RedShift1··on LabPlot: Free, open source and cross-platform Data Visualization and Analysis
I'm running it on Windows
RedShift1··on FFmpeg 8.0
Yes. It works amazingly well for ffmpeg.
RedShift1··on FFmpeg 8.0
I'm ok with regex, but the ffmpeg manpage, it scares me...
RedShift1··on LabPlot: Free, open source and cross-platform Data Visualization and Analysis
I installed it and the only choice I got for selecting a database was SQLite
RedShift1··on LabPlot: Free, open source and cross-platform Data Visualization and Analysis
Unfortunately the only database it supports is SQLite, I really wanted to hook this up directly to a database or REST API. Going back and forth between exporting files and importing them into LabPlot is just too much work...
RedShift1··on Vendors that treat single sign-on as a luxury feature
They still make new DVD's?
RedShift1··on The Windows 10 emoji picker has been broken for a month
Please run sfc /scannow and try again

Since Server 2012, some parts of server manager crash if you don't have your keyboard set to a qwerty layout. The bug is still there in later Server versions too.
RedShift1··on Show HN: AgentGuard – Auto-kill AI agents before they burn through your budget
Just be glad it's not AI based... :')
RedShift1··on Debian switches to 64-bit time for everything
What is the use of such high precision file timestamps?
RedShift1··on Debian switches to 64-bit time for everything
What makes you think filesharing is going to work any better on IPv6?
RedShift1··on BGP.Tools: Browse the Internet Ecosystem
That's a problem for the people in 5 years
RedShift1··on AI comes up with bizarre physics experiments, but they work
My best guess is that the edges are oriented such that at the tested frequencies they cause constructive interference inside the antenna therefore boosting the signal. The orientation is weird because that's probably the best way to make it work in all directions, if the edges were in a flat plane, the constructive interference would only work in a single direction.
RedShift1··on FCC to eliminate gigabit speed goal and scrap analysis of broadband prices
From what I can tell senate confirmation means nothing. They ask a bunch of questions to grill them but the answers do not matter, they get confirmed anyway so it's all show to me.
RedShift1··on If writing is thinking then what happens if AI is doing the writing and reading?
Sometimes people ask me "how do you know how to do that?" and the only thing I did was read the manual...
RedShift1··on Linux and Secure Boot certificate expiration
Which to me leads me to a bigger problem, UEFI is trash, too complicated, too bloated, too hard to implement all the various bits and pieces.

In my opinion the system firmware should do the absolute minimum possible. Find a piece of data somewhere that the processor can start executing, like in the BIOS days where it would just load in the first 512 bytes and start running that. Anything else like hardware configuration, power management, etc... should be left to the operating system.

RedShift1··on The Scourge of Arial (2001)
A terrible mistake.
RedShift1··on At Least 13 People Died by Suicide Amid U.K. Post Office Scandal, Report Says
Thanks
RedShift1··on HDD Clicker generates HDD clicking sounds, based on HDD Led activity
There's probably a way to do this in software? Like some cars simulating engine noises through the speakers...
RedShift1··on At Least 13 People Died by Suicide Amid U.K. Post Office Scandal, Report Says
So the errors could be down to using floats instead of decimal types?
RedShift1··on At Least 13 People Died by Suicide Amid U.K. Post Office Scandal, Report Says
What was the actual bug in the software that caused the accounting errors?
RedShift1··on Slack's 57MB 404 page
Teams is far worse than Slack though, an embarrassment for a billion dollar company. Think of the collective waste of time and electricity.
RedShift1··on Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY does not scale
I use polling with back off up to one minute. So when a workload is done, it immediately polls for more work. If nothing found, wait for 5 seconds, still nothing 10 seconds, ... until one minute and from then on it polls every minute until it finds work again and the back off timer resets to 0 again.
RedShift1··on Serving a half billion requests per day with Rust and CGI
Yep. ERP vendors are the worst offenders. Last deployment for 40-ish users "needed" an 22 CPU cores and 44 GB of RAM. After long back and forths I negotiated down to 8 CPU cores and 32 GB. Looking at the usage statistics, it's 10% MAX... And it's cloud infra so paying a lot for RAM and CPU sitting unused.
RedShift1··on Serving 200M requests per day with a CGI-bin
I would gladly spend a little more on hardware if it makes the code much simpler and easier to debug.
RedShift1··on JavaScript broke the web (and called it progress)
Yeah true especially if you were trying to use Typescript. Every npm update broke things.
RedShift1··on George Orwell's 1984 and How Power Manufactures Truth
Well if you don't like it you can just... Stop reading?
RedShift1··on Occurences of swearing in the Linux kernel source code over time
Pretty sure 99% of these are gonna be in the drivers and direct hardware interaction bits.
RedShift1··on Apple introduces a universal design across platforms
Anything that moves away from flat colorless rectangles is a good thing, I welcome this change.
