Because of all these reasons I have stopped purchasing almost anything at all on amazon. Also, it's been like this for YEARS, they clearly don't have any interest at all in fixing it. They make more money the way it is. Nowadays, I try mostly just to buy direct from the company selling the product. Usually the cost is the same. It's slower, yes, and returns are more difficult, yes, but at least I know I'm getting the actual product and not a cheap ripoff that'll either fall apart or poison me.
hahaha, yes I should have I suppose! But that is honestly the first actual case of an update for a dumb screen doing something, so hey, learn something new every day.
Exactly this! I have the same lg oled and I love it. I don't think I've ever even seen the native ui (maybe when I first unboxed it?). I've never connected it to the internet, and don't ever plan on updating anything. What would a firmware update for a dumb monitor even do?
It really is shocking as you said. I think every single time I try to use the web on my phone, I think “how did this happen?” … because it truly is unusable. I was trying to read an article about a game my friend and I were playing and it had so many popups/popovers/ads/bullshit/etc and the worse thing ever where the page was jumping all over the place as I was trying to read it (what’s happening here? Other content loading in? It can’t know where my phone screen is though?). So I literally gave up, wrote it off as basically impossible to use. Went to the computer with Firefox and ublock and read the page. Unbelievable.
To others reading this: Please do spend as much effort as humanly possible to move people away to ANYTHING other than whatsapp. Signal is great, but anything other than a property owned and operated by facebook will help weaken them, which is better for the entire earth.
This very exact specific occurrence happened to me a while back and made me so livid I cold powered off the entire machine, downloaded Linux onto a flash drive from a different laptop, and have been running happily since. The forced auto reboot install of updates really pissed me off and then this forced ms account on install was the last straw. Haven’t used a Microsoft product personally ever since.
I agree with most of this except: On the desktop browser I still get recommendations in the sidebar for celebrity / politics / news bullshit despite not following any accounts close to these topics. I hate it. In the mobile official app I get just a shitload of ads I hate for all the same style stuff. It's just seemingly impossible to get rid of the outrage machine fully.
The only thing I pirate is movies / tv shows ... and it's extremely simple: because it's not humanly possible to purchase them digitally.
Games: yes. Music: yes. Books: yes. Magazines: yes. What happened to tv and film? Where are you all?
Let's say I want to purchase The Fifth Element and throw it on my plex server so I can watch it on vacation out of the country? How can I do that? The answer is simple: you cannot. So I pirate it. And enjoy watching it. If the industry WOULD provide me with some way to purchase The Fifth Element, get a high quality mkv or mp4 or whatever download of it, I would do it in an instant.
I have completely given up shopping for anything of any importance due to the counterfeit or stolen items. I ordered a wireless charging dock from Anker, a fully sealed box came full of C batteries. I ordered some drill bits after my old ones wore out after about a decade, the new ones lasted less than a month. Clearly counterfeit despite looking EXACTLY the same. It's just impossible now, so I just avoid them entirely and go straight to the manufacturer.
The answer to this also depends a lot on the ambient outdoors temperature. Horses can stay warm through the winter outside in almost any weather (down to single digits F easily). But in order to do so, they use their GI system like a furnace. So they basically are CONSTANTLY eating and pooping. So the colder it gets the more they eat.
Has anyone ever figured this out? It doesn't make it clear at all on the site. As someone who listens to spotify almost all day during working hours, I wonder how much this would cost me compared to the $5/month or whatever I pay now. I'm fine paying more if it goes to the artist, but for goodness sake you need to make it clear what this thing costs.
For some reason it won't let me reply to your newer message, there just is no reply button at all, very strange, anyway, putting my reply to your second message here.
Thanks so much for the info! I don't ever do calls on whatsapp, so this sounds absolutely amazing for me! I also see that I can bridge in slack as well so now all the sudden I may be able to bridge all my work stuff into one matrix instance and remove those apps I hate from my phone?!?!?!?! At least from an initial thought process this sounds amazing.
I don't run any linux servers at home, so I suppose if I got a hosted instance of a matrix server I could see if I could successfully bridge in these other things and give it a try. Thank you so much!
Wait a sec, are you telling me there's a way for me to participate in whatsapp conversations without actually having whatsapp installed on my phone? I am currently forced to use whatsapp by my work for supporting overseas live events, but I absolutely hate having anything related to facebook installed on my phone. Until now I just put up with it because I didn't know there was an alternative. Can you help me understand how this works?
that's exactly it. Of course there will be some people who turn their nose at outdoor construction work, but the much bigger reason is the pay is just not livable. In KY the average pay for a construction worker is $14 an hour. You can't buy a house or raise a family with that.
I don't understand this sentence. Google only has a single phone that has only been out for like 1 day now, the Pixel. And it's not even stock Android, it's got extra features that the stock Nougat doesn't have. Again though, I think this whole thing is moot, because lots of phones have roms on xda that is basically just stock android with no customizations, so just install that and be done with it.
I was going to point you to the Pure series of roms by Beanstown, but I don't understand your question... You don't want ANY custom stuff at all or features, then what's the point? Just install stock android...?
I'm close to the same. I can function on 7, but any less than that and I'm a basketcase, and really do honestly need 8 a day. I feel like people think it's a virtue or something if they can get 4 hrs of sleep and not fall down from exhaustion, but in reality it's so unhealthy.
