RockRobotRock··on Google Has Most of My Email Because It Has All of Yours (2014)
It's nice to feel like you have some semblance of control in your life, even if it's in a very small way. Everyone has to draw the line between security and convenience somewhere, but I still feel catharsis when I see someone taking a stand and doing the hard thing, even if I myself choose not to do that.

What do you mean? Aren't you looking at it right now?

RockRobotRock··on 4chan Sharty Hack And Janitor Email Leak
What is "a lot of attempts"? I'm no expert in cryptography, but there's many orders of magnitude difference between a distributed bruteforce of a known hash, and bruteforcing over the web.

Great analogy. Expensive toys that look impressive but you'll spend 90% of your time fiddling instead of getting anything useful done with it.

RockRobotRock··on Bigscreen Beyond 2
I'm just pointing out different options that exist. Virtual Desktop is WiFi only but ALVR can do either.

If you're not capped by bandwidth because you can hardware encode into H265 or AV1, it shouldn't make a difference (besides the bugs and software quirks in both programs)

RockRobotRock··on Bigscreen Beyond 2
With ALVR you can make a tunnel over usb with ADB.
RockRobotRock··on Facebook to stop targeting ads at UK woman after legal fight
Plenty of rage bait exists in hobbies too. There’s an entire subreddit for that. HN isn’t immune to that too obviously.
RockRobotRock··on IronRDP: a Rust implementation of Microsoft's RDP protocol
Do you think it's good enough for "business"? I pay too much for screenconnect and absolutely hate it, but it does usually just work.
RockRobotRock··on IronRDP: a Rust implementation of Microsoft's RDP protocol
If you got remoteFX on RDP working, would the difference be that large for gaming?

One feature I really want is clipboard sharing that works as well as it does on RDP/Parsec.

Would like to add my personal experience: I get way more spam iMessages coming from random Apple IDs than I do spam SMSes.

It is an interesting problem, but that annoyed me a bit because it's so brazen.

RockRobotRock··on ESP32 WiFi Superstitions
I think I understand you. That functionality doesn't exist in ESP32 Arduino tool chain without more work/more code. Their hobby level perspective is valuable to other hobby level engineers who want a solution.
RockRobotRock··on ESP32 WiFi Superstitions
Personally, I don't use multiple APs with overlapping SSIDs, but if I did than I can see how it would be easier to deal with the logic from the AP management side rather than the client. It's also nice to not have to re-connect IoT things if/when you add or change your APs.
RockRobotRock··on ESP32 WiFi Superstitions
Who wants to deal with writing that logic for a hobby project? That doesn't sound fun at all.

Sounds like a "good enough" shitty solution to me, which is kind of the whole point of DIY.

RockRobotRock··on Switching to BunnyCDN in Less Than 2 Hours
Regardless of that, I’m always happy to see people try and free themselves from the increasingly centralized nature of the web.

Wow, that's pretty extreme. Maybe we can land somewhere in the middle here?

RockRobotRock··on Crossing the uncanny valley of conversational voice

When I meet people in VR who are ESL, I can tell based on their accent and mannerisms that they learned English by playing video games with westerners or watched a lot of YouTube.

Do we really want to dilute the uniqueness of language by making everyone sound like they came out of a lab in California?

RockRobotRock··on Troubleshooting: A skill that never goes obsolete
I have found myself to be someone that loves learning a little bit about various tech disciplines, but I've ended up as a "master of none" because I get bored quickly. Any advice for a career path that would reward such a thing?
