Sr_developer··on Why I no longer contribute to Racket
I guess I agree, with the caveat that this applies to white middle-class Americans.Otherwise those VC/lawyers are not even on the top half of "dificult people" you can face on earth.
Sr_developer··on Why I no longer contribute to Racket
Just 2 comments.

Life has taught me that no matter how noble, pure, well-intended or just a cause is you will find exactly the same interpersonal dynamics that you will find in most organizations, including many despicable ones. Our extremely thin varnish of civilization is not strong enough to stop millions of years of evolution fine-tuning us to be hierarchical tribal apes living in small groups.Remember that every time you join a movement, you will have to deal with the same bullshit than in everywhere else.

The second one, quoting the author: ". I’ve navigated plenty of difficult people—LA lawyers, SF venture capitalists, et al." I would say that the author must have experienced a very narrow window of human types if those are the examples he came up with. I just found it funny, no need to make a drama about it.

Sr_developer··on Six charged in Silicon Valley insider trading ring
1 MM earned in an inside trading? That should be in the position number 2340 in last year alone. Glad to see the SEC has their priorities straight.
Sr_developer··on If you think psychological science is bad, imagine how bad it was in 1999
There is a cottage industry of what you may call,if you feel uncharitable, bullshit peddlers:

Simon Sinek

Cal Newport

Charles Duhigg

Mark Manson

Ryan Hollyday

Malcolm Gladwell

The list is endless to be honest, they are each different on their own way but they have the following common points:

- They are on this for the money, so expect them to be always pushing their books, products, next book, next tour, next program.Hustling, hustling, hustling.

- Their grandiose pronouncements with little or not serious backing.

- Their unwarranted sense of speaking from a position of authority

- The over-simplication and stupid generalization of what it is messy, complex and very much unique.

Wait arent you willing to put your health on the hands of the people who brought us Theranos, pets.com, and a DRM-laden juice-squeezer?

Sr_developer··on Google Workspace for everyone
Remove one thing or two and this looks like the script of an Apple computer ad in 1985. Google is an Ad monopoly with a searcher tacked on, and many short-lived projects created to justify the promotions and roles of their overqualified work force. Although judging by examples like this one, I dont think all of them are over-qualified,
Sr_developer··on Only 6 of the 50 largest companies are in Europe. LVMH is highest at #18
Exactly, and to those "protected companies" you should add

The Federal reserve

The World-Bank

The IMF and in general all the Bretton-Woods establishment designed and operated to ensure US economic supremacy. It is just not "those silly old-fashioned Europeans" playing the protectionism game.

No trabajo de gratis para multinacionales cuiquito. Tu credencialismo barato y sobrador lo puedes archivar donde mas te convenga. No se si es la respuesta que estabas esperando.

Are you going to pay me? If not, good luck!

This is a little Big_Brother-esque for my taste.

That is assuming the translation is of high quality and sadly that is not always the case. I am a native Spanish speaker and for the life of me I cannot understand most of the "Spanish Version" technical pages I read.
Sr_developer··on Ask HN: Are Certifications Useful in Infosec?
The consensus among my friends is that experience, relevant projects and especially a contact network are extremely more valuable. So,ideally you better spend your time, money and effort on those.
Sr_developer··on I Miss the Old Internet (2019)
I miss web directories, like old Yahoo or Altavista. Does anyone still use or miss those ones?
Sr_developer··on Git for Computer Scientists (2010)
For me almost every Git teaching resource has gone like this:

Step 1.It is explained that Git is a simple program, and that the underlined idea can be understood easily, it is only that other materials have done a bad job about it.

Step 2. Tell the reader a blob is just the byte object containing the information you are source-controlling. "See how easy it is?"

Step 3. Invent their own nomenclature/diagrams/metaphors for all the other concepts, totally muddling the waters.

Step 4. Become one of the resources criticized on Step 1.

Sr_developer··on Tell HN: I curate HN stories which didn't reach the front page
I like it, but it is so much information that you it would be cool to have a systematic way to archive it and search it.
