Skywalker13··on A 32-year-old bug walks into a Telnet server
"rédiger" in french, then it's "write" instead of "redacting" I suppose.. sorry for my poor english
Skywalker13··on A 32-year-old bug walks into a Telnet server
Since AI is redacting, a lot of articles are long and boring to read with a lot of useless details.

Skywalker13··on Cruller: Bun's Zig Runtime, Continued on Zig 0.16
I don't understand why the git history has been pruned in this fork.

According to the first commit in this fork:

> Squashed as a single orphan commit — the original oven-sh/bun history isn't relevant to this stripped fork and its shallow clone doesn't push cleanly to a fresh remote.

IMHO it's always a bad decision to do that. Here, all commit authors are lost. The original history is always relevant.

Skywalker13··on For Linux kernel vulnerabilities, there is no heads-up to distributions
I don't know what exactly can load this module but the servers are running for many weeks and I suppose that if something will load this module, it stays loaded until the next reboot.. no ?

I tried to rmmod on all servers and rmmod always returns `ERROR: Module algif_aead is not currently loaded`, that's why I think it's fine. Of course I take a look on https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2026-31431 for the updates.

Skywalker13··on For Linux kernel vulnerabilities, there is no heads-up to distributions
I have checked all the servers (bookworm, bullseye) that I manage, and none of them have the algif_aead module loaded.

Seems not fatal to all non-patched systems.

Skywalker13··on Help Keep Thunderbird Alive
I just check something because my memory as faults... Firebird was the name of Firefox and the mail client was called something like Mozilla mail or something else.
Skywalker13··on Help Keep Thunderbird Alive
I use Thunderbird from the beginning when it was still named Firebird (I switched from Outlook Express). I think that it's a good product because it continues to do the job since more than 20 years. Me too I don't understand the negative comments. It's free (MPL license), it's packaged by Debian. All good. I don't care about Mozilla.

ridiculous...

Why this entry is in the top 30?

Skywalker13··on A decade of Docker containers
Oh, thank you... I'm not alone... I'm so tired of seeing crappy containers with pseudo service management handled by Dockerfiles, used instead of proper and serious packaging like that of many venerable Linux distributions.
Skywalker13··on Anthropic acquires Bun
Hello, thank you, but that doesn't answer my question. I'm not asking for a definition, but for information about licensing decisions for the future of Bun.
Skywalker13··on Anthropic acquires Bun
Hi Jarred,

I contributed to Bun one time for SQLite. I've a question about the licensing. Will each contributor continue to retain their copyright, or will a CLA be introduced?

Thanks

Skywalker13··on Trump-lang / The only programming language that puts America First
trump-lang is a totally stable genius programming language made for developers who don’t like to wait, think twice, or read error messages.

Designed with rapid decision-making, alternative logic, and absolutely no regard for international standards — it’s the only language endorsed by billionaires who don’t code.

Skywalker13··on What the hell is a target triple?
It is unfortunate. GCC has enabled the compilation of countless lines of source code for nearly 40 years and has served millions of users. Regardless of whether its design is considered good or bad today, GCC has played an essential role and has enabled the emergence of many projects and new compilers. GCC deserves deep respect.

Skywalker13··on Last Windows 11 update changed all default browser settings to Edge
> How do you deal with Microsoft's crap on a daily basis?

I'm still using Windows 7 for specific Visual Studio 2019 developments where I must code. Most of times I'm under Debian.

For Windows specific build-only machine I use the free Hyper-V Server installation with OpenSSH installed via powershell and Add-WindowsCapability. I'ts one of the best Windows IMHO because there is nothing installed.

Skywalker13··on The future of my games on Apple and what this means for art games
Thanks I found more details here: https://www.fsf.org/blogs/licensing/more-about-the-app-store...
Skywalker13··on The future of my games on Apple and what this means for art games
I've a certificate whish is valid until 2022 (valid for 5 years) (generated in 2017 after paied 100$). I distribute only free games (GPLv3) that I sign with this certificate. For Catalina, I can't notarize because I don't pay each year (my certificate is valid then it's useless to pay and I distribute only free softwares)... But I'm fucked by Apple for the notarization.

It's too expansive to pay just to distribute games that will be even refused probably on the app store because it's GPL.

Apple is just killing freedom and continue to take advantage of free softwares (free developers) on BSD, mach kernel, a lot of unix tools... even on projects started by Apple like LLVM Apple takes all advantages of all third contributions.
