SomeCollegeBro··on CryEngine out on GitHub
The only reason I have seen it done (and done it myself) is to avoid having to link to a library, so you put the implementation in the header of that library. No idea if that's the case here though.
SomeCollegeBro··on Advanced Economies Must Still Make Things
I agree. I write software for CNC machines, mostly sensor monitoring as well as tool lifetime and offset data exchanging. Most of our customers order our software for precision as well as to reduce human error.
SomeCollegeBro··on WxWidgets 3.1.0 Brings Better HiDPI Support, WxQt with Qt5
Just getting done with a pretty significant realtime plotting app using CMake, Qt 5.5 and QWT. I have to say, it's been a mostly painless, pretty pleasurable experience. The Stylesheets CAN be a huge pain though. If you get a good and organized architecture down, it is by far the best method to style a desktop app I've ever used. Especially if you utilize QObject properties!
SomeCollegeBro··on Can the blockchain make Uber, Spotify and Airbnb obsolete?
Came here to say basically this, but want to add one thing: they also don't talk about reputation and management of that reputation. In order words, you wouldn't take an Uber ride with someone that has 1/5 star rating. How would the blockchain deliver this info to the user in a concise, readable way?

Seems like the author does not realize that higher abstractions don't always make a solution better.

SomeCollegeBro··on Best practices for a new Go developer
I completely agree - the more I used it the less I liked it. I really enjoyed its implicit simplicity at first. The code I wrote had purpose and was clear, consice, and easy to understand. However, as the codebase grew larger I really ran into the issues more people talk about. Specifically lack of generics. I was using reflection to simulate this, however my performance was terrible on large sets of data. I had to end up relying on a code generator, which seems to be the direction Go is heading.

Edit: Package versioning was another pain point, as someone mentioned below. Their built in package manager is almost too simple. As with anything simple, it's great at first but not so great when more complexities arise.

I think you need a little bit more than a website to get a valuation...
SomeCollegeBro··on Ello Raises $5.5M, Legally Files as Public Benefit Corp.
Amazing to me that a site that is both hard on the eyes and not nearly as usable as its competitors has raised $5.5M. How do investors think they will make their money back? Simply by microtransactions and paid features? Perhaps the investors are that optimistic, and they think this is the future of social networking.
SomeCollegeBro··on Apple Accidentally reveals iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3
Actually, it's just called the Watch.

SomeCollegeBro··on Ask HN: Who started something in 2013/14 which is already profitable?
Just FYI, there's a typo on the homepage!

"Connect to Exmas"

SomeCollegeBro··on How to build a Bitcoin Wallet
Building static pages using a javscript framework seems to be the new thing. Doesn't really make sense to me - this page is hardly dynamic (as opposed to a single page app).
SomeCollegeBro··on Introducing the new PHP on Heroku
Symfony and the related components are awesome. I've used Silex at work a few times and it's honestly fun. When done right, PHP can be almost as good as any other Object Oriented language. Unfortunately, when done wrong, it can be much worse.
SomeCollegeBro··on Higher Education: Too many degrees are a waste of money.
"Too many degrees are a waste of money. The return on higher education would be much better if college were cheaper."

I find this highly ironic when my alma mater keeps raising the prices, yet this year they somehow had a $9.7 Million shortfall:

I simply don't understand where the vast amount of tuition money is going.
