Smartphones have already stolen away the casual gamer. The people playing call of duty and final fantasy are not the people who will be wowed by the apple TV.
If you look at sales data for the Wii, there is a ton of people who bought a Wii, which game with Wii sport and then bought very few games. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Wii_video...)
This will simply solidify that casual market into iPhone and Android apps. Consoles have nothing to fear IMO.
I suppose I should count myself fortunate that I didn't Kickstart Woolfe.
Seeing these failed projects is grim reminder that just because you back something doesn't mean it will be delivered.
Anyone do better? Or get a real dynamic solution?
I don't think that the pure basic income track will work out very well, but I'm curious to see the outcomes of a "system of incentives and rewards".
I think you definitely need to have an action -> reward structure. It's often much more satisfying to have accomplished something rather than just been giving it.
Don't upgrade to 10 and keep your old functionality.
inversionOf is making some valid points here, there is no need to attack him.
I'm looking forward to writing all my android apps in Go!!!
Pretty sure cleaning up after thrown eggs is significantly more work, and more public than hitting the spam button
So if you prayed daily, you would be more likely to rank your class higher, then someone who says they never pray. Someone who is unemployed but makes 200k a year isn't going to rank themselves low on the class scale. Especially versus someone who only makes 30k, and has to work full time.
When John McCain was tortured and was asked to give up the names of his squad mates, he gave the names of the front line of the green bay packers.

Clearly torture is an effective way of getting useless information, you have no way to tell if the info is correct or not, and the prisoner has no incentive to give you the correct information.
People who were cooperating were still tortured, for no apparent reason!

So no, its just people being messed up. There is no logic. There is no reason.
"" Patterns. Can’t live with ’em, can’t live without ’em.
Every single design pattern makes your design more complicated.
Visitors. I rest my case.
""A design pattern demonstrates a solution to a common programming problem! How can you take issue with them? You don't need to program in an OO language to use the concepts that design patterns describe.
The whole article just seems to be anecdotal and full of straw men. If it was written in jest then the humor was lost on me.
"While satisfaction with working hours increased, reductions had no impact on job and life satisfaction."
It seems people did actually like the reduced number of hours, they didn't say that they liked their job more, or found more satisfaction in their life. I feel like for most people a job is something you do to fund the things you really want to do.
I would love to see what worker satisfaction would be if their income was fixed, but they could choose whichever job they wanted. (aka. you'll always get paid the same amount of money regardless of what job you do).
Just like actors and actresses go to Hollywood to be in show business. Many programmers enter the gaming industry so they can work on games.
While I love video games, I can't see myself in the gaming industry.
"Online tools makes it easy to plan your next events."
There is also a big green button that says:
"Plan event free"
So I'm not quite sure why are you are confused about, the site is about planning a events!
Also, do you think if there wasn't as much drama going around that these men still would have been fired?
There is much more to this situation then an employer finding out that one of their employees make a dongle joke at a conference, and decided that was grounds for them to be fired. It is much more likely that the employer doesn't want to be associated with the debate taking place online, rather than being appealed by their employees actions.
So its socially optimum to continue to do what Nvidia is doing ;).
I still think a Hero Academy type system is probably best. It doesn't give you the complexity of building up multiple cities Civ 5 style, but it does give you a multiplier final fantasy tactics, which is awesome!
Reminds me of the documentary "The Fog of War".
>> Yes, eating lots of carbs is bad for you. So is eating lots of fatty food. Or lots of anything. Just eat lots of green stuff, and make sure you get adequate amounts of protein & carbs. To lose weight, make sure calories in < calories out."
By agreeing with him, you have to come to the conclusion that following the above advice is what makes any diet good. There is nothing "unholy" about grains. I believe that was the point nqureshi was trying to make.
Very impressive!
a) Were you considered obese or over weight before you started training for these races?
b) If exercising wasn't the problem, then was it food choices? Did you have to resort to something other than simply lowering calorie intake to reach (and maintain) a healthy weight.
Your also correct I haven't posted any references, my exposure to dieting/lifestyle changes and weight loss is little more than what I hear from colleague, what few articles pop up on hacker news, CBC radio and the little research I've done myself.
Also thank you for the book recommendation, I'll be sure to check it out.
If you want to reach a certain aesthetic then that's fine, but as far as I know the "obesity problem" is more about a persons health and well being, not being aesthetically pleasing.
So we can sit here and point fingers at what diet is best or whether or not we should cut fats out of our diet, but at the end of the day the true issue is simply people do not have the will to exercise, and they either do not have funds or the will to eat a healthy amount of calories.
Accessibility definitely plays a role here.
"Two out of the three publishers are foreign publishing giants..."
I can't imagine any engineer saying that they cannot pay off their student debt because they cannot find a well paying job.
Perhaps a calorie counter suggesting meals for dinner (keeping a balanced diet and all that jazz)? Outfit suggestions based upon the weather?
Grief is a negative factor that directly impacts your life, like your car breaking down, or dreading going home to your spouse.
Grief can be the lack of free time or the abundance of it.
Grief is not I could be x units of happiness happier if I moved to California, therefore I am x units of happy less than I could potentially be.
I think most people know when something is missing in their life. They know if they HATE going to their job. They know if they HATE their neighborhood. In those cases, by all means seeks something better.
Basically this is the same argument has the "I want the best of everything" articles and the 50 dollar utensils. Many people pointed out you don't need the best or the worst you need good enough. What good enough is, is going to change from person to person. However I think we all have a pretty good idea about what good enough (both materialistically, and philosophically).
Aristotle was right, in my opinion.
