Not as quickly as your politicians are.
A holds gold.
B holds dollars.
C holds oil.
A trades B, gold for dollars. A holds dollars, B holds gold.
A trades C, dollars for oil. A holds oil, C holds dollars.
After your suggested trade result:
A holds oil.
B holds gold.
C holds dollars.
If there is no "middle man", party A gets oil, party C gets gold. Party B keeps their dollars. End result:
A holds oil.
B holds dollars.
C holds gold.
Assuming "B" is USA, USA doesn't get to export its inflation/funding for stimulus checks/student debt/pension crisis/(or in trump era - a wall that does nothing) away to "C", whoever that ends up being, meanwhile, Ghana gets the oil it wants, and "C" gets currency without having to pay for the choices of politicians they have no control over.
So in effect the NYT which have been an "important power center" of American media since the 1800's, decides that another entity that comes along with too much power needs to be "taken down a peg".
Its a power play to discredit a new entrant into a business sector that threatens the inheritors of the incumbents.
So call it vindication, but its only in the same vein of a third generation monarch trying to quell threats to his inheritance. But to that perspective I agree, its definitely the correct power move to keep threats from taking away the power one inherited.

Oh my! HackerNews has an escape hatch for banhammering something they idealogically don't like!
Thanks for making me aware.
> Twitter’s already headed down the uncool social media curve like Facebook before it. There will be an exodus, but it would have happened either way. Once the parents get on, it starts the decline. When the grandparents are there…
> The “political” polarization is part of it. The older folks bring it with them. The majority flock to sites for information and escapism. The back and forth is just exhausting.
> It’s clearer for geek sites. Slashdot died when it got corporate and the content went to crap. Digg was the same. Reddit’s in process except niches. It’ll be same here.
> For everything there is a season.
What you sound like:
Yes and there shall be an exodus from the Twitters.
The parents shall come in, then the grandparents shall follow. Once those generations arrive the decline shall start. Not before. Not long after. But right after the grandparents, whence they arrive.
The polarization shall induce the decline. This wrought on by the older generations. And this is when the majority shall flock to sites for information and escapism.
Just as Slashdot, and Digg, declined before it, so shall the Twitters decline as well.
For everything, there is a season.

With your prescience, you must be a billionaire. Why don't you just buy Twitter off of Elon?
Yes, we must crush all opposition so your side can have absolute power!!!
Let them speak?
Not one chance, where shall you draw the line? Where only your side wishes to draw the line, of course. Perhaps, the only choice then is to crush the other side, for if you don't they will use the forum for "nationalist and genocidal movements". So you see, they must be eliminated in their entirety. Wiped from the existence of all forums, wiped from participation in establishing truths. Or maybe, since they always seem to find support, always seem to find people willing to fight for the rights they represent, always seem to come back when you try to silence and silence and silence every mouth that exists, instead of repeatedly ineffectively trying to suffocate a voice that wishes to speak, maybe what you need to do is to eliminate them all, all of them from existence. This is the only way you will ever prevent genocide.
Yes, since you're going to bring up a generalization in my argument in order to dismiss the whole thing, let me clarify it with more words than would have been acceptable in the first post. There are free-speechly(for lack of a better word, since liberal means authoritatian these days) run subreddits as well authoritatively run subreddits. Hacker news is like a free-speechly run subreddit with moderation to reduce spam but not opposing viewpoints. A whole universe of subreddits out there. I should have been more careful to keep my argument less leaky, but largely most mainstream subreddits suffer from an ideology protecting regime.
Well run or not is not, that's a matter of opinion. You probably think those reddits you defend run by authoritarian reddit mods who believe in silencing "viewpoints dangerous to the reputation of their ideologies" is well run. I happen to think it approaches the fervor, passion, hope, zeal, and spirit of the third reich.
What are these ideologies? Ive already mentioned one. Communal vs Capitalistic beliefs. Reddit moderating is a job for people who believe in contributing to the community, and thats a good thing inherent to human nature, but a gaping flaw when we move so far past dunbars number that it wouldn't even register when looking at the whole. These very good ideological beliefs thus left unchecked in an environment it wasn't meant for transforms into the thing we see today where communal maintainers feel threatened by non-communal actors and often take the dark side of abusing their power to maintain order through authoritarian means. A complete removal of discussion of outside ideas because they threaten an ideology that only works when everyone plays along.
I'm not here to discuss that topic of communism/capitalism or any other "ideologies" though. Just here to point out that the rules that govern the system self selects personalities that gravitate towards ruling through certain means. That's the "conspiracy" that is observable in real time.
Hacker news doesn't suffer from this, thankfully, the moderators do not think its appropriate to manipulate or outright silence any viewpoints dangerous to the reputation of their ideologies. Which is why we're allowed to have these types of discussions here in the first place. On reddit, however, I have written statements that have been moderated away I presume "for the safety of the public" as if the public could not decide on its own. Don't assume that everybody on the planet agrees with that kind of sentiment. Go out there and talk to your right wing nutjob friends. They have differing opinions. Just because you don't see them on reddit doesn't mean they don't exist, nor that they are not normal people with normal opinions either.
You can label it a conspiracy theory if you want. But that doesn't eliminate the presence of the facts from which the conspiracy theories have arisen, nor does it eliminate the the presence of covered up removal of those facts for the sake of engineering truth.
You are just unaware of the world beyond the veil of your lived experiences. But it doesn't help that your emotions are so tied to your defense of your ego.
This is why reddit leans heavily socialist/communist/anti-capitalist (moderated by people who believe moderating for free is more important than a real job).
Its a rabbit hole to dive into, but once you dig deeper you realize just how much political manipulation is occurring, not just in reddit mind you.
Its tearing apart society.
Just avoid processed foods and exercise more.
Its innovations are the only ones that actually matter in the entire crypto space. All other cryptos are basically sticking spoilers and rims on a car and calling it an "innovation".
No, that's not an "innovation", that's just changing a few letters on a lower quality, more fragile, more defective product, making it spin faster and shinier, sprinkling it with technical gibberish and buzzwords, then marketing that as the next bitcoin. No.
Bitcoin was the innovation. Your cousin's off brand crypto? Thats just a scam.
Wonder how this has changed since the lockdown. I bet its wildly different, probably a lot more is my guess.
> I don't want to share the answer
I'm not here to win arguments. No. I wont be "getting to the point" because I'm going to keep it for later.
I don't see why this is a problem, but if you want to use this as an argument, then go for it.
("Actual value" in dollar terms I assume? correct me if I'm wrong)
Since I'm not going to be giving away the answer, I want you to at least ask yourself:
Does the practice of pressing buttons and printing dollars provide value at the value the units represent?
And since your concern seems to be the environmental cost of bitcoin mining, what are the environmental costs to pressing buttons on a computer adding dollars into a digital dollar network along with running printers to create a few sheets of paper money?
Are there any environmental costs beyond the electricity that runs the printers and the computer and the trees cut down to print the money on?
If so what would those environment costs be and where would they be coming from?
If not, where is the value of that dollar coming from to begin with?
100 people in a room. All of them might have bitcoin. None might have bitcoin. One might have bitcoin. Five might have bitcoin. 99 might have bitcoin. Two might have bitcoin. One guy might have heard of bitcoin.
Good luck rubber hosing their bitcoin.
And so are you. Doesn't matter if you don't actually have a bitcoin. Lack of provability means the attacker says you have a bitcoin so therefore you have a bitcoin.
You are pinata by decree of the assailant and nothing else. Therefore due to the
> Lack of provability means the attacker may never believe you, in which case you’re now dead as well as broke.
... regardless of whether or not you owned any bitcoin.
Which means everyone regardless of owning or hating bitcoin are now dead because gangmembers say everyone they say so has bitcoin now has bitcoin. I guess we're all dead.

