Sabrosa··on Whats the most inspirational quote you ever heard?
He had disciplined his body to hardship, his appetite to need, his thought to fact, his tongue to silence. He was “the first to enter the battle,” said the hostile Livy, “and the last to leave the field.”

Sabrosa··on Ask HN: what is the most inspiring entrepreneur story ever?
Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, and Jay Z are all pretty inspiring.

Sabrosa··on Ask HN: side projects on resume?
What would qualify as a "bad" side project in your opinion? Porn? Bad code? Just plain weird? (Not that mine are any of these, just wondering)
Sabrosa··on Ask HN: How to become a renaissance man?
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm not wealthy by any means, so income is definitely going to be an issue. But I don't have very many expenses or responsibilities (yet), so it's not too difficult to live cheaply on 20-30k a year.
Sabrosa··on Ask HN: how to get the most out of college?
Thanks for the responses everyone. They've been very helpful.
Sabrosa··on Ask HN: how to become technical in 2-3 years?
Well, yeah, I'd like to get out there ASAP. But there is nothing out there like my idea, and more importantly, it's not a new problem. So I don't think an extra 6 months will kill me - if it were that hot, someone would have done it already.
Sabrosa··on Ask HN: how to become technical in 2-3 years?
Wow, a developer job? Impressive. What was your background before then?
Sabrosa··on Ask HN: how to become technical in 2-3 years?
1. I would say that I am more of a creative person (right brained). I almost went to design school a few years ago (switched to philosophy at a state school.) I'm terrible at math. Yet, somehow I am really, really good at logic. Perhaps I just don't think in numbers.

My memory skills (specifically, spatial memory) are also top-notch. I've never set out to learn a language, other than Spanish years ago in high school. I also used to be a very good chess player.

My parents were computer consultants (programmer and biz dev/design) so I've always been great with computers. Just not from the programming angle.

2. That makes sense and echoes what I've read/heard, thanks.

Sabrosa··on Ask HN: how to become technical in 2-3 years?
Hmm. Perhaps I was not as over-optimistic as I initially thought.
Sabrosa··on Ask HN: how to become technical in 2-3 years?
Thanks. 10 years is a bit too long, but very useful nonetheless!
Sabrosa··on Ask HN: launching a startup but still having a life?
Yeah, I agree entirely with the initial work. I don't have a problem buckling down (in one place) for the next 6-12 months and getting the product launched.

The issue, I think, is if I can actually run it from abroad, after it's been launched. Or rather, if it's even worth trying to manage it part-time - perhaps I'd be better off just focusing on it 100% for the next 1-2 years, and then see what happens.

(My apologies for not being clear in the initial post.)

Sabrosa··on Ask HN: launching a startup but still having a life?
That is a possibility. But the idea is more to go wherever you want and run a startup simultaneously - being able to manage it anywhere that has an Internet connection.
