SapporoChris··on Sweden becomes a smoke-free country
Zyn pouches are designed to be placed between the user's upper lip and gum, or between the gum and cheek, and used for up to one hour. If someone is swapping out in five minutes then they are literally wasting product, even if you chewed it for five minutes I don't think you could process it all. Based on my experience in using the product for a couple of months.
SapporoChris··on Japan is gripped by mass allergies. A 1950s project is to blame
Different pollen have different weights. If you're seeing yellow dust laying on the ground then it's likely to be a heavy pollen that won't bother many people unless they actively stir it up. Example: People with pine allergies aren't really bothered unless they play in the pine needles and stir it up.

Not familiar with the biology of the matter. But I would assume there are advantages and disadvantages to the weight of the pollen in how it disperses and pollinates.

Like a personalized advertisement for a bail bonding service to the driver of the vehicle reported stolen.

It will go away once someone hacks it and shows inappropriate content.
SapporoChris··on What Big Food Did to Ice Cream
The article praises Häagen-Dazs as a beacon of integrity. If a company names itself with deceit I am doubtful of their integrity.

"Häagen-Dazs" is an invented pseudo-Scandinavian phrase coined by the American Reuben Mattus, in a quest for a brand name that he claimed was Danish-sounding.

SapporoChris··on 590k buyers paid $59M for Trump's gold phone, but not one has shipped
I referenced the article and the math seems fine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_Tour_(The_Jacksons)#Ti...

Tour attendance: 2.5 million Only 1 in 10 purchases were honored, so purchase for 25 million tickets were attempted. $750 million in Money market at 7% for 6 to 8 weeks.

So, 6 to 8 million in interest depending on the weeks (6 to 8) in money market.

SapporoChris··on Space Cadet Pinball on Linux
Yes tilting an actual pinball machine is very legitimate. On the other end, pinball machines have adjustable legs and the arcade owner will make adjustments to the machine to throw people off. Not daily, but when they notice someone is constantly earning free plays, they will take action. Any minor changes will cause the ball to take slightly different paths.
SapporoChris··on America's carpet capital: an empire and its toxic legacy
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10237242/ Our review of industry documents shows that companies knew PFAS was “highly toxic when inhaled and moderately toxic when ingested” by 1970, forty years before the public health community.
SapporoChris··on HantaWatch Real time hantavirus outbreak tracker
I think we are safe from a pandemic. Hantavirus is primarily transmitted through inhaling virus particles from rodent urine, droppings, or saliva that become airborne.
SapporoChris··on HantaWatch Real time hantavirus outbreak tracker
The number of cases of hantavirus annually is incredibly low. There's absolutely no reason to track cases.

SapporoChris··on First Tesla Semi Rolls Off High-Volume Production Line
Okay, sure, for one year. But "for year 2025" was not a qualification the grandparent poster made.
SapporoChris··on First Tesla Semi Rolls Off High-Volume Production Line
I am not convinced this is true. But perhaps you are using different criteria than this source.

For example the Toyota Corolla has sold 50 million, the Model Y, slightly over 2 million.

SapporoChris··on I quit drinking for a year
I looked up the risk factors for Colorectal cancer and it is influenced by various lifestyle and genetic factors, including: Diet (high in red and processed meats), Obesity, Smoking, and Lack of physical activity.

I also noted that rates are appear to actually be decreasing. At least according to the National Cancer Institute. https://seer.cancer.gov/statfacts/html/colorect.html

SapporoChris··on The Joy of Folding Bikes
Not the same bike, but here's one folded up. Not the best picture in my opinion. But it looks like it folds up very compactly.

SapporoChris··on EV sales soar in main European markets as drivers shun expensive petrol
Sad to say, the best does not always win. There are countless examples in technology, products, politics, etc etc.
SapporoChris··on The quiet disappearance of the free-range childhood
2nd Paragraph. The following figures on missing children have been pulled from the 1999 NISMART study. Updated commentary on these initial figures are outlined in subsequent studies in 2002 and 2013. (2002 and 2013 are hyperlinks)
SapporoChris··on The quiet disappearance of the free-range childhood
Examples of nonfamily abduction episodes are omitted because NISMART–3 identified too few to analyze. Source: https://ojjdp.ojp.gov/sites/g/files/xyckuh176/files/pubs/250... which is the source of what you cited as your source.
SapporoChris··on Why Japan has such good railways
Actually, ticketless services are being rolled out. Example: https://www.jreast.co.jp/en/multi/ticket/eticket.html
SapporoChris··on Why Japan has such good railways
"Japanese public transport is good, but no match for the Swiss system." I did some internet searches and Tokyo seems to always come in first when comparing rail systems. Switzerland comes in 3rd sometimes. Reasons for Tokyo being ranked first seem to be utilization, safety and punctuality.

Public transportation shutting down at midnight might be an annoyance to some, but it is a blessing to those that reside very close to the metro lines.

SapporoChris··on The quiet disappearance of the free-range childhood
Certainly the differences matter. If the vast majority of the abductions are 'Parental child abduction' and very few children are abducted by strangers.

"On average, fewer than 350 people under the age of 21 have been abducted by strangers in the United States per year since 2010, the FBI says. From 2010 through 2017, the most recent data available, the number has ranged from a low of 303 in 2016 to a high of 384 in 2011 with no clear directional trend." https://www.reuters.com/article/us-wisconsin-missinggirl-dat...

I would say that abduction by stranger rates are very low.

SapporoChris··on Google broke its promise to me – now ICE has my data
When visiting other countries never take part in protests. Avoid areas where protests are likely to occur, travel advisories sometimes explicitly point out areas. It is probably best to avoid anything political.

"In September 2024, Amandla Thomas-Johnson was a Ph.D. candidate studying in the U.S. on a student visa when he briefly attended a pro-Palestinian protest."

SapporoChris··on US appeals court declares 158-year-old home distilling ban unconstitutional
I forget the exact wording, but the seat belt law are a good example of it. Laws are passed to protect the populace from self harm so that society doesn't suffer from it. It probably doesn't apply here because home distillation is very niche. However, if a bunch of people show up in emergency rooms and it drives up health care costs then expect a quick reversal in policy.
