Slimy··on India OKs censoring Facebook, Google, Microsoft, YouTube
Not really. Google gave up on censoring search results in China and simply moved its operations to Hong Kong (http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2010/02/googles-china-...).

China blocks websites that don't follow its rules. India is threatening to do something similar. From this article: "Like China, we too can block such websites," said Justice Suresh Kait.

Slimy··on Full Gameboy Color Emulator in Javascript
Very well done!

I'd love to see an analysis of how the different major browsers handle this emulator.

Slimy··on Why I Hate Android
Summary: MG says he doesn't give Android a fair chance when he compares it to the iPhone not because he loves Apple but because he hates Google.
Slimy··on Justin.tv Moves Domains from GoDaddy
It seems like the fact they no longer support SOPA doesn't matter: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3396634

GoDaddy screwed themselves and I'm not what they can do to recover. I don't know if they'll actually lose money over this, but PR-wise they're pretty screwed.

Slimy··on Looking back at 2011: ‘The year of the tablet’ falls flat
I think the tablet market will either be completely turned upside down when Windows 8 comes out, or iOS will just keep dominating. I hate to say it, but right now it looks like Android is only successful on phones, and it doesn't look like that is changing anytime soon. Come CES 2012 though, I may have to eat my own words.

Slimy··on Jacob E. Goldman, Founder of Xerox Lab, Dies at 90
This is bigger news than anyone else's death in quite a while, at least in my mind.
Slimy··on Why Hasn’t Safari Skyrocketed Like Chrome Has?
tl;dr

Safari sucks, especially on Windows.

Chrome rocks, especially on Windows.

Slimy··on Facebook threatens to sue man who changed his name to Mark Zuckerberg
Israeli entrepreneur Rotem Guez has legally changed his name to Mark Zuckerberg. It’s his latest response to a legal battle he’s fighting with the social networking giant over his Like Store.

I love articles like this. Opened in a tab and moved to the left for reading over the holidays.
Slimy··on Google easter egg. Search for 'Let it snow'
haha, I love how the search button turns to "Defrost" :P
Slimy··on Windows Live Messenger supports XMPP
I wonder if this is because Microsoft is becoming better and better at embracing open source when it sees a business advantage to do so, or if it's simply a last-ditch effort to keep Messenger alive as more and more people use it less frequently or not at all because the likes of smartphones, apps, and Facebook (Chat) are becoming more widely adopted.
Slimy··on [Django] Python 3 port - all tests now pass on 2.7.2 and 3.2.2
I'm one of the students from UofT that helped with this project. Basically, my group for one of our Software Engineering courses had the assignment of helping with this enormous task. We didn't finish (this was two years ago), but we did make a lot of progress (fixing bugs to get the tests to pass in both versions). It was one hell of a goal so it's great to see this finally done!

Slimy··on Facebook fixes logout issue
A Facebook engineer has made a statement saying there was not tracking involved in the "Update" section of this article: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/facebook/facebook-fixes-cookie-beh...
Slimy··on Facebook denies cookie tracking allegations
I don't believe Facebook is doing anything malicious, but it can never hurt to do a little investigation.
Slimy··on Chrome Privacy
I thought it was general knowledge that the closed-source Chrome sends (some) data back to Google while the open-source Chromium does not.

Disclosure: I use Chrome (default) and IE9 (whenever Chrome fails).

Slimy··on Michael Arrington: Editorial Independence
