RedNifre··on Discussion: Reduce error handling boilerplate in Golang using '?'
(I'm not a Go programmer)

I find this a bit odd. Isn't the idea of the primitive error handling that it is obvious and easy, as in "functions can return multiple results, a popular pattern is to return the good result and the error as two separate nullable values of which exactly one will be not null, so you can check if err == nil."?

If you go with fancy error handling anyway, how is this '?' better than returning a Result and do something like foo().getOr { return fmt.Errorf("Tja: %v", err) }

But who rates the synthetic data? If it is humans, I can understand that this is another way to get human knowledge into it, but if it's rated by AI, isn't it just a convoluted way of copying the rating AI's knowledge?

That is incorrect, dolphins are unlikely to evolve hands and humanoids evolved hands before they became intelligent (probably to grab branches). It was very lucky that a good brain evolved in a body that already had hands.

I bought the 400 on a whim and it came in handy when both my main and space computer broke: If you connect a hard drive through a powered USB hub, you can actually use this for real work, albeit very slowly.

These days, I mainly use it as a Commodore 64: https://imgur.com/Afq9uFq

RedNifre··on 52 Factorial
Thanks for pointing this out, I did not know that there are other tarot decks (I only have this one https://steemit.com/software/@michaelzinn/store-text-in-a-de... )

I originally had planned to store other data as well (that's why it's called "CardFS"): With the bytes, there is another multiplier 3 in there, which is unused. My plan was to do 0=UTF-8 text, 1=raw bytes, 2=bitmap graphic, but I stopped working on it after I got the UTF-8 text working.

Excluding NUL characters would only up the byte count to floor(log_255(52!)), which is still 28 bytes (though it increases the unused multiplier from 2.99 to 3.1, which makes it possible to use all bytes in all three file types), but how would you then store texts that use fewer than the maximum number of characters? Fill it with spaces?

RedNifre··on 52 Factorial
The jokers are indistinguishable, so it's only 55 factorial divided by two.
RedNifre··on 52 Factorial
Not quite, because you won't be able to tell the deck orientation any more.
RedNifre··on 52 Factorial
Yeah, I actually implemented this some years ago here, for UTF-8 text: https://github.com/Michael-Zinn/cardfs

Works for Poker, Skat, Tarot and Quartett decks.

RedNifre··on Toothpaste Null-Terminator
Neat, but I prefer my own method:

1. Have two toothpastes (actually two of everything) 2. When one gets used up, remove the checkmark from my shopping list (just a simple checkmark list on my phone in Google notes) 3. When in the store, buy everything that's not checked on the shopping list

Works all the time, except during the CoVID toilet paper crisis, which made me increase my prepper level to 3 of everything.