> If someone has a monopoly on violence, they can pre-commit to massive retribution against anyone who does this. They also get to define what money is, and have a reason to want to.
And they can also decree who is evil and must be purified. Wether its afghanis, or uyghurs, or jews. They can also decree users with names staring with ben need to be tickle tortured for 20 years.
> If nobody has a monopoly on violence, nobody is working minimum wage at Wendy’s because there is neither a minimum wage nor a Wendy’s nor a society capable of supporting a Wendy’s.
You're getting into economic theory here, which theorists have written volumes of books about, but the short of this is that you're reaching for conclusions without any supporting arguments.
Which means gang members are suddenly going to torture anyone who lives in Beverly Hills because they must have a bitcoin.
Assuming you are on tech worker salary, you should be buying guns to protect yourself from these gang members who are coming after the bitcoin they assert you have which they know you do because they said so.
Also keep in mind, some of the poorest people are the ones that yolo invest in crypto and post instagrams of lambos they rent. Gang members are gonna have one heck of a time trying to get those people's bitcoin before realizing the upside down toothless crypto guru actually controls nothing and is actually deep in the red. Which is to say, public appearances are not indicative of true wealth.
So here's the question, what metrics are you looking for as a torturer looking for torture acquired bitcoin? Lambos on instagram? Three story homes in beverly hills? Jpegs of a monkey on a twitter profile?
The reason I say that trying to pry bitcoin out of someone that has it properly guarded is like walking around the earth tapping rocks hoping to find one that turns into gold is because it requires mind reading technology that hasn't been invented. Its a losing game that puts the assailant at legal risk for close to little chance of winning anything at all. Huge downside, practically zero upside.
I'll admit to one thing though. We are going to see more and more and more of these torturers or scammers or crypto criminals and they are going to try harder and harder and harder. But again, properly defended means huge downsides and practically zero upside for them. But its not gonna stop them from trying, and its not gonna stop the hordes of scammers and torturers and crypto criminals from coming.
When the music stops, your account in the global open distributed ledger is stored in hundreds of thousands of harddrives distributed evenly throughout the entire free world.
And when the music starts again, your account is still exactly where it was when it stopped, available to you wherever you want to go in the free world.
Keep in mind, no one knows if this rock prints money or if that other rock prints money. One of the rocks you've been told can print money but you dont know which one. How many rocks are you going to whack? or maybe its just easier to drive an uber and make money.
No there isn't, because you don't know how much I have. I can always give up some and claim I gave up everything. To do what you claim you literally need to be omniscient. And if you are, then at that point you wouldn't be prying it from me.
