SouravInsights··on Ask HN: Where can a solo dev still find a moat in LLM inference?
By moat I just mean something a solo dev can build/pursue that doesn't get absorbed by vLLM/SGLang in few months. I'm fairly new to this space so not trying to get too deep into kernels or hardware.

Something around inference tooling: benchmarking or eval/regression checks for quantized models or something else. Something that's useful as a standalone tool/project or to learn the space properly. Just curious where there's still some opportunities.

Sorry but I'm not sure what you are trying to communicate with this analogy?
SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
gold standard!
SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
Fair point but for me the kid part was never really about being offline, it was more about having no audience. I'm saying we need to go back to how we felt when we did things just for ourselves, with no nody watching. And I feel kids today need adults to leave some room for it.
SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
Not yet but the suggestion below is the strongest signal. Plus "typos" as someone mentioned earlier in this thread, could be a signal to authenticity lol
SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
You have actually observed something interesting here because authenticity is how we decide who to trust. Effort and voice used to be cheap signals of a real person now llms can fake pretty much both, so I'm having to work harder to know who is on the other end.
SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
Because authenticity matters today even more so. A simple observation, imagine this post was purely generated/optimized by llm, it wouldn't have gotten people discussing about it. Cause it's easy for smart people to quickly notice the slop and the tone. You definitely have noticed that llms don't seem to have strong opinions, it always tries to be politically correct and that's easy to spot. But having strong opinions itself isn't necessarily a sign of authenticity though. As "itsalwaysgood" put it, authenticity forces people to think through what they want to communicate so it works as a friction for good writing and drives genuine engagement. I mean who would love the idea of talking/arguing with a bot.

When I'm talking to a person irl or even chatting online I would find it very weird if the the person is always conforming to me and rarely brings up a new genuine insight or a contrary thought to add to the discussion. I'm not looking for a debate always though, sometimes just listening to someone is enough. But I hope you understand what I mean here.

SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
this is such a spicy thought worth overthinking lol
SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
No, I think I don't need to do such cheap stunts to back the authenticity of this post.
SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
I guess it's much of a bad habbit/influence of using auto-suggestions in my mobile keyboard than a typo I agree..
SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
Yeah I agree that direct experience is definitely a pretty good counterweight. You can definitely discover something completely on your own and genuinely like it, without ever seeing anyone else validate it.

But yeah I wasn't stressing much on this specific idea/notion in my post though.

SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
I don't think the victims here are simply people inside appartments doom-scrolling. Also, having real experiences, going outdoors, talking to people doesn't necessarily make someone immune from being shaped or influenced unconciously. It's even tough if the influence happens irl cause you don't necessarily recognise it as influence since it comes from the close people you trust. But I don't know maybe I can sort of agree it gives you a healthier mix of both.
SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
I don't think authenticity is necessarily a Western value.. In India or Hindusim we have a term called "Swadharma" - basically means an individual's unique personality or moral obligations that aligns with their inner nature/self. The old notion here is "better to follow your own path than someone else's".

But when I say "be authentic" I don't necessarily mean about finding a hidden real you. It's a very difficult quest anyway but I think we can start with spotting where we're performing for an audience.

Anyway, I started this post with a very simple surface level observation but now it's getting a little deep haha

SouravInsights··on We are unconsciously becoming someone else
Aagree. I mean we can't avoid being influenced or be afraid of learning new things. That's impossible anyway.

I think what I'm getting at is being a little more conscious of what we're consuming and how much of our preferences/behaviour we're adopting unconsciously.

SouravInsights··on Ask HN: How do solid products get noticed once the launch hype is gone?
I'm in a similar phase and this question resonates.

One thing I’m slowly realizing: after launch, distribution becomes a separate craft from building. The product can be good, but if no natural channel exists where your users already hang out, growth feels silent.

Curious if others found that identifying a repeatable distribution channel mattered more than polishing the product at this stage.

SouravInsights··on Cloudflare Email Service: private beta
I just signed up for the early access!

So far I have used Resend, Sendgrid, Loops (for a person throw away project so don't have good exposure) but I found Resend the most easiest, convenient and straightforward. Especially their React Email library made it so easier to compose emails using React components. I really love that. Back then we had to manually craft HTML emails, worry about inline styles, and constantly test across different clients, which was a pretty painful process compared to how smooth it is now with React Emails.

One key part of my workflow is validating emails before sending so I'm not blowing up my bills or getting labelled as spam. And since Resend doesn’t support that natively, I'm currently having to use Emailable’s API to check if addresses are actually deliverable. Having that built-in would be a huge plus. And I know it's not usually something that email providers should care about but it would be so much better if Cloudflare makes this a native offering.

SouravInsights··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2025)
i read a lot of your articles, will try this for sure..
SouravInsights··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2025)
cool app!! will be super cool if I can share some of my stats with people, similar to Spotify Wrapped
SouravInsights··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2025)
working on this new open source form builder: https://github.com/SouravInsights/fairforms

this week, thinking of adding a new feature where users can create forms just with prompts..

SouravInsights··on Ask HN: How would you build a dev/design agency in 2025 alongside AI?
Great insights so far. I'd also love to dig deeper into the early days: What did your first 3-6 months look like? Especially curious about strategies beyond referrals - how did you directly find and land your first clients before having a strong portfolio?
SouravInsights··on Show HN: A Valentine's Day experience for people who aren't celebrating
Hey, appreciate the detailed feedback! But honestly, this was just a silly little page I put together in a few hours for fun. Wasn't trying to solve any problems - just wanted to make some people laugh with dumb jokes and memes on Valentine's Day And you're right - I was trying so hard to be universally relatable but it might have become generic.

Cool ideas about what it could be! But you know how sometimes you just want to make something goofy without a deeper meaning? That's all this was.

And yeah fair point about the location stuff - definitely could've handled that better with Cloudflare!

SouravInsights··on Show HN: A Valentine's Day experience for people who aren't celebrating
Haha, funny! But no, I'm not trying to harvest anything I promise.. I'm realising now that I over-engineered.
SouravInsights··on Show HN: A Valentine's Day experience for people who aren't celebrating
Thanks for the word.. I have tried to explain my intention in my other replies.. Sorry if it was frustrating..
SouravInsights··on Show HN: A Valentine's Day experience for people who aren't celebrating
Haha, you are right!
SouravInsights··on Show HN: A Valentine's Day experience for people who aren't celebrating
Now this is getting slightly frustrating.. I have been tried to explain my original intention in the other replies, so I don't know why people are still bringing this up. Please refer: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43049817#43050394

(sorry if this sounds rude)

SouravInsights··on Show HN: A Valentine's Day experience for people who aren't celebrating
yep, I just realized that. Mentioned it here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43049817#43050201 I think I over-engineered!
SouravInsights··on Show HN: A Valentine's Day experience for people who aren't celebrating
Ahh, right! I could've used IP geolocation to get all the info I needed, without that intrusive location request. It would've been a much better experience and a lot simpler to implement for me as well. Thanks for pointing this out - definitely a learning moment for me! :-)
SouravInsights··on Show HN: A Valentine's Day experience for people who aren't celebrating
Thanks for the feedback. I can totally relate to this frustration, even I personally would be frustrated if a site is asking for location for no fugin reasons.. But as you can see in the above reply, I have tried to explain my original intention. Sorry if this was frustrating..
