RNAlfons··on File Pilot: A file explorer built for speed with a modern, robust interface
This is a really sexy explorer.

I love it. Love how snappy it is, love the thought that went into it, love the dark design. Awesome. I'll keep using the beta at work as long as I can but unfortunately I won't get funds to buy it for work. It's too bad that you can get updates only for one year with the normal license. Would have considered buying it for the price for private use but 200 is just too much for a file explorer.

RNAlfons··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
> if we can believe the inconsistent propaganda in that regard

How is anything about those fact "inconsistant" when besides a few fringe scientists, everybody in the sector knows that for a fact.

RNAlfons··on Show HN: I built a Jeopardy game maker with buzzer support
You should pitch this for the next Chaos Computer Congress. They used to play "Hacker Jeopardy" with some self hosted solution. Yours looks much better.
RNAlfons··on Kids Who Get Smartphones Earlier Become Adults with Worse Mental Health (2023)
They don't even need "mental health issues" because it just works. Give the toddler an iPad and it'll stop bothering you.

Scary stuff...

RNAlfons··on Twitter is now attention roulette and ultimately meaningless
Funny how I get the same thing in German including the German Fascists and Propagandists.

I wonder if it's because they're still all there while others left or if there is some kind of algorithmic intention behind it.

RNAlfons··on Ask HN: How to manage phones and PCs for elderly parents?
Linux Mint.

I moved my parents to it from Windows and they never realised since they only use Thunderbird and Firefox.

Never had any issues since then.

RNAlfons··on Threads on Mastodon and the bright future of the Fediverse
After the loss of Tweetdeck, which made Twitter/X quite useless for me, I switched over to https://mastodeck.com/.

It works quite well for me.

RNAlfons··on Notepad++: Help us to take down the parasite website
IrfanView has the same problem.
RNAlfons··on U.S. sues Apple, accusing it of maintaining an iPhone monopoly
People waved the EU case away with the same argument. Actually it is a kind of iArgument.

However nobody buys it besides their most loyal customers.

RNAlfons··on Russian troops use Starlink licensed and imported from Dubai
This is not a truck.

If your truck would have an extension cord going back to your factory so it can run and running the truck would be sanctioned, you could be blamed if you don't cut the cord.

RNAlfons··on Japan's airport control towers stop using 'No.1' instruction for plane takeoffs
Same thing here in German military where instead of saying "zwei" because it might sound like "drei", you say "zwo".

It's quite useful even though its a small problem compared to all those problems which happen because of the way you read numbers above 20. "Twenty one" becomes "one and twenty". It's not as bad as French but still a pain and I've seen Germans mixing it up also.

RNAlfons··on Austerity Is an Antidemocratic Strategy to Boost Capital
Being "transparent about their policies" doesn't mean that the voter understands them or their consequences.

This is just a fig leaf.

RNAlfons··on Fitbit fined $11M for misleading consumers about their rights under consumer law
> Even the Garmin stuff is problematic. I had a Garmin watch crap out entirely while up a mountain.

I switched into the Garmin environment some years ago. Have my second watch now and spread it all over the family. Never had I one person having any kind of issues with it and we have both outdoor and everyday models.

RNAlfons··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
>1. France isn't an isolated country.

What is this supposed to mean? Do you want to imply that the German Green party for example, dictates the politics in France??

> 2. That "lobby" is decades of various actvists fear-mongering and politicians afraid of unpopular decisions.

Nuclear is popular in France...your own quote says it.

Not wanting to live near a nuclear plant is hardly an argument against nuclear power itself. You are twisting the facts.

> Follow the link above for a description of anti-nuclear activism

I did. The newest info on this powerful lobby:

> In March 2014, police arrested 57 Greenpeace protesters who used a truck to break through security barriers and enter the Fessenheim nuclear in eastern France.

This is hilarious. THIS is supposed to be that powerful anti-nuclear lobby in France? 57 Greenpeace protesters? Are you joking?

RNAlfons··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
Overprovisioned renewables? Hilarious sentence :D

As I have said: the transformation is not finished yet. Germany did almost nothing during Merkels time and renewables have still generated more than they lost due to the shutdown of nuclear.

Meaning: Germany would STILL burn coal even if they'd have kept nuclear.

It's not that hard to understand if you know the facts and the facts are that Germany has a law to phase out coal completely while expanding renewables. A law which few (no other?) countries even have. Even France will keep on burning coal when the last plant is closed in Germany.

