RyeCombinator··on Nebula is not the fastest mesh VPN, but neither are the others
I respect the work that Ryan and the team is putting out. Excited to see what's coming next for Nebula.
RyeCombinator··on What it was like working for Gitlab
".. also had a tendency to listen more to complaints on Hacker News than internal complaints"

This all sounds too familiar.

RyeCombinator··on Privacy focused platform Skiff is joining Notion, Skiff to be sunset
Too bad, really enjoyed using skiff.

RyeCombinator··on Linear CEO alleges Carta mishandled sensitive cap table data
Took a quick look on here https://carta.com/careers/

"Carta is a place where everyone can be the best version of themselves."

If this is the best version of the current CEO I can't imagine what the day to day looks like.

RyeCombinator··on Some advice I would give to a junior DevOps Engineer
To be blunt I wished more DevOps had common sense.

DORA metrics don't mean anything if we are underperforming as a company and losing money.

RyeCombinator··on Some advice I would give to a junior DevOps Engineer
That is so 2014, platform engineering is the new thing now.
RyeCombinator··on ArgoCon – Vendor-neutral Argo-focused Event
Totally, then you have argo rollouts, argo workflows, argo events, and now kargo https://github.com/akuity/kargo

They're encouraging adoption of the entire stack, which is interesting on its own.

Argo has arguably done a much better job selling themselves with all the resources poured into their marketing.

RyeCombinator··on The Twelve-Factor App (2011)
Thought we are up to 15 now? https://domenicoluciani.com/2021/10/30/15-factor-app.html
RyeCombinator··on Building SRE from Scratch at Coinbase During Hypergrowth
Curious if some of the hypergrowth from this inadvertently lead to the 65M datadog bill.
RyeCombinator··on Tell HN: Modern Is Not Better
I like the term as it brings excitement. To me modern just means new. Sure, maybe these things haven't been battle tested or widely adopted but they still have a place. The last thing we want is to be stuck with something legacy and unable to progress.

As with all things YMMV. I like having the flexibility of reaching into the toolbelt and having all the tools available, but you can be sure I'll pick the best tool for the job.

RyeCombinator··on The Musk Algorithm
I read it as a satire
RyeCombinator··on A Brief, Incomplete and Mostly Wrong DevOps Glossary
Data Mess*
RyeCombinator··on A Brief, Incomplete and Mostly Wrong DevOps Glossary
I see this one a lot.

Anti-Patterns - Whenever there are difference in opinions, everyone else's ideas become anti-patterns.

RyeCombinator··on My solopreneur story
These stories are reminding me of the "Doctors hate this one trick!" Ads in the 90s. Or the influencers who start selling content, dropshipping tricks or ebooks on how they have succeeded.

There's a lot of merit for entrepreneurs sharing their journey, like a lot of the other comments here I just wished it was less about being "successful" or making money.

RyeCombinator··on Bitwarden login down due to Azure outage
Anti public cloud here as well
RyeCombinator··on Issues Connecting to Azure SQL Databases in East US
Same here. Having issues with the failover.
RyeCombinator··on Skip the API, ship your database
But it's free.
RyeCombinator··on Ask HN: Why do many CS graduates lack foundational knowledge?
I think the crux of the issue is as part of hiring, we expect folks to memorize knowledge from school. What I personally try to look for is candidates with the aptitude to learn quickly and apply that knowledge to solve problems.
RyeCombinator··on Bitwarden PINs can be brute-forced
