The song actually refers to a kind of candy named "Mistral gagnant"

On the contrary, I quite like how it's a very elaborate and useful ad. The link to the paid service is very discreet and the website provides real and free educational value even if you don't use their service.
Spone··on Hurl: Run and test HTTP requests with plain text
Can you elaborate on Rails' snapshot testing? Are you talking about VCR / webmock?
Spone··on Show HN: Shale – a Ruby object mapper and serializer for JSON, YAML and XML
Nice library with a very approachable documentation, congrats!

I'll probably give it a go to replace my current implementation using nokogiri-happymapper (https://github.com/mvz/happymapper)

Spone··on Mailgun doesn't validate the email headers of email sent through their system
Their customer support is really top-notch!
Spone··on You either die an MVP or live long enough to build content moderation
This is usually called a "honey pot" if some people want to search tools for implementing it.

I suggest you read Larry Lessig's Code 2.0 book.

Of course because you need to be authenticated to contribute to OSM...

Spone··on Ask HN: Good tech talks on how analytics systems are implemented?
Ahoy https://github.com/ankane/ahoy is an interesting tool that we use to replace Google Analytics in most projects now.

It covers all the basic needs, and even if you're not using Rails, I think you can draw inspiration from it!

Spone··on Rules for Autocomplete
I think your referring to auto-correct, rather than "autocomplete".
Spone··on W3C approves WebAuthn as the web standard for password-free logins
https://webauthn.guide is a quite good overview of the spec
Spone··on The rationale behind password policies
Huh. I hadn't really thought about malicious actors using these vast password dumps to try and target users that are continually using weak passwords.
Spone··on Show HN: I made a privacy-first minimalist Google Analytics
Ahoy is a great tool to do just that, if you use Ruby on Rails: https://github.com/ankane/ahoy
Spone··on The Origin of Stimulus JavaScript Framework
Yes, it's well documented and pretty easy-to-learn, prevents you from reinventing the wheel, and provides simple conventions for your team :)
Spone··on Firefox is back. It's time to give it a try
> The open source statement isn’t accurate because Chromium is open source.

But Firefox is free software :)

Spone··on Archiving your website in the Wayback Machine
Perfect use case for self-hosted analytics, such as https://usefathom.com
Spone··on Yubico and Microsoft Introduce Passwordless Login
It already works in Firefox (behind a flag), but sadly some websites explicitly target Chrome...

See the end of the blog post:

> All VC1 users can upgrade to Start servers without any price change.

> To upgrade your existing VC1 server, simply do a power off and a power on your server. Your server will start on a Next-Gen Start Hypervisor with increased performances and for the same price as before. You may already be running on a new hypervisor if you created your server recently. New hypervisors are powered by Intel Denverton CPUs instead of Avoton.

Spone··on Ask HN: Where do you deploy to in 2018 and how?
I also use Hatchbox. It's a pretty good (and cheaper) alternative to Heroku, and you can own the VPS with your provider of choice!
Spone··on Ask HN: What's the recommended method of adding authentication to a REST API?
Downside is that this is very new and there is only a PHP library.

Main reason for me is performance. Especially important on a mid-range smartphone with sloppy network.
