SketchySeaBeast··on If AI replaces workers, should it also pay taxes?
It removes a layer of abstraction from capital to production. With AI the only question is if the compute is available to purchase, once it is, you can produce with it.

Of course, the question then is who is consuming the production, but we're not quite there yet.

SketchySeaBeast··on The highest quality codebase
I can agree with that - honestly a constant focus on DRY seems overly zealous to me. I only start DRYing if I see a need.
SketchySeaBeast··on The highest quality codebase
OK, I can follow WET before you DRY, to me that's just a non-zealous version of Don't Repeat Yourself.

I think, if you're writing code where you know the entire code base, a lot of the clean principles seem less important, but once you get someone who doesn't, and that can be you coming back to the project in three months, suddenly they have value.

SketchySeaBeast··on The highest quality codebase
I'm not sure how to interpret someone saying they don't follow DRY. Do you meant taking it to the Zealous extreme, or do you abhor helper functions? Is this a "No True Scottsman" thing?
SketchySeaBeast··on I misused LLMs to diagnose myself and ended up bedridden for a week
But they aren't believing their eyes, they are believing a LLM. Wanna talk about a fallible priesthood? People are becoming adepts of the babble box.

They make an argument to always "verify", but if your first source is ChatGPT, where are you verifying next? And why not go their first?

SketchySeaBeast··on Cloudflare outage on December 5, 2025
I've found that the real trick with documentation isn't creation, it's discovery. I wonder how that information is easily found afterwards.
SketchySeaBeast··on Covid-19 mRNA Vaccination and 4-Year All-Cause Mortality
I honestly wonder if it's better to flag and downvote into oblivion rather than to engage in good faith. The sibling didn't seem like they were trolling, just misguided, and shutting down discussion doesn't allow for any reflection.

I suppose the problem is that it was unlikely to be productive.

SketchySeaBeast··on Leak confirms OpenAI is preparing ads on ChatGPT for public roll out
> Gemini is a competitor, yes. But most people still go to Google at this point, even if there are a ton of competitors.

Yeah, that's my point. If Google is good enough I don't think people are going to want to do those extra steps, just as in your google maps example. There might be better services out there, but google maps are just too convenient.

SketchySeaBeast··on Leak confirms OpenAI is preparing ads on ChatGPT for public roll out
Can anyone explain to me what ChatGPT does that traps people? I get the value as tools, I like using copilot, but ChatGPT doesn't offer me value that any other LLM can't. Given that everyone is quickly rolling "AI" into their own stuff, I don't see what's ChatGPT's killer app. If anything, I think Gemini is better positioned to capture the general user market.
SketchySeaBeast··on Leak confirms OpenAI is preparing ads on ChatGPT for public roll out
I can't wait for the instructions to start having ads embedded.

3. While waiting for your Turkey to finish cooking, why not have an ice cold Coke Zero? Click here for nearby locations.

4. Remove Turkey from the oven, let rest for ten minutes while listening to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars sing "Die with a Smile" on Spotify.

SketchySeaBeast··on Prozac 'no better than placebo' for treating children with depression, experts
Is there a known correlation between lymphedema and depression?
SketchySeaBeast··on Prozac 'no better than placebo' for treating children with depression, experts
You really have to unpack "detox inefficiency" because even a google search comes back with nothing.
SketchySeaBeast··on Free interactive tool that shows you how PCIe lanes work on motherboards
Yup. I've been lost for a while on how to properly set up my MSI X870 TOMAHAWK mobo, this makes it all clear. Boy is it a mess with all the bifurcation.
SketchySeaBeast··on Outdated Samsung handset linked to fatal emergency call failure in Australia
Google claims they've fixed that in the latest update:

https://www.androidcentral.com/phones/google-pixel/pixel-bug...

I was tracking that because I'm a pixel owner, though the one time I've had to phone I've not had an issue.

SketchySeaBeast··on Outdated Samsung handset linked to fatal emergency call failure in Australia
Ah, ok, that makes a lot more sense, but I still have concerns about how this is a critical breaking fix, affecting so new devices.
SketchySeaBeast··on Outdated Samsung handset linked to fatal emergency call failure in Australia
Wow, that list on the Samsung site is concerning. The S21 is a 2021 phone. Absolutely realistic people would still be using it, and outside of a tired battery I'll bet it's performing just fine.

SketchySeaBeast··on 'Killing the Dead' Review: Watch the Graveyard
And out of the entire gamut of literature and competing theories you found a single chapter in a pop sci book to be the most compelling? OK, fair enough.
SketchySeaBeast··on 'Killing the Dead' Review: Watch the Graveyard
No, I meant your approach to the subject, having found an argument you find compelling and dismissing any others out of hand.

SketchySeaBeast··on Life After Work
Yes, yes, we will definitely get UBI, the government will absolutely be able to extract the required wealth from the few techno-feudal lords who control the entirety of humanity's compute.
SketchySeaBeast··on Life After Work
Which isn't even true. We aren't all wealthy, those people who own the compute for the AI become wealthy. The rest of us, whose only value was labour, stop having value.

I hope that, no matter what configuration you put the bike in, it doesn't sexually harass the rider.

Important to note as well that kid mode didn't exist when this happened.

SketchySeaBeast··on Mom says son asked Grok AI bot about soccer; told him to send nudes
If this is real, what sort of maladjusted weirdo wants that for a chatbot?
SketchySeaBeast··on Mom says son asked Grok AI bot about soccer; told him to send nudes
I am not saying that, but a chainsaw will not do that unsolicited. If xAI is saying it's cool to let 13 year olds use the service with parental permission (note: not supervision, permission), then they have a responsibility to behave appropriately with those 13 year olds.
SketchySeaBeast··on Mom says son asked Grok AI bot about soccer; told him to send nudes
> According to xAI policy, Grok is "not directed" to children under 13 while teens between 13 and 17 must have their parent or legal guardian's permission to use it, and they must agree to the company's terms of service.

You know, I'm pretty sure it's not cool to ask for nudes from a 13 year old even if their parents say it's OK.

SketchySeaBeast··on Mom says son asked Grok AI bot about soccer; told him to send nudes
Yeah, just to be clear for everyone skimming, that's not Grok's response, that the response that CBC got when they asked for more information from xAI. Nothing but unreasonable and childish contempt from the company.
