Starlevel004··on Gemini 4 Argon
I'll consider it if they let me use a subscription with a custom harness, like Codex does. Until then, no thanks.
Starlevel004··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
> OpenAI models used to be the prototype for robotic text, but lately I've been finding them much more natural.

This was the biggest thing I noticed in the 6 models; their conversational prose is dramatically less grating.

Starlevel004··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Okay, now price cut 6 Sol (and rename it to Terra again).
Starlevel004··on Improving site performance by shipping more CSS
Perhaps we should never ever use hashed class names?
Starlevel004··on Fable 5 – Median thinking declined in August
I'm fairly sure it's just luck of the draw if you get put onto a quant'd model or not. I've seen luna xhigh change intelligence fairly drastically on a day to day basis.
Starlevel004··on Performance Improvements in .NET 11
Assembly is honestly very easy to learn, especially ARM assembly, for the basics (even if whole-program assembly is still difficult). In the worst case, you end up learning something interesting.
Starlevel004··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
> On top of my on-going battle with Windows + Firefox + DNS/TLS resolution sometimes stalling for seconds at a time,

Have you tried disabling HTTP/2?

Starlevel004··on Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
I think ultimately 90% of the time, Luna XHigh is basically as good as you need, as long as you're willing to step in occasionally before it creates an architectural disaster.
Starlevel004··on ChatGPT Images 2.5
[flagged]
Starlevel004··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
> I don't get why everyone reaches for an extraordinary explanation when the ordinary will do: both of these companies have quite a bit of downtime.

And not only that, when one goes down a bunch of API traffic switches over to the other, spiking demand and knocking it down.

Starlevel004··on Timeline of the OpenAI accidental attack against Hugging Face
Unplug the ethernet cable leading to the outside world, then?
Starlevel004··on Just because a game is on disc doesn't mean it will work in the future
How did it get banned? Presumably it has a modchip inside which means that getting updates from alternative sources is still viable.
Starlevel004··on Elixir-lang.org has a new design
Why does it have like 0.1s animations?
Starlevel004··on Leaking YouTube creators' private videos
When the entire post is staccato sentences it's very easy to tell.
Starlevel004··on Bootimus – A Self-Contained PXE and HTTP Boot Server
It's the staccato sentences
Starlevel004··on A robot is sprinting towards you. Do you want it running on Claude or Grok?
Megafauna did not have steel skin and could bleed
Starlevel004··on Meta's ships facial recognition on smart glasses
Luckily they don't come with a built-in fist filter.
Starlevel004··on Taking a walk may lead to more creativity than sitting, study finds (2014)
If they made a shower you could walk in, every single problem facing humanity would be solved in three weeks.
Starlevel004··on Iliad fragment found in Roman-era mummy
They were actually eaten (in the early modern era) or ground up for paint.
Starlevel004··on Servo is now available on crates.io
The standard library has a whole bunch of tools to let them test and evolve APIs with a required-opt in, but every single ecosystem package has to get it right first try because Cargo will silently forcibly update packages and those evolution tools aren't available to third party packages.

Such a stupid state of affairs.

Starlevel004··on Binary obfuscation that doesn't kill LTO
Security through obscurity is an excellent first-line defense, as long as you have other real defenses at the next layer.
Starlevel004··on AI overly affirms users asking for personal advice
I think more people should take AI advice for personal problems, and especially for medical issues. This would solve a lot of problems in society fairly quickly.
Starlevel004··on The gold standard of optimization: A look under the hood of RollerCoaster Tycoon
The old system was nonfunctional and any base that used lots of fluids (like modded ones, or new space age ones) were constantly running up against nonsensical mechanics.
Starlevel004··on My “grand vision” for Rust
Rust is also design-by-committee.
Starlevel004··on The most-seen UI on the internet? Redesigning turnstile and challenge pages
"Not just X -- it's Y" is one of the more irritatingly common signs, especially for sentences like that one which absolutely do not need it.

The Wikipedia article on detecting AI writing is a big help if you need to calibrate your sensors: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Signs_of_AI_writing

Starlevel004··on The most-seen UI on the internet? Redesigning turnstile and challenge pages
> Designing a product with billions of eyeballs on it isn't just challenging — it requires a fundamentally different approach.

I'm not reading this.

Starlevel004··on Gentoo on Codeberg
Person who pays for AI: We should make everything revolve around the thing I pay for
Starlevel004··on I fixed Windows native development
Real humans don't speak in LinkedIn Standard English
Starlevel004··on ai;dr
I laugh every time somebody qualifies their anti-AI comments with "Actually I really like AI, I use it for everything else". The problem is bad, but the cause of the problem (and especially paying for the cause of the problem)? That's good!
Starlevel004··on Discord/Twitch/Snapchat age verification bypass
> I've heard, but haven't confirmed, they also detect you opening developer tools using various methods and remove your auth keys from localstorage while you have it open to make account takeovers harder. (but not impossible)

You can open the network tab, click an API requesst, and copy the token from the Authorization header.
