Rackedup··on Ask HN: What's the simplest way to store email collected from a landing page?
Self-hosted PgSQL?

Or even SQLite maybe but concurrent writes might become an issue if you get lots of traffic...

Rackedup··on Number of teens using Facebook crashes as YouTube becomes platform of choice
My kids under 10 never used FB but they do have an Oculus, unfortunately.
Rackedup··on Xbox has accused Sony of paying Game Pass 'block fees' to developers
PC/Windows? or PC/Linux?
Rackedup··on Inflation drops to zero in July due to falling gas prices
But they do manipulate the rules frequently to make it seem like the inflation is not as bad as it seems...
Rackedup··on Judge rules Walgreens contributed to San Francisco’s opioid crisis
I would think the doctors would be more responsible with those prescriptions...
Rackedup··on What are you supposed to do with old clothes?
> Basically, don't buy so many clothes to begin with. And then you don't have to dispose them.

I bought barely any clothes in years, but how are you going to follow fashion like that? /s

Rackedup··on Disney surpasses Netflix in global paid streaming subscribers
Since you have the Verizon Unlimited plan, Verizon can afford to pay Disney for you (that plan, and Verizon isn't cheap).
Rackedup··on Man who built ISP instead of paying Comcast $50K expands to hundreds of homes
Are you saying that Comcast provides decent customer service? because I think it is probably the first or second reason everyone hates them... another one could be the doubling cost yearly unless you call them and are serious about cancelling.

Where I'm at Comcast is very reliable but I've had different experiences.

Rackedup··on Inflation drops to zero in July due to falling gas prices
Maybe by their metrics... here it sure isn't like that.

At least I could sell the car I bought 2 years ago for more then $2k then what I paid for it... usually it would have lost at least $5k in value.

Rackedup··on Stringbike: Benefits (2020)
A belt system is simpler and probably lasts longer (but not as long as a chain)
Rackedup··on Ask HN: Is it possible to create ultraviolet cloth dyes
"Our translucent glow ink cannot be seen in daylight but glows green in the dark" it might glow under black light too

Rackedup··on Electric Vehicles Are Going to Suck; Here's Why [video]
Elon did try to put one in Teslas at the beginning though...
Rackedup··on Ask HN: Why there are no infinite number of flies in a room?
If you leave your windows open with no screen, they come in and go out... You would probably end up seeing about as many flies as you see outside, unless you have some rotting meat in your kitchen or something similar.
Rackedup··on Electric Vehicles Are Going to Suck; Here's Why [video]
"You need a transmission" -> luckily, no
Rackedup··on Gmail Dynamic Email (a.k.a. AMP for Email)
Being static is one of the main quality of email...
Rackedup··on Elon Musk sells $6.9B worth of Tesla stock
Getting ready for Twitter?
Rackedup··on Tornado cash takedown and its repercussions
Financial privacy should be a thing... It's very similar to what cash brings.
Rackedup··on “It’s time for Apple to fix texting”
That is just ridiculous.

I don't get random spam on Matrix/Element... it even handles video calls and more...

Do you get spam calls on your iphone?

Rackedup··on An incident impacting 5M accounts and private information on Twitter
It's one of the many reasons why I don't like to associate my phone number with an account for 2FA and such... Or any other information that they don't need (like name, etc...).

I think that Google recently forced most accounts to give a phone number even if you don't use 2FA (probably for ID purposes). That's one reason why I like this service: https://www.emailnator.com/, instead of using my own gmail address for signups.

Anonimity is going down the toilet really fast in the US...

Rackedup··on Crypto and the US Government are headed for a decisive showdown
The U.S. government is doing something similar to the boiling frog trick... (one law after another to make crypto less useful)
Rackedup··on Official Firefox add-on bringing offline translation support to Firefox
Maybe not in this case... but generally, it appears to be true for most extensions.
Rackedup··on GitHub deleted accounts of people who contributed to Tornado Cash repos
It could be used for privacy purposes also...
Rackedup··on GitHub deleted accounts of people who contributed to Tornado Cash repos
You have to go through the big banks so that they can get their fees (but you have to launder huge amounts, too).
Rackedup··on Some Epson printers are programmed to stop working after a certain amount of use
Really happy with my HP LaserJet Pro M15W Printer so far... Bought it only about 2 years ago but I print almost daily and didn't even have to replace the toner.
Rackedup··on Tesla Falsely Advertises Autopilot, Full Self-Driving Tech: California DMV
But Tesla didn't see the consequences, yet.
Rackedup··on Official Firefox add-on bringing offline translation support to Firefox
Firefox Android blocks the vast majority of addons by default for some reason... you have to create a collection, add the add-ons you want to the collection and then setup Firefox to use that collection. They made it as painful as possible.

It didn't used to be like that, all addons were easily accessible in the Fennec engine (I think around v68)... Fennix is the problem.

Rackedup··on [dead]
> It takes an estimated 1,449 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy to mine a single bitcoin. That’s the same amount of energy an average U.S. household consumes in approximately 13 years.

I consumed 420 kWh last month (cost $74).... so it would be more like 3.5 months and not 13 years... and more like less then $255 total... what am I missing? Did they forget a few zeros somewhere?

Rackedup··on Google Trying to Solve a UUID
Its a public messaging system... Not sure why they get offended when I ask publicly... Either don't answer or do... Why waste time and ask me to use email instead... I'm not going to use email to communicate about a communication forum.
Rackedup··on Google Trying to Solve a UUID
> For some users

a number probably infinitely small... Google might be the only user in this case

Rackedup··on Microdosing with psilocybin mushrooms: a double-blind placebo-controlled study
