SpliffnCola··on A.I. And Big Data Could Power a New War on Poverty?
I posted this above to another comment:

My mother cheated on my father and he left her because of that.

He was required (by Texas law) to pay child-support to my mother up until we were 18 (I am 29) to my mother who cheated on him; he still owes back pay on that and refuses to pay until they put a warrant out for his arrest.

My mother demonized him to us by crying about not knowing why he left her; she never once mentioned until 5 months ago that she cheated on him.

Dad regrets leaving us (his kids, not my mother) because it put a rift between us. We never knew the truth until recently when my mom let it slip in a conversation.

At this point I feel like he has been punished enough by the state of Texas for leaving my cheating mother.

Recently my eldest brother had a girl and my father has been in her life as much as he can and I'm incredibly happy for that (not jealous one bit) because at least my niece will have something my brother and I never had because he was soured by her behavior.

We grew up poor because of my mother's infidelity...

SpliffnCola··on The Failed War on Drugs
Murdering the drug abusing population would be frowned upon by anyone with a sense of morality.

You're absolutely correct though that it would be a "final solution" in the "War on Drugs" but implementing it would face a horrendous backlash; although there are quite a few of the population who would support it.

I would consider anyone who is ok with murdering citizens who take drugs as completely out of connection with the reality of drug use/abuse.

Sure and that's incredibly useful for event and documentary film making.

When it comes to cinema _movies_ (while it's true the EOS C300 Mark II has dual pixel AF) there will be a focus puller.

Relying on AF will end up biting your ass on a film set. Auto-focus doesn't know about the aesthetic of the film, only that something (a face) is in focus.

On (movie) sets the cinematographer will be making those decisions, not AF; while it does, "...[enable] the user to see if they are focused in front of or behind the subject through visual observation, [allowing] quick and accurate manual focus to be achieved" it should only be used in movie making as a tool and not a crutch.

You're technically correct on the existence of AF in the C300 MII.

Edit: Cine cameras are beginning to delve into AF but it is not replacing a focus puller anytime soon.

Thanks for the correction. That aspect slipped my mind.

Agreed on all points. Due to the modular design, and I'm assuming here, it seems wireless (and on camera) focus pulling could be added onto the cam.

Something like http://www.rtmotion.com/lens-control-system or https://cinegears.com/product/cinegears-single-axis-wireless...

Not sure about aperture adjustment from the cam body itself; usually, not always though, cine lenses are constant aperture primes or zooms.

If you are wondering who the target audience this cine camera is for then you are not the target audience.

To those asking why it doesn't have AF: no cine camera has AF.

In regards to lens selection; the camera seems to be modular so there shouldn't be much stopping Axiom or yourself from getting a different lens mounting plate.

SpliffnCola··on Firefox is on a slippery slope
On the "About SHIELD Studies" page it says:

"SHIELD studies let you try out different features and ideas before they are released to all Firefox users. Using your feedback, we can make more informed decisions based on what you actually need."

This wasn't a feature and it wasn't an idea to be released to all Firefox users.

It was an ad placement for the Mr. Robot show; that seems to be the crux of the issue.

They abused a channel meant to improve Firefox and test new features and in doing so violated the trust of the users.

I didn't have this installed because I disable all telemetry however it doesn't take away from the bad taste of Mozilla's actions.

You're absolutely correct on the video editing front.

The ability to work on full res 4k/8k video (in realtime) without generating down-scaled proxies will be a huge time-saver for editors in addition to saving money during post.

>"I don’t see how this is any more insidious than the ‘no internet’ dinosaur jumping game built in to chrome."

You don't see the difference between a built-in game (included in the installation of Chrome) vs. Mozilla pushing an add-on to a Firefox installation using a channel meant for helping to improve the browser?

"Automatic update" implies updating of an _already_ installed add-on/program.

This was not an automatic update, it was an installation.

SpliffnCola··on Safer to Puff, E-Cigarettes Can’t Shake Their Reputation as a Menace
You're welcome! I live "near" Austin in that I live in Red Rock (no no not Round Rock).

Vaping is something I do A LOT of while post-processing photos! Do you perhaps have a photographic interest?

SpliffnCola··on Safer to Puff, E-Cigarettes Can’t Shake Their Reputation as a Menace
Hah yeah I agree it's absurd! However I enjoy vaping and it helps to calm anxiety that I get from my bipolar.

I should try and cut back some and reduce my nicotine dosage of 1.5mg down to 0mg but I don't mind the nicotine.

I'm also addicted to coffee so about 2-3 full Yeti cups a day. Woe is me!

I highly recommend Vapejoose, they have 120ml bottles for $23.99, sometimes $20, and they offer free shipping over $50.

Three 120ml bottles last me close to an entire month. Local stores around here are also a rip-off (near Austin, Texas).
