>I do not think it is impossible to build an open source business (I think Wordpress is an example), and I do not need to raise VC.
Is the right market here not everything like A16Z told you? The market for wordpress is crazy large with several blog platforms seeing 100+ million dollar exits and it seems no one who gets in this space fails--clearly the market is large.
I also look at other open source projects that have "made it" and they just seem to be tackling bigger markets than you are. Is there a chance the market of what you're doing just seems big to you because of personal interest in the product? (Not trying to be inflammatory with that comment)
Considering who these 2 people were and their contributions, it wouldn't make any sense for them to hurriedly remove them. (One was also a RethinkDB developer). That is, if the "continuity plan" were just gifting it to the community.
It's all speculation but I think it paints a clear picture. I have been doing a pulse check on RethinkDB / Horizon for a while so I've been watching this pretty closely.
This is a funny assertion.
I've used a microphone before, I've used headphones before, and I've used Siri before.
Call me brazen but I believe I can imagine the advanced world that will exist post Apple wireless earbuds, dual beaming microphones and all.
You seem really impassioned about for a product that you also haven't used and the media has generally laughed at and dismissed.
You also didn't actually respond to my main point about them, that Siri never delivered on its value proposition. If it had, it might be considered a great product.
Siri never delivered on what was promised--part of the reason the microphone in the new wireless earbuds is so laughable.
Apple currently has no answer to Allo or chat bots in general.
>For example, see the article floating a few weeks ago on Medium (I think) on how Apple was embedding ML in everything.
Plans are easy to talk about. You seem to want to give Apple a lot of credit for things going on behind closed doors.
As far as the consumer can see, they have fallen behind.
Look at the Jetbrains products. They make many open source IDEs feel janky, broken, and non-cohesive in comparison. Some problems aren't solved eloquently by being loosely community owned; sometimes you need a paid, focused group.
