SanjayUttam··on Show HN: Survey Builder with Drag/Drop Logic Branching
This is really great work.

Slightly off-topic; there have been a ton of great submissions "Show HN" posts lately. I find myself signing up for most of them just because I either think they are useful right now or will be very shortly. This is no exception. Keep up the great work all.

SanjayUttam··on Show HN: Real-time application performance monitoring
Just an FYI, the link to the windows installer on the modal that launches immediately after you sign-up is dead (http://www.graphdat.com/agent/GraphdatAgent.exe)

Note, I'm only half done with my coffee so...you never know.

Update: I just came back to the site and launched the model seems like the link is now http://windows.graphdat.com/agent/GraphdatAgent.exe which works...

SanjayUttam··on Everything Technical in F1
Ending refueling during the race did a lot reducing the time required and therefore positions lost when you come in - so _some_ changes are good, though I agree most don't move the needle at all. This season is great - coming down to the last race to see who comes out on top between Vettel & Alonso...even if only mathematically, I couldn't really ask for too much more.

A few years ago they were discussing making qualy 3 short "sprint" races where the fastest of the pack start at the back of the next sprint - now that would be cool.

Edit: Forgot to mention how much I love seeing anything F1 related on HN.

SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: What do you do when your cubicle is next to somplace noisy?
First off - talk to your boss about perhaps working from home N days a week. There are other options - but they are all workarounds I think (noise cancelling headphones, etc.)
SanjayUttam··on LinkedIn Mobile Moved from Rails to Node: 27 Servers Cut and Up to 20x Faster
"Programmers could leverage their JavaScript skills."

I'm confused by that being an advantage - I guess that's better than using some language you don't know at all, but it's still a bit of a different approach to JS, no?

SanjayUttam··on Show HN: I got tired of missing new music releases, so I built this
Was just going to say the same thing. Very lightweight, skinnable (via css + html).
SanjayUttam··on Everything's broken and nobody's upset
I don't think the OP is being serious. Wash dishes by hand? Call me optimistic but, I kind of thought we perfected the craft of producing dishwashers.
SanjayUttam··on Add two-factor authentication to your ssh in 30 seconds
Great idea
SanjayUttam··on HBO No Go
Regarding the À la carte / "let me pay for it"; keep in mind that historically HBO sells their content to cable companies - they don't have the support infrastructure to go "direct to consumers" at that scale yet (though I think there is some limited HBO GO support at present). Additionally, I'm not sure how thrilled their currently customers/cable companies would be about HBO going direct - essentially opening up a channel for getting content without the need for a cable subscription. I'm not at all saying it's a bad idea, but I think HBO is in the very early stages of flushing out the kinks...
SanjayUttam··on Y Combinator’s Young Startups Tout Revenue Over Users
Totally. I read the headline and thought "and...?"
SanjayUttam··on How to Hire a Programmer
I see posts like this regularly on HN (lists of stuff you should do to hire that top 1% of talent). What I don't recall seeing, though, is a post more along the lines of employment branding. I understand how for very small start-ups that may just be a waste of time but when you get to a certain point it seems like you're going to want to do something. That might just be having a labs.yourCompany.com blog, or releasing an open-source project once in a while. I think that great devs want to work places where they know the work is interesting/fun/whatever. It's a lot easier for you to get the word out via say a blog, rather than have a 1-1 conversation with someone over the phone to communicate the cool stuff you're doing. Just my 2 cents.
SanjayUttam··on Visualizing YouTube with my home-made JavaScript graph drawing library
Pretty cool. It would be awesome if you showed the title or other meta-info when you hover over the thumbnail of a video. Great job though.
SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: Webapps you can't live without?
I second Diigo. Been using this service for years and as a technologist having the ability to do a keyword search of your bookmarks as awesome, especially when you can upload to Diigo's repository.
SanjayUttam··on Why ++[[]][+[]]+[+[]] = 10 in JavaScript

SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: What music do you like to listen to while you program?
Interesting...if I add you to friends it shows your name
SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: How can I convince my co-founders not to use a LAMP stack and should I?
Use the language they know best (e.g., Can code fastest in). There are two phases to your start-up. 1) Is this shit going to work? 2) Holy shit this is working.

You are in step 1, get it out the door and worry about all that other stuff later.

SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: What music do you like to listen to while you program?
Even though I listen to slower/ambient music I can totally understand this. I used to crank up Way Out West and drink lots of caffeine...I would get an amazing amount of work done (at least relative to myself)
SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: What music do you like to listen to while you program?
I actually have a pretty hard time coding without music, maybe I'm used to it. I usually listen to electronic but nothing too fast. Generally anything that is at the bob-your-head tempo. PhuturePrimitive (lately: Kinetik), Max Melvin, Eastern Sun, Sounds From The Ground. Oh, and sometimes I just _need_ to listen to Underworld, DubNobassWithMyHeadMan. If I don't want to think about putting creating a playlist or selecting an album, I'm listening to GrooveSalad on Somafm.com.

FWIW, my spotify username sanjayU. I would be interested in learning other HN spotify usernames, especially if you like downtempo/triphop/world/etc.

edit: Added phutureprimitive.

SanjayUttam··on Start-Up New York?
"The New York Times over the weekend posted this great map showing the location of more than 400 New York City start-ups ..."

At some point, we're going to re-visit the definition of "Start-Up". Google/Twitter/FB?

SanjayUttam··on Free Online Courses from Top Universities
I've been a developer for a bit and decided to brush up on some of the basics. Started watching the CS50 class (yes - I'm starting at the beginning!) with David Malan. And wow, it's really fantastic to see such a knowledgeable individual with so much passion on the subject speak. Made that hour and 13 minutes fly right by. Highly recommended.
SanjayUttam··on Reading local files in JavaScript (HTML5)
Apologies for veering off topic a bit...

Does have experience with the CORS "partial support" in IE?

SanjayUttam··on How to hire an idiot
I'd also add: Never assume an individual is competent based on their title and/or the company they work for.
SanjayUttam··on Spotify now requires a Facebook account to sign up.
I like the Spotify UI much better, but Grooveshark is pretty good too.
SanjayUttam··on Spotify now requires a Facebook account to sign up.
UGH. I'm having the same problem (stuck in offline mode), only it is with my android app...
SanjayUttam··on What happened to all the female developers?
Totally off topic, but, is that Font intended?
SanjayUttam··on Show HN: JavaScript implementation of Spotify client (Chrome only)
Unless he used a proxy...(picky, sorry, couldn't help it)
SanjayUttam··on Try node.js in the browser
Gilt Group uses Node.js along with Hummingbird to do real-time traffic analysis/monitoring.

SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: Where to procrastinate?
I'm really curious. Are you avoiding work? School work? Something else?

I can easily spend an entire day on just HN and SO.

You could also just play with new programming languages (as in, new to you). For some reason playing with programming languages that are new to you is much more fun than programming in some language you already know.

SanjayUttam··on How I built 7books in under 4 weeks
Great job taking into account you learned along the way...but most of all, kudos for sticking with it. Sometimes, that is the most difficult part.

Love the simplicity of the site, as well. Good luck.

SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: Why Don't HN stories open up in a new tab?
Is right-clicking and selecting "open in a new tab" that much more difficult? (FF 3.6.X). You're clicking a mouse button either way...
