SchwKatze··on Supabase is acquiring Turso
Congrats! The team is very based and I've learned a lot contributing to Turso, amazing people
SchwKatze··on São Paulo resident transforms degraded area into urban forest
This reminded the movie Ikiru (いきる), basically a elder discovered he will die and after some time he finds a purpose to its meaningless life, transform a wasteland into a playground.

All these stories have one thing in common: be obsessed with something that will improve other people's life.

SchwKatze··on Dungeon Proof Crawler: learn how to write proofs with RPG
Sorry, I didn't even know RPG is a language, it's too late to edit tho
SchwKatze··on GrapheneOS has been ported to Android 17
Does it means that any device that supports android 17 will support graphene as well?

Hey! Great work, really glad to see a Brazilian fella doing such an amazing work.

Greetings from Minas Gerais

SchwKatze··on Surely the crash of the US economy has to be soon
Yeah, as a SWE I just got sufficient money to pay my expenses AND have some to invest quite recently (about 2/1 months ago), but I basically froze the money instead of investing because everything seems overvalued and about to fall (even silver and gold).
SchwKatze··on Surely the crash of the US economy has to be soon
I saw the graphs of some silver mining stocks and it seems to just follow silver price, why don't just buy silver then?
SchwKatze··on Surely the crash of the US economy has to be soon
I'm kinda new into economy crashes, was a kid in 2008, is there a way to protect of it?
SchwKatze··on Bf-Tree: modern read-write-optimized concurrent larger-than-memory range index
That's on me, I thought it would receive the attention it deserves if people jump straight into the code (and see the "written in Rust btw").
SchwKatze··on Bf-Tree: modern read-write-optimized concurrent larger-than-memory range index
I think a better candidate to prototype would be SQLite, at least to have a better sense of how would bf-tree behave on real world

> You managed to clone the repo an run your test by yourself, whatever the outcome is this is a plus against the standard model for scientific research.

That's so true, which is kinda funny since one of the cornerstone of scientific thinking is reproducibility.

IMHO they're using the best tool for this, nix.

SchwKatze··on Databases in 2025: A Year in Review
I think you could build an ETL-ish workflow where you use SQLite for OLTP and DuckDB for OLAP, but I suppose it's very workload dependent, there are several tradeoffs here.
SchwKatze··on Databases in 2025: A Year in Review
Can we even say that Anyblox is a file format? By my understanding of the project it's "just" a decoder for other file formats to solve the MxN problem.

SchwKatze··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
Yeah, they are [1]

SchwKatze··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
Yeah, totally agree. Like anything that matters this is a complex topic with multiple reasons to each move in this game, my positive position towards what happened is pretty much related to the reactions of my Venezuelans friends and my personal perception of how people has suffered with Maduro's regime.
SchwKatze··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
As a Latino and friend of several people that scaped from Maduro's regime I can easily say that people in South America are happy as ever.

Also, some people seems to miss the fact that South America military power is very weak, and we, culturally, are way less proned to fight and die than people in middle east.

Yeah, we know this is all about oil, and I'm interested to know what kind of democracy will emerge. But the fact is we don't have a, undeniable, dictator as neighbor, and my friends can see their families again.

SchwKatze··on Framework Raises DDR5 Memory Prices by 50% for DIY Laptops
My question is, will the ram price go down at some point or is it a point of no return?
SchwKatze··on The RAM shortage comes for us all
I just gathered enough money to build my new PC. I'll even go to another country to pay less taxes, and this spike hit me hard. I'll buy anyway because I don't believe it will slow down so soon. But yeah, for me is a lot of money
SchwKatze··on 28M Hacker News comments as vector embedding search dataset
I know it's unrelated but does anyone knows a good paper comparing vector searches vs "normal" full text search? Sometimes I ask myself of the squeeze worth the juice
SchwKatze··on Cloudflare outage on November 18, 2025 post mortem
Yeah, I think I expressed wrongly here. A more correct version would be: "when you do unwrap() you're saying that an error on this particular path shouldn't be recoverable and we should fail-safe."
SchwKatze··on Cloudflare outage on November 18, 2025 post mortem
Unwrap isn't a synonym for laziness, it's just like an assertion, when you do unwrap() you're saying the Result should NEVER fail, and if does, it should abort the whole process. What was wrong was the developer assumption, not the use of unwrap.
SchwKatze··on Show HN: Building WebSocket in Apache Iggy with Io_uring and Completion Based IO
Krishna is a high quality engineer, pretty happy to see the good work he is doing on Iggy. Pretty excited with the future of the project as well.
SchwKatze··on Wired: An underground HN alternative
I coined it as underground precisely for that, it's just a handmade website hosted in a VPS by some random dude
SchwKatze··on Building a programming language using SQLite's VM – Pt 1
Author here. It's my first technical blog post so any feedback is appreciated.

Also, if this sparked any design idea please don't hesitate to reach me, I'd love to try to implement it and/or debate it :)

SchwKatze··on Building a message queue with only two UNIX signals
I'm truly curious to know why would this be rude, seriously. Maybe it's a cultural mismatch.

For me ragebait and rudeness are things like: "X sucks, use Y", "If you aren't doing W you're losing money", etc.

He never said that Kafka sucks, nor anything related, obviously you can't replace kafka with only two signals. I'm asking with all politeness as possible, I just wanna understand what other people consider improper behavior

SchwKatze··on Building a message queue with only two UNIX signals
Maybe, but I know Leandro, it was more a joke than anything else. People just don't chill, the post is cool
