Prefinem··on The Last American Baseball-Glove Maker Refuses to Die
Why should you help someone in your family instead of some random person any where else?

Because their related? We all are at some level. Because they raised you (father and mother might count, but probably not cousins, nieces or nephews)

Prefinem··on Bitbucket is down
Same for me.
Prefinem··on ECMAScript 2017 Language Specification
Yes it does

Prefinem··on Ask HN: What's a side project you built to make money that hasn't?
I still do occasional work in ColdFusion so I thought it would be nice to have a Package Manager. So I went and built https://cfpm.io. We used it internally for a couple of things, but it never took off. Most likely because who uses ColdFusion still, or maybe it just wasn't easy enough to use.
Prefinem··on Show HN: Bringing Pull Requests to Ship, a macOS native client for GitHub Issues
Ran into this same issue.

Read here: https://www.realartists.com/docs/2.0/uninstall.html

It uninstalls them if you logout

Prefinem··on Show HN: Bringing Pull Requests to Ship, a macOS native client for GitHub Issues
Awesome. You guys are spot on
Prefinem··on Show HN: Bringing Pull Requests to Ship, a macOS native client for GitHub Issues
Just a side note,

It seems that if I manually remove them and then reinstall the app / reauthorize the app, the webhooks are not recreated.

Prefinem··on Show HN: Bringing Pull Requests to Ship, a macOS native client for GitHub Issues
Wow... thanks. I feel silly now.

I completely understand. Realtime is incredibly nice and offloading work does cost, which makes a subscription model required.

That being said (and this might not even be feasible from a cost / benefit view of things) but my use case would mostly be opening the app once a day to check for new issues or see what I need to work on next and then past that would be posting comments on issues, etc etc. Realtime isn't really a concern and my response times are the speed of me getting an email and then responding. So, point being, a non realtime / standalone product has value to me personally. Just to give you another perspective.

I probably wouldn't be saying this if my company used Github for managing things instead of just my personal projects, in which case, realtime would be very handy.

Prefinem··on Image Correction for Color Blindness
The first is an actual test meaning it's meant for someone who is colorblind to fail. The second is an example that some of those that failed the test, would have problems seeing.
Prefinem··on Show HN: Bringing Pull Requests to Ship, a macOS native client for GitHub Issues
No problem.

I should specify. I did get an error the first time it happened. Then, when I tried again, it failed and that's when I came across the issue stated above. I tried Force Quitting and trying again twice. It seemed like something got hung and it couldn't make the request after it failed the first time.

Prefinem··on Show HN: Bringing Pull Requests to Ship, a macOS native client for GitHub Issues
I think a standalone product would probably be a lot more powerful from a security standpoint if possible.
Prefinem··on Show HN: Bringing Pull Requests to Ship, a macOS native client for GitHub Issues
Thanks for looking into it. Like @NegativeLatency said, it would be nice for the UI not to lock up and if it does error, to a) let the user know, b) allow cancelling out or retrying.

I ended up having to Force Quit the app

@TheTon

Like another use said, I would rather pay once and receive updates than a monthly subscription. I know that you are using your own servers to pull information, but I don't know why that is even necessary. I would rather have an app that doesn't pass any information through a third party server.

I also ran into a problem when trying to create a milestone for a repo (this was the second milestone I was creating with the app) and it locked up.

Other than that, it's extremely nice, and if you ever made it into a one time purchase, I would probably pick it up right away.

EDIT: Just a couple of notes. I tried out a couple of other applications to compare features (since I can see how nice managing issues, etc from a single app is compared to the website) and I have to say that Ship is by far the nicest out of the bunch.

Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
I could. It’s just a simple Lambda function.

I will try and do so tomorrow.

Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
moment.js mostly
Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
Yup. Probably just step lightly out of that one. Already have too many irons in the fire
Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
I didn't even know that was possible...
Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
You know, I have no idea why I even checked for < 0 since it's seconds backwards since epoch. Just a mental snag I guess
Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
This should be fixed now. As others pointed out, had some bad validation
Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
Yup, good catch.
Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
Geo lookup on your IP to get a time zone. Easy to spoof with a proxy / vpn.
Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
Fixed. Silly me
Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
It does

Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
Wow... thanks for that. I had a silly check for length of unix time stamp (so it can handle things like Date.now())

Should be fixed now

Prefinem··on Show HN: An easy way to convert time
Creator here.

The API is definitely not useful for most programmatic things. Just a simple way to get the time if you don't have the ability to use bash or a programming language.

I mostly wanted a way to copy a timestamp and type in a url to get a human readable time in local time. (https://epoch.sh/1498769628)

Prefinem··on Ask HN: How was your experience with AWS Lambda in production?
Just a follow up, after the issue last week with AWS Lambda in East-1 (thursday I believe) VPC is not longer causing any additional overhead.

I am not sure what happened, but I had to move a couple of functions inside the VPC and our response times have remained the same.

Prefinem··on Ask HN: How was your experience with AWS Lambda in production?
When I initially set the up, there was no way to edit or delete them. I haven't messed with them since, although, I did just check and there aren't any step functions in my account so it looks like they deleted the old ones.

It may be time to test them out again, I just go bit pretty bad with the last time I implemented them and lost about a weeks worth of work because of it being un-usable.

Prefinem··on Ask HN: How was your experience with AWS Lambda in production?
Lambda is inside the VPC which means it can’t connect to the outside world without a NAT Gateway.
Prefinem··on Ask HN: How was your experience with AWS Lambda in production?
Just hit one of our test endpoints

Test #1 Lambda run time (140 ms) Total waiting time (354ms) Total time (358ms)

Test #2 Lambda run time (300 ms) Total waiting time (490ms) Total time (567ms)

Test #3 Lambda run time (139 ms) Total waiting time (479ms) Total time (485ms)

This is for a 20kb payload single request.

Stack: Custom Domain -> Cloudfront -> API Gateway -> VPC -> Lambda -> NAT Gateway -> ElasticSearch
