SentientAtom··on Over 16k people still use a Pebble smartwatch
If it works for you, why would you migrate to a different product with features or performance outside of your needs? We are so deep into a disposable society that we eagerly await the NEXT BIG THING (TM) without ever evaluating what our need consists of or whether we have any need for an upgrade to begin with.
SentientAtom··on Most people don’t finish online job applications
Screening applicants is LITERALLY their job. No need to shift the burden of poor candidates to the good candidates by requiring resumes be parsed into format stripping text boxes.

Professional CV:

I have experience. I am willing to work in exchange for fiat. I look forward to joining the team.

Seriously though, read the fucking resume. I am not here to stroke an hiring manager's corpo boner on how gratified I am for the opportunity to apply to wagery nor will I be conflating my world view on being part of a TEAM. I give you a service, you give me money. We are not friends, we are not family, this is business.

I see you're looking to apply to our technical position. You will be happy to find we have excluded salary from this posting to assure your heart is really in it for the career and development! We see you have a resume to attach, please copy and paste every field into a separate box, and make sure to give us the phone number of the manager you had in 2003 and also the day you started. Excellent, now we will ghost you or if we are interested we may put you through 6 rounds of hiring interviews where you can explain to non-SME's why you deserve the opportunity to work here. Great, now complete 34 modules on sensitivity, espionage, theft, and how to operate doorknobs.

Think of humanity as your benevolent owner, like a hamster owning teenager. He will feed you, probably.
SentientAtom··on I asked Signal motivations for SMS removal
Due to MMS/SMS messages getting hung I switched to YAATA for messaging people who do not have Signal. It is unfortunate Google is going to take exclusive control of SMS on Android with this RCS implementation. Just another "baked" in half-assed feature that android will permission wall its users from and support at the minimum level they can get away with. Now SMS can be natively as broken as notifications, face proximity sensors, file management, background service management, power management, and a myriad of other android "features" they refuse to fix.

Unfortunately, you have now made it easier for corpo IP and copyright parsing of the collection. They will undoubtedly butcher the archives using this clean tool to find anything still profitable in their eyes.
SentientAtom··on Kodak Is Hiring Film Technicians: ‘We Cannot Keep Up with Demand’
Eastman Kodak sold off all their valuable IP a long time ago. Densitometers, Colorimeters, then more recently the silver-halide paper and the chemistry to Sino in China. Wouldn't go to work for them even if I got paid well.
SentientAtom··on How to succeed at Meta
But everyone looked so damned productive in the analytics captures we ran with KPIs, milestones, and reports! Too bad it is a forest for the trees situation where everything granular is lost and no one is making sure the "spirit" of the roles are being fulfilled. Just becomes a group effort to play the numbers instead of accomplishing the actual goals of the project.
SentientAtom··on How to succeed at Meta
You are hired to fulfil a job role based on your experience. Metrics are just a tool that tries to highlight your effectiveness for corpos too large to have oversight in the actual productivity of the workforce.
SentientAtom··on How to succeed at Meta
Worked at AMZ as EAM admin, this describes their metric fixation. You spent more time chasing metrics than actually performing work, it was exhausting. Metrics for everything too, many of which would require intervention in the relational database by other team members several states away that didn't reply to emails or wouldn't prioritize your requests.
SentientAtom··on Kosmos 482: questions around a failed 1972 Venera lander still orbiting Earth
How fascinating it would be to recover it for posterity.
SentientAtom··on Engineer turns plastic into bricks that are reportedly stronger than concrete
Plastic requires extraction and process of petrol which is neither clean nor energy efficient, it also requires heat to extrude and cooling to set and release from molding. Plastics have also contributed greatly to a disposable approach to consumer products instead of durable or reusable. Lastly plastics are highly detrimental to the environment as they as and breakdown into smaller plastics that contaminate the food chain. To call them lifesaving is a farce.
SentientAtom··on Engineer turns plastic into bricks that are reportedly stronger than concrete
Plastics are polymers that are vulnerable to UV degradation resulting in the production of microplastics. This has no application in direct sunlight PERIOD.
