Shekelphile··on Substack Notes Launched
Your snark isn't needed. I'm obviously not a user of the 'for you' timeline and still got those artificially promoted tweets from people I don't follow and were not retweeted by those that I do. It's why I stopped using twitter and I see no reason to change that.

> There was some protection in the fact that it was prohibitively expensive to get someone to listen to every single one of our phonecalls/read all our emails/etc.

That's already how it worked on platforms like mturk and uhrs, lots of the work was transcribing audio dumps from microphones built into computers/phones/smart home devices. UHRS especially had a lot of that (it's owned by MS) as well as search engine grading type work. They also certainly do not pay well, I'd imagine that in practice there isn't much cost difference to paying a bunch of bored people to do it vs the compute cost for running an AI model to do it, but the AI model will be vastly more accurate and will work 24/7.

You can't actually block Musk's account these days. If you do, his tweets will still be automatically put in your feed.

Of course. It's never been about free speech, but promoting Musk's personal interests and brand of politics.

'Censorship regime'? In the time since Musk took over twitter I've gotten right-wing tweets forced into my feed despite not following a single right winger and a ton of high profile people have been banned for speaking out about him.

Not to mention that old Twitter never hamfistedly censored people by straight up shadowbanning users for using the words 'mastodon' or 'substack' in their tweets.

> Take reddit for example. Shaming fat people is legal. Being antisemitic is legal. Being a racist is legal. Most pornography is legal.

Are they actually blocking speech like that though? I don't see much harassment of overweight people since FPH got banned but antisemitism and racism and similar bigotry (especially transphobia) is not uncommon at all and is a daily sight in any remotely politically bent discussion.

> I am 100% confident that should human society settle on the planet we will totally ignore the fact that's going to happen one day and it will be a amazing catastrophe when it finally does occur.

Will never happen without major science fiction grade technology, the atmosphere is way too thick to even think about sending anything larger than a tiny probe into.

Shekelphile··on Lab leak most likely origin of Covid-19 pandemic, U.S. agency now says
> Lab leak and bio weapon are two completely different theories

No, they're not. The people who pushed the lab leak hoax originally (and as evidenced by several redcap troll accounts in this thread) all believed that covid-19 was engineered in a lab and released by the chinese government to harm them personally.

Even if it ends up being a case where a natural virus was studied in a lab and accidentally released, it does not validate their views.

Shekelphile··on Lessons Learned from 1 Year of Intermittent Fasting
If you work long hours or have other obligations it's fun to see how far you can take it. I've fasted 24h+ a couple times, and often fast 16-20h if I skip breakfast and then work a 10-12h shift that day. I've never done well eating 3 meals a day and have always drifted towards OMAD style eating naturally.
