PunchTornado··on Google to shut down Google One VPN on June 20
still getting hits from IE users on my site. 69.71 million people around the world used Internet Explorer to access the web in 2021.
PunchTornado··on Google to shut down Google One VPN on June 20
https://killedbymicrosoft.info/

163 services killed by Microsoft. But they still didn't manage to kill Internet Explorer.

I don't know why Google gets the hate for killing things.

PunchTornado··on Google to shut down Google One VPN on June 20
I was surprised when they announced they're killing workplace. A lot of businesses relied on it.
PunchTornado··on Trillium, the sixth generation of Google Cloud TPU
Anyone know how this compares with latest nvidia?
PunchTornado··on Insatiable: A life without eating
One of those reads that changes your perspective on life in a way.
PunchTornado··on California exceeds 100% of energy demand with renewables over a record 30 days
how would this impact solar stock? to me it seems that the demand for solar will decrease.
PunchTornado··on California exceeds 100% of energy demand with renewables over a record 30 days
nice website, would be cool to see at EU level.
PunchTornado··on Can Demis Hassabis save Google?
I find Gemini the best. Paying the 20£ subscription for advanced. It's been almost 2 months since I opened chatGPT, gemini completely replaced it for me and I'm a happy customer.

Everyone has their preference and maybe some people like you prefer chatGPT, but the way google makes deals with other companies like apple and samsung, I don't see openai competing in the future.

PunchTornado··on Scientists have traced human tail loss to a short sequence of genetic code
Is that normal? I imagine the poor bastards wanted to put it on their CV for their next job.
PunchTornado··on OpenAI's "Own Goal"
but.... they say they are an NGO
PunchTornado··on OpenAI's "Own Goal"
none of these examples say that we are not in for the money or profit and under an NGO

If you read the article openai says that they are not in for the money and then proceed to be in for the money. Also, Ilya says to not change anything because it will hurt recruitment.

PunchTornado··on OpenAI's "Own Goal"
The perceived hypocrisy stems from the contrast between OpenAI's public statements about benefiting humanity and their actions, which reveal a profit-driven focus similar to Microsoft's. Unlike Microsoft, OpenAI lacks transparency about this core motivation. Microsoft is not bullshitting that they do AI for the common good under an NGO.
PunchTornado··on Microsoft strikes deal with Mistral in push beyond OpenAI
I find gemini advanced better than gpt4. it is my go to option now.
PunchTornado··on Sora: Creating video from text
Google, Microsoft and Facebook have capital and compute. That is not an OpenAI moat.

Facebook has Moat because of their social network. It is very hard to switch to another network. Google with search has no moat because it is easy to switch to a new search engine. OpenAI has no moat because it is easy to switch to a new AI chat once a better product becomes available. AWS has moat because it is hard to switch cloud providers. Apple has moat because people want to buy apple products. etc.

A moat can be seen where even if you have a worse product than the competition, or users hate you, they still use your products because the cost to switch is immense.

PunchTornado··on The math exams of my life
Makes me sad. None of these questions can ignite a passion for maths or connect maths to the real world.
PunchTornado··on Free unexpected MIT courses to kick start the new year
Why would you need it? How would you pass exams? Who would pay for a teacher reading your exam and ensure you don't teach.. etc.
PunchTornado··on The New York Times is suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement
I hope Microsoft ends up paying billions and billions in damages and similar lawsuits will follow.
PunchTornado··on If 95% doesn't count as a vote of no confidence, what number would?
I work as a company where the board or the investors fired the ceo. I was furious. We were chatting among employees how these guys are destroying our company and our ceo was great. In an employee vote, the ceo would easily get 90%.

3 months have passed now. We are sued for investor fraud. The company stock hit the ground. That ceo actually ruined the company, but us as employees didn’t know the facts.

PunchTornado··on Sam Altman, Greg Brockman and others to join Microsoft
Seems like a very big step down to them.
PunchTornado··on How to boss without being bossy
People should put effort in how they convey the message.

If they don't put it, they don't care about you.

A manager who doesn't care how he conveys the message, (or doesn't care how the same message is received differently by his different reports), doesn't care about his reports.

PunchTornado··on How to boss without being bossy
I disagree. No matter how much trust there is I accept nobody to tell me "I need you to do ..." or some other direct variant. Fortunately I encountered few bad bosses like this.

PunchTornado··on Sam Bankman-Fried Convicted
There was an article about how bankruptcy lawyers are charging 2000$ per hour + other expenses.
PunchTornado··on Can you use your "free will"? Try your hand
Hmm, I don't get it. The prediction was accurate 49% of the time, which is what I was expecting in a coin toss like this one. In which way does it predict the answer at step 1 if it's a binary choice with 50% accuracy?
PunchTornado··on OpenAI Finally Allows ChatGPT Complete Internet Access
My experience is different. I think Bard is giving better answers than chatgpt so I really use it daily even more than google search.
PunchTornado··on BioNTech presents positive phase 1/2 data for CAR-T cell therapy candidate
To create the antigen do we need to sequence every individual that received treatment? Is it a personal antigen for everybody?
PunchTornado··on OpenAI is too cheap to beat
I was using Bard and chatGPT in parallel, but lately I just default to Bard. To me it's a better model with much more accurate answers, while chatGPT just gives you bombastic words.
PunchTornado··on Mistral 7B
I think it won, but not by much. Also Mistral is a 7B, so just by being close to GPT4 is a success.
PunchTornado··on Speakers of different languages remember visual scenes differently
as my old fried Witty used to say, the limits of my language are the limits of my world.
