SergeyHack··on The Day the Replication Died
It would be really interesting to read your writeup on MySQL Galera usage.
SergeyHack··on Web Development: A Crazy World
Exactly. Unfortunately this kind of discussions often leads to "black"/ "white" suggestions instead of the looking for a good balance between poles.

I wish all the energy of these polarized discussions would go into learning of the ways to find a good balance.

SergeyHack··on Super Cheap Virtual Private Servers - the Wild West of Hosting
Probably that's why I encountered the limit of about 100 reqs per second when was stress testing my hetzner VPS from the outside.
SergeyHack··on Why I Wish Google Circles Were Reversed
Could you clarify in what situation you think G+ is now?
SergeyHack··on Improving Programmer Productivity (Mind Map)
Maybe. The main question is how the initial quality audience can be found and involved? Are there enough blogs to link to?

The similar StackExchange site can not start for quite a long time: http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/17225/personal-dev...

SergeyHack··on Improving Programmer Productivity (Mind Map)
Maybe I'm overcautious here.

It's not a white/ black thing. If you know under what circumstances there could be bad side effects, if you listen to your body it's not bad.

But there are some people that just want a simple answer and are not interested in knowing the details.

SergeyHack··on Improving Programmer Productivity (Mind Map)
There is a partial description here: http://www2.hawaii.edu/~lady/archive/core-transformation.htm...
SergeyHack··on Improving Programmer Productivity (Mind Map)
Sorry, but I have chosen not to reveal the easy answer. I don't want to feel myself responsible for other people harming their health when they are not careful.
SergeyHack··on Improving Programmer Productivity (Mind Map)
Red ones are notes, black ones are the main content.
SergeyHack··on Improving Programmer Productivity (Mind Map)
Here is the site: http://coretransformation.org/. The book is very good. There are videos of the sessions on YouTube, but they are not explaining the process.
SergeyHack··on Improving Programmer Productivity (Mind Map)
Fixed.
SergeyHack··on Improving Programmer Productivity (Mind Map)
I agree. It's a great one but unfortunately lost among huge amounts of so-called "great methodologies".
SergeyHack··on Improving Programmer Productivity (Mind Map)
Nice catches! Thanks. Fixing...
SergeyHack··on Show HN: Beauty Contest for Virtual Life - Digital Art Project (lurepet.com)
It's all custom code.

The fitness function is the human's taste for beauty which cannot be formalized in a direct way. As I suppose genetic libraries are only solving the cases when the fitness function can be expressed formally.

SergeyHack··on Show HN: Beauty Contest for Virtual Life - Digital Art Project (lurepet.com)
Actually, Zazzle ones are mine :) But I see that it's not clear enough.

Thanks for the feedback.

SergeyHack··on Show HN: Beauty Contest for Virtual Life - Digital Art Project (lurepet.com)
Yes, I could. I just overestimated the load a lot. That is why I went that "static" route.
SergeyHack··on Show HN: Beauty Contest for Virtual Life - Digital Art Project (lurepet.com)
About 20000.

Currently on the site there are less than 100.

No, they did not die. They are still sleeping on my hard drive :)

SergeyHack··on How To Learn About Everything
I agree with nadam. You can use the knowledge you gained from fair understanding of a lot of topics to learn the next topic deeply in a more efficient way.
SergeyHack··on Suicide
I spent about 12 years in a search for a really good psychotherapy. Honestly, most of the widespread psychotherapy is crap. I have found the really good one recently. "Core Transformation" by Andreas. There is the book. Also there are seminars - see coretransformation.org
SergeyHack··on Researchers’ Typosquatting Stole 20 GB of E-Mail From Fortune 500
It would be better to show the timezone, whether it's UTC or what. For example here: http://typed.it/reports/traffic/stackoverflow.com/hour
SergeyHack··on Paper: The Akamai Network - 61,000 Servers, 1,000 Networks, 70 Countries
It's strange that www.cloudclimate.com/cdn-speed-test reports Akamai Global Average as 1301 ms (102250 Tests)

Though it also reports Rackspace Global Average as 695 ms (91990 Tests)

SergeyHack··on I Like PHP
See Enlive from the Clojure world. This is the detailed explanation of why Enlive rocks - https://github.com/swannodette/enlive-tutorial
SergeyHack··on A note to Google recruiters (and on Google hiring practices)
It's too early to say "G+ success".
SergeyHack··on ClojureScript
See this comment - http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2788849
SergeyHack··on ClojureScript
Yes, it's a big step in that direction. Rich said it should be easy to change JS target for another.
SergeyHack··on ClojureScript
IIRC just atoms are available right now.
SergeyHack··on Just work hard
Also I would say "hard work" is a bad metaphor. More important parts are:

1) (as you said) "work smart"

2) "enjoy your work"

and only then 3) "work hard"

SergeyHack··on [benchmarks] MongoDB kicks MySQL's ass no matter the circumstances
From the perspective of that topic IMHO it would be better to 1) use Postresql 2) use tests that are more complex than random gets/puts by key, i.e. a few consecutive updates that modify intersecting sets of indexes.
SergeyHack··on Noir - The Clojure web framework
Wicket and Tapestry are trying to do the similar thing. Not as good as Enlive though.
SergeyHack··on DuckDuckGo: Escape your search engine filter bubble
I reported this localization problem years ago. The best way is to take language from browser headers, like a lot of other sites do.

For some reason responsible googlers were ignoring my proposal.
