Shitty-kitty··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
A shitty developer can create a far worst experience on react then on native.
Shitty-kitty··on iPhone Duo
Easier to support one more aspect-ratio then two.

Unless these things start selling like hot-cakes (unlikely at the price) a lot of developers just might not bother.

Shitty-kitty··on iPhone Duo
A lot of people will look at this and say. Eh I already have an Ipad and a Imac why do I need a phone with such a large screen.

Their selling point is: Not having to switch from one app to another when Multitasking.

Shitty-kitty··on Dwarf Fortress is getting the mother of all magic updates
The drivers for D3D and Vulkan are separate, so supporting both opens you up to a whole new slew of bugs.

Mesa is largely an Umbrella. While some of the code is shared by in large, AMD works on radv, intel works on vulkan-intel and of course Nvidia work's on its own proprietary driver rather then very limited NVK.

Many games are first released on PC and only ported if they get big enough. So there are no considerations for cross-platform support in the original development.

Shitty-kitty··on Three sites made 215,128 “best software” pages for AI. Perplexity cites them
More likely, it crawled-thru Construction permit listings.
Shitty-kitty··on Dwarf Fortress is getting the mother of all magic updates
When a game glitches because of a driver bug, its the game developer that gets the bug reports (and the heat) and often has to isolate the problem to convince the gpu driver-team to fix it.

You may note that I specifically said "PC game developers" Your whole but consoles argument, completely misses the mark.

Shitty-kitty··on Dwarf Fortress is getting the mother of all magic updates
Optimization and bug hunting makes supporting multiple graphics api's a pain. I really don't understand Apple's stubborn refusal to make vulkan drivers. Between Apple and the better performance on SteamDeck, I can see PC game developers seriously considering Vulkan over directx.
Shitty-kitty··on A 25-year-old video patent just expired, ending a legal headache for Linux
You are wrong about why open-source projects are banning AI contributions. While vibe-coded slop is obviously a pain, many are banning even their own well-known contributors from using A.I to write large parts of code due to legal concerns.

I'm sure the patent/copyright trolls care a lot about the "industry." It is still the early days but eventually they will come on knocking.

Shitty-kitty··on A 25-year-old video patent just expired, ending a legal headache for Linux
The problem often stems from the Patent Offices getting caught flat-footed with new tech. When the patent officers don't know enough about the field they are reviewing it is easy for things which are "obvious to experts in the field" or "overly broad" to slip thru and cause major headaches for everyone.
Shitty-kitty··on A 25-year-old video patent just expired, ending a legal headache for Linux
You don't know what code the A.I has been trained on. It may very well be reproducing actual Copyrighted material it has been trained on.

This is the major reason why most large open-source projects are banning big code contributions made with A.I

Shitty-kitty··on A 25-year-old video patent just expired, ending a legal headache for Linux
A patent is meant to encourage people and companies to share the details of their inventions, instead of keeping them secret. In return the inventors get protection for a certain number of years.
Shitty-kitty··on Abdominal fat predicts heart disease risk better than BMI
My wife and I both eat the same healthy Mediterranean diet (born in the region) Yet she is obese. Her body simply doesn't send the "that's enough" signals when it should and she overeats. It is possible to get get fat on a healthy diet, it is just easier with high calorie junk.
Shitty-kitty··on Abdominal fat predicts heart disease risk better than BMI
Complications of obesity such as gout were considered "Diseases of affluence" The vast majority suffered from "diseases of poverty"
Shitty-kitty··on Why is everyone trying to build a solid-state battery?
An ion is a atom that has lost electrons and thus it has a + charge. The electrons are the - charge. The electrolyte allows + to flow but not -
Shitty-kitty··on A.I. companies are recruiting electricians and carpenters by the thousands
Careful with UBI. What they are thinking is reshuffling/re-branding Medicaid/Food Stamps/Housing voucher, etc, into one lump sum that just like the current welfare, will barely be enough to keep you alive.
Shitty-kitty··on A.I. companies are recruiting electricians and carpenters by the thousands
Getting an idea out there quickly and cheaply is definitely a good use for AI. In the context of the original op, this is not putting any developers out of work. Quite the contrary, if the idea takes off then you will probably want to make a proper implementation with a carefully thought out UX.
Shitty-kitty··on A.I. companies are recruiting electricians and carpenters by the thousands
What is you opinion of U.I "designed" by someone without UX experience, thru prompting. Most likely you cringe at how bad they are, as do the reset of us.

