SpaghettiCthulu··on Erlang's not about lightweight processes and message passing (2023)
Maybe their idea is that you can have a thread that processes work from a queue and catch any exceptions thrown during that processing and just continue processing other work.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Everyone knows all the apps on your phone
Can you inject into an elevated process from a non-elevated one?
SpaghettiCthulu··on Zig's dot star syntax (value.*)
Yes
SpaghettiCthulu··on Show HN: I built a modern Goodreads alternative
Well, they use Supabase for auth. Perhaps there's other integration there.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Multiple Russia-aligned threat actors actively targeting Signal Messenger
An in-app notification along the bottom of your screen. Usually just some text on a dark grey or black background.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Why is there a screen that says "It is now safe to turn off your computer"? (2016)
That url just gives me "Bad request."
SpaghettiCthulu··on Don't "optimize" conditional moves in shaders with mix()+step()
> A lot of our options do change how shaders work though, like forcing a shader to use double precision floats instead of the single it was compiled with.

What benefit would that give? Is double precision faster than single on modern hardware?

SpaghettiCthulu··on The Deck: An open-source cross-platform multiplayer card game engine in Flutter
On the topic of databases, I think https://drift.simonbinder.eu/ might interest you. I've been using it in a Flutter app with SQLite, but my understanding is that you could use it on the server too. I recall them having support for at least SQLite and Postgres.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Instagram tests Reels pause feature as TikTok remains in limbo
I've only been able to pause by tapping and holding on the screen. And that only pauses while you keep holding. Also, for me, most reels have a progress bar you can drag around at the bottom, but there are some that just don't for whatever reason.
SpaghettiCthulu··on We're bringing Pebble back
I'm curious, where do you live where that happens? I've heard similar complaints from fellow Canadians online, but it has never been an issue for me.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Trusting clients is probably a security flaw
Afaik all apps on android have the ability to list directories across most of the "sdcard" file system even without storage permissions.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Our Paint is a featureless but programmable painting program
Trying to read this on my phone is a headache. Sentences are wrapping mid-word.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Facebook deletes internal employee criticism of new board member Dana White
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dana_White#Altercation_with_...

> During a 2022 New Year's Eve party at a nightclub in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, White and his wife Anne were filmed arguing and then getting into a physical altercation with each other. Anne slapped White and White responded by slapping her in return. They both apologized for their actions, and said they had consumed too much alcohol that night.

SpaghettiCthulu··on Pornhub pulls out of Florida, VPN demand 'surges 1150%'
And some don't even require you to log in. For example, Proton VPN has a completely free and anonymous tier.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Documenting an 1115 ft radio tower climb
Because then you need a 1115 ft stretch of flat ground to lay it on?
SpaghettiCthulu··on Arnis: Generate cities in Minecraft from OpenStreetMap
It uses Tauri. It would probably just work if you compiled it yourself on macOS.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Breaking NATO Radio Encryption [video]
Sounds like this isn't anything new? The cited papers are from 2021, 2022, and 2023.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Grayjay Desktop App
Ah, right. Good point!
SpaghettiCthulu··on Grayjay Desktop App
Definitely a false positive
SpaghettiCthulu··on Grayjay Desktop App
You should be using `~/.local/share`, `~/.config`, and other standard directories on Unix systems. macOS has its own conventions.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Should programming languages be safe or powerful?
Yes, Zig has excellent C interop.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Java 24 to Reduce Object Header Size and Save Memory
The default `toString` implementation isn't cached, is it?
SpaghettiCthulu··on Hacking Kia: Remotely controlling cars with just a license plate
Too bad the only thing our current government can think to do is ban the FlipperZero.
SpaghettiCthulu··on YouTube Premium is getting a big price hike internationally
Because YouTube Music exists
SpaghettiCthulu··on Israel’s Pager Attacks Have Changed the World
Couldn't the attacker include a geofence to mostly mitigate that threat?
SpaghettiCthulu··on Chrome is entrenching third-party cookies that will mislead users
> FWIW, it's practically impossible to provide that guarantee because the API necessarily provides at least the data point of, "Did they select an option in the permission notification?" ("If yes, what option was selected?" etc.)

Wrong. The status of permissions should not be visible to the page in most cases. Instead, fake data should be returned from them. That would be practical.

SpaghettiCthulu··on Zed AI
I find the only "AI" I need is really just "Intellisense". Just auto complete repetitive lines or symbol names intelligently, and that doesn't even require an AI model.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Appeals court finds California’s “Age Appropriate Design Code” unconstitutional
Parents are failing kids. Not the government. Not big tech companies.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Does Reasoning Emerge? Probabilities of Causation in Large Language Models
You are 100% wrong.
SpaghettiCthulu··on Apple open-sources its Homomorphic Encryption library
You cannot know the result without having the encryption key for the original message, so I don't think there is any privacy risk here.
