We are too far from exploring alternate economies. LLMs will not push us there, atleast not in their current state.

He did use it as the opening line in his tweet, making it look like a statement he was making. No quotation marks around it or anything.

First, it is LLMs. Second, we can focus on both the technology and the error.

> Everyone is talking about it, all the time, nonstop! How is that not a network?

Network effect in this context means the product is successful primarily because everyone else is using it. Not easy to compete with Instagram/Tiktok because you need most users to use your new app, not just a few. Amazon can only deliver fast because they have a huge delivery network, because most people use Amazon.

No such effect or moat exists for AI companies. In fact, it is the opposite. Same prompt will give you very similar results in any AI product.

You can't compete with amazon now, even with a better product. But you can easily kill AI companies if you have a better model.

> I'm pretty sure a team of two or three senior developers with great domain knowledge would be competitive with a team of 10 average devs.

This has always been true. LLMs didn't change that.

Sateeshm··on India's repair culture gives new life to dead laptops
I used to do at-home computer troubleshooting as a part time job when was in college. Most of time it was just opening up the casing, dusting it and reattaching all the parts/reinstalling Windows that did the trick. 90% of time it was just RAM popping out a bit. But in rare cases, it was the components themselves. I used to rely of these shops in the city (Hyderabad, India) that fixed motherboards etc. really cheap and relatively quickly (less than a week most of the time). People that worked there weren't engineers or anything, more like tradesmen. It was amazing to see them work.

Dependencies issue is not exclusive to frameworks. If you don't want to reinvent the wheel, there's no way around using packages, even if you go with vanilla JS.

Sateeshm··on Show HN: TimeRetain – A browser-based personal time tracker, no sign-up needed
Well done!

I created a keyboard-based local storage based time and to-do tracker 3 years ago.

I was starting out in web dev and wrote it for my own use but moved on to other stuff - don't think I even wrote any media queries. I think the codebase since, but just remembered I had it deployed on an internal site for testing - hackily removed a few things from it from the compiled JS and put it on Github.

Try it out here: https://trackey-beige.vercel.app/

https://github.com/sateeshsai/trackey (compiled JS from a Svelte 3 codebase I lost to time)
