SCAQTony··on Car Hackers Are Out for Blood
After reading this article my next car is going to be a hybrid with no subscriptions. The average car costs a year's income for most people. Charging a customer a subscription fee is nothing short of a perpetual lease. When you buy something it ought to be yours.

SCAQTony··on Our Self-Driving Cars Will Save Lives, but They Will Kill Some of You First
Perhaps better rapid transit could be quicker and safer than driving in amy form. Perhaps designers should design cities around rapid transit rather than building rapid transit after the cities have been built.
SCAQTony··on Bach – maestro of more than music
In the movie "Tar" there is a sequence where Tar explains why Bach is so powerful and while playing one of his pieces, (possibly Brandenburg concerto) explains thatch pece is a conversation with itself. Brilliant!

SCAQTony··on The Psychopathic Path to Success
TLDR; soft pedaling psychopathy as a de facto asset. IMO, Yes, "socially high functioning" psychopaths live among us but, more likely than not, they don't care much about anyone in their orbit and that should always be a red flag; unless they are an injury attorney working on your case.

How about this gem: "The idea that some psychopathic traits could be positive does not sit well with everyone." I agree 100%

NPR did a similar story titled: "Is There Such A Thing As A 'Good Psychopath'?

"...Andy is a British Special Air Service veteran and novelist; Kevin is an Oxford University psychologist. Kevin studies psychopaths. Andy says he is a psychopath.

Their checklist of psychopathic traits includes: charisma, charm, coolness under pressure, fearlessness, focus, impulsivity, lack of conscience, mental toughness, reduced empathy and ruthlessness...."

SCAQTony··on Marijuana addiction: those struggling often face skepticism
I should have been more clear: Physical addiction is when sickness, pain or impairment demands that you get your fix or possibly die. Example: "...benzodiazepines can kill you. This type of withdrawal can cause seizures, which increase your risk of life-threatening harm. It can also cause psychosis, which alters your perception of reality."

When an individual, who has chronically misused alcohol, suddenly stops or drastically reduces, they can experience a combination of withdrawal symptoms—both physical and emotional—that can range from mild to severe, and in rare cases, can be life-threatening."

https://americanaddictioncenters.org/withdrawal-timelines-tr...

Psychological addiction: "...Psychological dependence on drugs or alcohol is the emotional, motivational, and mental addictive qualities that come with substance abuse. ..."

SCAQTony··on Marijuana addiction: those struggling often face skepticism
I spoke with a rehab specialist and he mentioned that since cannabis is oil based, there is no physical withdrawal symptoms as there are with other opioid products. This is due to taking weeks to get cannabis out of your system. Thus, it is often argued that it is not physically addictive but rather psychologically addictive.

SCAQTony··on The Role of Diet on the Gut Microbiome, Mood and Happiness
I was disappointed how vague carbs were defined, but I suspect we can all agree the best diet for an omnivore is the least processed food is the best choice. Anything that comes in a box or can should be suspect. Soup is best when the broth is made from leftover chicken bones and the rest of it with chicken meat and raw veggies. Fruit is better than candy, fish is better than bacon. YMMV

SCAQTony··on Subterranean Treasures: Cormac McCarthy’s late style
My mileage varies, I feel independent cinema is practically non-existent while Marvel, Fast and Furious, Star Wars and other franchise properties are sucking the oxygen out out theaters and streamers.
SCAQTony··on Subterranean Treasures: Cormac McCarthy’s late style
Same with music, cinema, theater, and fine art! Yes, fine art, too.
SCAQTony··on Nations reach accord to protect marine life on high seas
In regards to Boris Johnson and Gavin Newsom, IMO that is a straw man argument. You talking hypocrisy and now not about illegal fishing. This is about protecting ocean resources and there is de facto evidence China is not. If the United States and the EU buying illegally caught fish. please post a link so it can be investigated and prevented. As for China, they have overfished their waters and there is de facto evidence that China is depleting populations of over 90 other countries: https://www.eastasiaforum.org/2022/08/03/chinas-efforts-to-r....
SCAQTony··on Nations reach accord to protect marine life on high seas
Your analogies don't wash! Westerners fish legally! How about telling China to fish legally? Here is list of just a few territories, "just" eighty of them, where they have illegally fished: https://www.tibetrightscollective.in/news/new-report-shows-c....

And this is how fishing legally is done: https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/national/seafood-commerce-tra....

SCAQTony··on Tesla calls self-driving technology 'failure,' not fraud
I would venture to say that attempting to climb Mount Everest and failing but saying you had indeed climbed Mount Everest would be a fraud. How many times did Elon Musk say he climbed "Mount Everest" or "we have a fully self driving car now" when Tesla didn't?
