm impressed by the talking dog because it's a dog that can talk, not because I think it's a great orator.
Sunhold··on Large language models are having their Stable Diffusion moment
That appears to show that it can't answer some obscure trivia question to the standards of the blog post author. Nothing to do with generalizing concepts.
Sunhold··on Large language models are having their Stable Diffusion moment
This kind of stuff clearly shows that GPT can generalize concepts:

Sunhold··on Large language models are having their Stable Diffusion moment
It didn't. The article is nonsense. He probably primed it beforehand by talking about Sudoku, or it may have just chanced onto something similar. When I ask it to code Sumplete, it creates a "math-based game in which players have to solve a sequence of simple addition problems within a limited time to progress to the next level."
Sunhold··on Large language models are having their Stable Diffusion moment
There is no evidence at all that it copied the smartphone game. No one has even been able to show a textual description of its rules online that could be copied. And modifying the rules of Sudoko to create a variation is well within ChatGPT's known abilities. You can easily test this stuff yourself.
Sunhold··on GPT-3 will ignore tools when it disagrees with them
Did you try? It replies "I'm sorry, but I don't recognize the language or the words you've written. Could you please provide more context or information about the language or the origin of these words? That would help me understand better and provide a more accurate response."
Sunhold··on ChatGPT generated a puzzle game
If it ends early, just ask it to continue. If there is something wrong with the code, ask it to fix it.

Sunhold··on Ask HN: Is anyone else getting AI fatigue?
This is like complaining that your computer isn't able to toast bread. It's a language model based on multicharacter tokens, outputting grids of single characters is not something you would expect it to succeed at.

If you explained the rules carefully and asked it to respond in paragraphs rather than a grid, it might be able to do it. Can't test since it's down now.
