SimeVidas··on SQLite in a PWA (Anita) with FileSystemAccessAPI
Bug report: If you navigate to the start page and click the Get Started button, the browser’s Back button stops working (you can’t return to the start page by going back).
SimeVidas··on Every pricing page should have GIFs
I’m curious, would you disable GIF autoplay if the browser’s settings offered it?
SimeVidas··on Every pricing page should have GIFs
Why 20 MB of GIFs when you can have 200 KB of videos?
SimeVidas··on Firefox is the alternative to a Chrome hegemony
> Engineers from Apple and Mozilla are largely our bastion against Google's harmful proposals for the web.

Brave also deserves a mention. As long as Brave exists in its current form, there will be a version of Chromium without Google’s “bad” stuff.

SimeVidas··on Zelda 64 has been fully decompiled
On a related note, it’s a shame that you have to look to emulators to play this game because Nintendo’s official emulation is so bad.
SimeVidas··on The curious tale of a Nintendo UK Hotliner during the console war era
“This training consisted of completing the entire NES catalogue, about 100 games, in one month.”

I’ve been playing video games my entire life, but I’m not sure I could survive this “training”.

SimeVidas··on How do people resist Covid infections? Hospital workers offer a hint
Take a look at https://www.reddit.com/r/Coronavirus/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/COVID19/.
SimeVidas··on AMP Has Irreparably Damaged Publishers’ Trust in Google-Led Initiatives
Heh, when I watched the Chrome Summit recap video earlier this week, when they talked about the Privacy Sandbox developments, I remember thinking to myself “This is all cool, but I don’t trust you”. xD
SimeVidas··on Google had a plan called “Project NERA” to turn the web into a walled garden
I didn’t say I’m not affected. I’m uninformed about most things, and I sometimes behave irrationally. I don’t see that as a problem. But it does explain why I make bad decisions. That’s all I’m saying. I guess I should have clarified that I didn’t mean my comment negatively.
SimeVidas··on Google had a plan called “Project NERA” to turn the web into a walled garden
You get used to Duck over time. Many of us have lived in pre-internet times. It was fine. You don’t have to always get the best search results immediately.
SimeVidas··on Google had a plan called “Project NERA” to turn the web into a walled garden
Simple explanation: Most people are uninformed and irrational.
SimeVidas··on Google has a secret deal with FB called “Jedi Blue” that they knew was illegal
Maybe Google’s researchers are kept out of the loop.
SimeVidas··on The Law of Shitty Clickthroughs (2012)
Speaking of laws, there should be a law that forces blogs to put publication dates below article titles. Was this article published yesterday or 10 years ago?
SimeVidas··on German BigBrotherAwards 2021
> Use of the Proctorio software also requires the Google Chrome browser to be installed on the students’ computers.

Why am I not surprised. The only major browser that doesn’t block any trackers by default is the perfect fit for this type of software.

SimeVidas··on Malwarebytes' privacy VPN is Mullvad in a shady trenchcoat
Don’t VPNs have a very large number of servers all over the world? That must cost a ton of money and make it hard for new players to enter the market without a significant investment. I’m not sure Mozilla can spare such an investment right now.
SimeVidas··on Malwarebytes' privacy VPN is Mullvad in a shady trenchcoat
What makes you so sure they could afford it? How much does it cost to set up an independent global VPN service?
SimeVidas··on Malwarebytes' privacy VPN is Mullvad in a shady trenchcoat
Yep, Mozilla does not have VPN infrastructure money. They're happy if they have enough money to develop Firefox.
SimeVidas··on Super Mario 64 has been ported to iOS
By the way, you can declare your preference for "old" in Reddit's settings. It has worked pretty well for me on desktop (not sure if old even exists on mobile).
SimeVidas··on Mozilla to put ads in Firefox address bar suggestions
> I just want a well-functioning and secure browser that people can trust.

You can't trust any of them. The real question is, who do you trust more? Google, Microsoft, Mozilla, Opera, Brave. You can't trust any of them, but you have to pick one.

SimeVidas··on Did iOS 15 kill Google AMP
There could also be a newly discovered bug or change in Safari 15 that affects AMP pages.
SimeVidas··on Why this Website is not, and may never be, HTTPS
> I can only say that if an imposter site encourages you to pay for something or download code, you will immediately know you are in the wrong place.

I actually laughed out loud (it was a dry laugh, I just woke up).

SimeVidas··on When listeners pay attention to stories, their heart rates rise and fall in sync
I don’t know why, but whenever I check my heart rate with a stopwatch, my heart beats synchronize with the watch ticks almost immediately (my normal pulse is 60 bpm). You’d think the likelihood of that happening is fairly low, but it happens almost every time.
SimeVidas··on Firefox Addons Unable to Update, Undisclosed AMO Issues
That’s technically true, but in practice, Nightly is very stable. I’ve been using it for probably five years, and issues are seldom.
SimeVidas··on Firefox Addons Unable to Update, Undisclosed AMO Issues
At least Nightly is the superior version of Firefox, so it’s an upgrade.
SimeVidas··on Why These Children Fell into Endless Sleep
Wikipedia to the rescue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resignation_syndrome#Causes
SimeVidas··on Opening http://../foo on Android Chrome crashes the browser (Warning: or worse)
> Chrome freezes and/or crashes. Note: this is even worse if the URL was opened from an intent. In that case, Chrome can end up completely bricked because upon restart it will immediately attempt to re-open the URL that crashed it. I could not recover from this without having to fully "Clear Storage".

You’re telling me Chrome does not have that feature where after a few failed attempts, the browser offers you to not open the websites from the previous session? Firefox has that.

SimeVidas··on Lab-grown meat may never be cost-competitive enough to displace traditional meat
We could tax cow farts.
SimeVidas··on Prefer the British Style of Quotation Mark Punctuation over the American
She asked, “Did you find this on Yahoo!?”.
SimeVidas··on Mozilla has defeated Microsoft’s default browser protections in Windows
Apple enforces WebKit, not Safari. You can set Firefox as default on iOS. The only problem is that it’s WebKit-based.
SimeVidas··on Ask HN: How to bypass learning CSS?
> I'm simply dreading CSS

What’s the problem?