RNAlfons··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
My claim is that the conspiracy theory that you shared here and which is based upon that scanned document is just that. A conspiracy theory.

I never said there were no anti-nuclear movement.

There are many and in every country they have their own reasons and are more or less influential. For example: there hasn't been a anti-nuclear movement as influential as it was in Germany. This is why Germany was able to replace nuclear with renewables and push it's development for the whole planet. However, no German politician participated in your conspiracy.

Your pitiful attempt at derailing only say something about yourself.

RNAlfons··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
> Funny how today they were burning 20GW of coal because they replaced 20GW of nuclear power with renewables.

This is a lie.

Germany has been reducing coal and will keep on doing so until there is none. It's a law.

https://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/156695/umfrag...

> Of course they had to. Because they don't have enough energy generation of their own when the day is like today: cloudy and quiet.

This is a lie also.

Germany is an energy export nation since 2002 even with the EEX trading you probably never heard of. https://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/153533/umfrag...

Funny indeed...

RNAlfons··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
What is this powerful anti-nuclear lobby in France supposed to be?

Please show us some sources.

RNAlfons··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
Neither you nor the blog post "just" do something.

You both imply a conspiracy resulting from this document. You have no proof for any connection to anything relevant going from that.

The SNR-300 story is also completely unrelated. You just stacked it upon the conspiracy theory.

RNAlfons··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
> Even now France's nuclear provides more energy than anything it has, and France routinely exports energy to Germany who have shattered their nuclear power plants and are now busy burning coal and importing electricity to cover the needs.

Adding to what cycomanic wrote already:

Germany has replaced what it lost on the nuclear shutdown with renewables years ago. They also reduced coal and even have a law to phase it out completely. The fact that Germany imported nuclear power doesn't say anything about the fact that they HAD to import it. Just like anyone connected to the grid, they buy when it's cheap and sell when it's expensive. Due to Germany's mix they're flexible there while France has to keep on running and selling as much as they can since they're losing money. See EDF.

They have other problems too: https://www.barrons.com/articles/nuscale-power-corp-investig...
RNAlfons··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
So if even THE nuclear nation on this planet "neglects" its reactors, wouldn't that be an argument against nuclear?

I mean, if that claim of negligance would be true which I doubt it is of course...those things grow old and France failed to diversify it's power generation in the last decades but hey...new ones are planned...maybe in a decade one will even be finished...

RNAlfons··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
Are you joking? This is a blog post by some guy from a venture which invests into nuclear outlining a conspiracy theory where the Nuclear Information Resource Service (NIRS), the Safe Energy Communication Council (SECC), and Greenpeace slowed down nuclear around the world? What?

Yes they are since Corona unfortunately.

However it's good for usual Doctors offices. It's terrible for Radiology Planning. Also many institutions just put a link to their homepage or phone number in there. This way they're on DL but don't have to deal with the calendar.

RNAlfons··on SumatraPDF Reader
Right now we switched back from DoctoLib to booking4med but we're using all kinds of RIS modules here.

What Data Warehouse software do you write for RIS? Maybe I can use it :D

...and yeah Radiology communities are rare. I'm still looking for one...if I have time.

medavis for example.

I know CGM from medico...their KIS is a nightmare. We have to communicate with it in hospitals. What an ugly monster and somehow no hospital IT is able to admin it properly.

RNAlfons··on SumatraPDF Reader
I work in Health IT here in Germany and for the past 3 years we've been "testing" those "smaller companies" for different parts of our business.

It's a mess. We've been paying them serious money for a product. We've never been warned that their product isn't finished yet or that we're the beta testers for the product they'll sell to other clients. Or that we have to invest our own personal and their time to fix their problems and talk to their useless support.

This has become a pattern and I'm done with it. We are slowly moving back to older and larger companies who actually do their work properly before they roll out products and updates.

RNAlfons··on Britain's roads can't keep up with our cars
I've also seen some kind of mad anti-movement recently here in Germany.

People started buying Pick-Ups. Huge US-style Pick-Ups...

I live in a big city here and seeing a single Pick-Up was something very special up until a few years ago. Now it seems it became a symbol of rebellion against the movement to car-alternatives and expansion of bike infrastructure.

RNAlfons··on AOL pretends to be the internet
I've been using AOL CD-codes up until the moment where I got my hands on some Compuserve code generator. The only cost which remained was for the local dial up. Good times. I personally thanked a Compuserve representative for their easy access at some fair. Didn't seem like he understood but I still felt better afterwards.
