Sujan··on Making Tables Responsive with Minimal CSS
I like the idea behind this article, but "Responsive Tables #2: Flexbox" really is a pretty good example of what _not_ to do.

Just hiding the table header definitely does not work - this is how I first "read" the data:

- Slice of Pizza = 450

- 95% = $5.00

- Common = 8/10

And this clearly doesn't make any sense at all.

PS: I would love to see Markdown formatting make it to HN comments one day...

Sujan··on This week’s dead Google product is Google Trips
Oh no, I loved that app! It was so easy to create lists of stuff to visit, as it was basically a "special view" for Google Maps.
Sujan··on Firefox Now Available with Enhanced Tracking Protection by Default
The Lockwise addon is interesting - but that they are not using their own addon site is strange.

The usage examples in the promotion video embedded below the headline look pretty neat. Live streaming, hands free manuals, personalized information.

Sujan··on Windows gets a new terminal
I use scoop on my current installation, it works well enough.

Autoupdates of e.g. Firefox will mess with version numbers a lot. Many apps can't handle being run from a shortcut to a `current` folder that symlinks to a version folder, which means if you want to pin any of those to your task bar you will have to update that shortcut with every update.

Sujan··on Have a personal web site
Read the article the whole article.

The author was the interviewer, and the comment came from a candidate that wanted to research his interviewer as preparation for the interview.

The reasoning why he thinks one should have a personal website follows in the paragraphs "Practice" and "Learning".

Maybe also a translation thing, in German "grounding" is translated to "erden" which means "putting into or connecting to the ground", but "Erde" is also the substantive meaning "earth".

Sujan··on Four Wikipedias to ‘Black Out’ over EU Copyright Directive
Shame that the CTA of e.g. the German Wikipedia is so weak: "Kontaktieren sie ihre Abgeordneten " (translted: contact your representative) which links to https://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/de/home.

Besides the site being super slow right now, I couldn't even figure out how to actually find _my_ representative. Is my representative the one of the city where I live? How can I search by city? Is this even by city? Doesn't seem so. So now I have a list of 96 random people. Which ones can actually influence this? Or which one actually need their opinion changed?

I also wouldn't really know how to contact them - just send an email and write that I hate that the make so bad politics that Wikipedia had to shut down their site in protest?

Politics is hard :/

Sujan··on Chinese TechCrunch Rival 36Kr Is Said to Plan Overseas IPO
That's even worse, because Techchrunch hasn't owned them since 2015. They are fully independent as Crunchbase, Inc. since then.

Sujan··on Chinese TechCrunch Rival 36Kr Is Said to Plan Overseas IPO
Quality reporting over at Bloomberg :(

Although https://36kr.com/ seems to be a magazine style website - so maybe it is not totally wrong, just the explanation of what they do is limited to the wrong bit.

Sujan··on License Utopia
I am not aware of any examples. I was purely speculating what a company trying to sue someone might "think" (or use as justification).
Sujan··on License Utopia
Here I would say that creating something new is different than selling or giving away something existing that someone else created.

> Surely such a claim would be thrown out in court and then all cases such after would be dismissed with prejudice, meaning the judicial example would already exist.

Afaik not all courts all over the world work that way, besides of course there being hundreds of courts with different rules that all would have to go through that at least once for a creator to be able to rely on that.

Probably: "We used that code, and it harmed us in some way (e.g. we had to give someone money for something). You wrote that code. It is your fault. You have to pay us that money now."

Sujan··on How we've attracted top talent to our early-stage bootstrapped startup
Hi there.

Honestly, not really. But maybe it just doesn't translate in my head, as "I'm a master with words and the numbers that drive them" alredy doesn't really make sense to me

Sujan··on How we've attracted top talent to our early-stage bootstrapped startup
> With some beer in her system, she’s a master with words and the numbers that drive them.

What does that mean? Does she have to be drunk to be able to work?

I have a shortcut on my desktop that toggles Real Time Protection:

Create a file `toggle-defender-real-time-protection.ps1` in a known location with the following content:

  $preferences = Get-MpPreference
  Set-MpPreference -DisableRealtimeMonitoring (!$preferences.DisableRealtimeMonitoring)
Then create a shortcut for this target:

  %SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File "toggle-defender-real-time-protection.ps1"
Make it run as Administrator.

(Source of this nice script: https://superuser.com/a/1287788/25933)

Note that Windows somehow turns the protection on after a random amount of time.