Similarly, programmers have a name for code generated without a coder guiding and reviewing, A.I slop.

Shitty-kitty··on A.I. companies are recruiting electricians and carpenters by the thousands
Vibe coding by people with no programming skills is not going to happen. What will happen is moving to higher and higher code representations. A compiler is already doing 99% of the actual coding when you realize that the only language computers understand is assembly.
Shitty-kitty··on A taxonomy of omnicidal futures involving artificial intelligence (2025)
Imagine AI during the Cuban missile crisis telling both sides, the other is about to launch a first strike. The USSR is gone but China is only getting stronger and more confrontational.
Shitty-kitty··on Couple pay >$800k for a gene-editing therapy for their daughter. She died.
It is important to note that in China, developmental delays are treated with ridicule for the affected and as a source of shame for the families.

I'm not passing judgment on the parents, I'm just pointing out that how society treats developmental delays is extremely important to the quality of life of these people.

Here in the US autism was considered a "mental illness" until the 1980's.

Shitty-kitty··on We Demand Perfect Machines yet Tolerate Human Carnage
The point is because they are all identical they should not be compared to the "average," a pool of good and bad drivers but rather good drivers alone. Unless you mandate "no more humans on the road" is is not the speed-daemons and lane-cutters that will choose automated cars.
Shitty-kitty··on We Demand Perfect Machines yet Tolerate Human Carnage
Each human is different so we treat them as separate entities. Machines, by design are cookie-cutter copies. If one Waymo did something horribly stupid, then all Waymos would have done that exact same thing in that situation.
Shitty-kitty··on What will be left for us to work on?
I would take Anthropics "Theoretical limits of A.i" sales brochure, with a very large grain of salt.
Shitty-kitty··on Late Bronze Age Collapse
It could also be that saying "wondering the desert" sounds better to a farming population then "they lived as nomads."
Shitty-kitty··on What's slowing down the AI buildout
The problem is that they are building these wherever they can without any consideration for how they are affecting the communities. The noise concerns are common because they build them in areas without enough electric capacity. The water concerns are real, not because of some paper or because the water usage is incredibly high but again because they built them in locations that don't have enough of that resource. The tax subsidies were negotiated in bad-faith, essentially lying about the number of permanent high-paying jobs they bring.
Shitty-kitty··on What's slowing down the AI buildout
Of course, that's money that is not going to go to slowing global warming.
Shitty-kitty··on What's slowing down the AI buildout
Even rural localities in blood-red states are opposing datacenters. Noise, water electricity usage coupled with few permanent jobs and little tax-income due to subsidies have made them unpalatable to many.
Shitty-kitty··on GLM 5.2 is nearly as accurate as a human book keeper
Humans are more likely to make small mistakes but the internal consistency check is pretty good at catching large errors. On top of that, fudging numbers to make everything add up is not something humans do (not unintentionally at least)
Shitty-kitty··on GLM 5.2 is nearly as accurate as a human book keeper
The problem with LLM's is that they could work correctly for months and years and then do something egregious which will will go unnoticed because of the misplaced trust one develops on a system that "just seems to work." Get flagged for an expensive audit and there go all the savings and then some.
Shitty-kitty··on The short leash AI coding method for beating Fable
That's exactly what the LLM seems to have done as well. The problem is that we want and even expect the A.I to be truthful.
