Sakiina_··on Show HN: Amazon Search on Steroids
LOVE this! Thank you for sharing.

I've wondered, is there a way to combine book format searches? Books have Paperback AND Audio CD, for example?

Sakiina_··on Hyperloop Technologies, a startup trying to build the Hyperloop
If the Hyperloop had a very predictable timeline compared to some feight or other transport, it might make more sense to use it, if the lower deviation from leadtime lead to reduced safety stock inventory costs.
Sakiina_··on Calculus Learning Guide
This looks amazing, and is so timely! I'm taking a supply chain management class. Though the pre-reqs said basic algebra was fine, they mention a lot of Calculus and I feel like I'm not fully understanding the material without it.

One of my biggest frustrations about learning math is that I don't get the concept, and it makes it hard for me to just work through equations. So your approach looks fantastic to me. The motivation level and how much time is available-- that's exactly what I need. The 1 minute breakdown was perfect. I learned something immediately, and more importantly-- I was then excited and intrigued about learning.

I seriously can't thank you enough for this.

Sakiina_··on How good is your French accent?
That's interesting... I've had positive experiences when I've visited. I've heard from a lot of Americans that they are treated rudely, even when they attempt to communicate in limited French. I had several years of it, though I was rusty when I went to France, but despite my mistakes I felt I was treated very warmly and they seemed to enjoy indulging my attempts to use the language.
Sakiina_··on iPhone SE
I'm a woman with small hands, and I hardly ever use the reach-ability feature on my 6S Plus. I don't seem to notice that I can't type one-handed, I just type holding it and use the other hand to peck, but I love the larger screen size. It's very comfortable for me and you couldn't pay me to go back to a smaller size.

tl:dr; we all have our individual preferences. Glad there's now products for us all.

Sakiina_··on An Ode to the Rice Cooker
I bought this microwave rice cooker at TJ Maxx, that was marketed by Jamie Oliver for awhile.

Love the thing. It has ridges in the ceramic to mark the measurements. I put in the rice, fill to the line with water, microwave for 5 minutes, let stand for 10, and boom, perfect rice.

I tend to use that thing more than my rice cooker, it's easier to clean.

Sakiina_··on Apple Letter on iPhone Security Draws Muted Tech Industry Response
This is good to know. Might tempt me back to Firefox from Chrome.
Sakiina_··on TSA can now force you to go through body scanners [pdf]
I once went to the SLC airport with slightly damp braided hair. I went through the scanner. A TSA agent pulled me aside for a patdown. She did it quickly, sighed with relief, and said, "Oh, it's just your hair. It showed up on the scanner as a weapon."
Sakiina_··on Macbook charger teardown: surprising complexity inside Apple's power adapter
It is fairly rigid, but there's some flex. It just seems to make it so there's not such a sharp "curve", if you will, if you wrap the cable, at the end, where it seems to fray the most, and where I noticed the most wear.

Anyone here heard of the Magsafe saver?

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/lightning-magsafe-saver-p...

This is what I got-- took an eternity to get to me, but it works well enough. I wrap my cables. I had my Macbook Pro for two years, abused it, charger was fine. I sold it with the Macbook when I moved back Stateside after living abroad.

My next charger broke, because my kitten decided it made a great teething chew. Cha-ching. $80. I noticed a bit of wear, so I got the dinky plastic protectors. They seem to be working well. I use it on my lightning cable, too.
