Pr0ject217··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
Thanks for supporting civil liberties.
Pr0ject217··on I hate soldering
Thank you!
Pr0ject217··on Googlebook
In practice I find the Gemini models to be the worst for coding and design.
Pr0ject217··on I hate soldering
Recommendations?
Pr0ject217··on Laws of UX
The irony is that the design and UX of the website is terrible.
Pr0ject217··on A sane but bull case on Clawdbot / OpenClaw
Perhaps it's marketing to attract those who wear sweatpants to school. The author's other posts are written normally.
Pr0ject217··on Why laptop support, why now: FreeBSD's strategic move toward broader adoption
They took an investment from a new startup (Quantum Leap Research) focused on national security.

Pr0ject217··on Linux kernel contributor swatted and handcuffed live on stream [video]
If it is not already, swatting someone should be considered a serious offense, like calling in a bomb threat. Baiting emergency police services to handle personal disputes is absolutely ridiculous.
Pr0ject217··on Show HN: iFixit created a new USB-C, repairable soldering system
lol
Pr0ject217··on ReMarkable Paper Pro
Can it be used completely offline, without an account, etc?
Pr0ject217··on Engineering over AI
I finished reading it, wondering the same thing!
Pr0ject217··on EUCLEAK Side-Channel Attack on the YubiKey 5 Series
Is that relevant? The secret is the value.
Pr0ject217··on Entering text in the terminal is complicated
Checked out the video. Looks cool!
Pr0ject217··on Show HN: ThreadQuilt: AI-Free Thread Aggregator
Just an FYI,

Throws a 500 and displays a stack trace of the server.

Pr0ject217··on Flameshot – Open-source screenshot software
Love it.
Pr0ject217··on Show HN: Markdown HN profiles at {user}.at.hn

Pr0ject217··on What happens in the brain to cause depression?
When a power supply gets old, wonky things start happening and the computer becomes unstable in weird ways. I am not sure the computer/power metaphors are the best fit.
Pr0ject217··on Llama3 implemented from scratch
It's the cool thing to do now...
Pr0ject217··on GPT-4o
"OpenAI is still working in GPT-4-level models."

This may or may not be true - just because we haven't seen GPT-level-5 capabilities, does not mean that it does not yet exist. It is highly unlikely that what they ship is actually the full capability of what they have access to.

Pr0ject217··on Apple introduces M4 chip
"Which would be at odds with sending data up to the cloud for processing"

I don't think there is enough information here for that to be a true claim - it is possible to send the input used for inference, to the cloud, while computing the result locally. It is also possible to store the input used for inference while offline, and send that later when the device is online.

Highly recommend Ricky Ryan. Argentian DJ.

His textures mixes are a bit more laid back, perfect for the early morning: https://m.soundcloud.com/rickyryan/sets/textures

His mixtapes mixes are a bit more clubby, but still not too fast: https://m.soundcloud.com/rickyryan/sets/mixtapes

He releases a polished mix once a month, and he's been DJing for a very long time.

Pr0ject217··on The Emacsen family, the design of an Emacs and the importance of Lisp (2023)
Speaking from personal experience, I moved from VSCode to Doom Emacs a year ago, and the on-ramp wasn't nearly long or as tough as I thought. The defaults are good, and anything else that I customized I actually just used ChatGPT/GPT-4 to generate it. It took about a month to get used to the new setup. With LSP/Magit, it feels like I'm not missing out on much from what VSCode offered, and then whenever I want to personalize it, I can. For a creative person (which I'd argue most developers are, kind of by definition), it's fun.
Pr0ject217··on Show HN: Mukette, a Markdown Pager for Unix-Based Systems
It would be cool to see a screenshot.
Pr0ject217··on Ask HN: Getting Started with DAW?
Other cross-platform alternatives:

Bitwig (1 month free trial, I believe)

Reaper (can re-'evaluate' forever) - better for mixing than producing IMO

Valve may not be a hardware company on the scale of Apple, but they do design/prototype/create/repair hardware products. Also, they do a lot more than just distribute software [0].

Pr0ject217··on Opusmodus: Common Lisp Music Composition System
I agree. When possible/working with sound, I would take a tactile experience (right-brain/feel?) over a mathematical/analytical experience (left-brain/logic?). I also don't know music theory and I haven't dedicated time to learn math, so I lean on my intuition more than anything.
Pr0ject217··on Northlight technology in Alan Wake 2
I want to read it, but I don't want any spoilers (or, remove any surprise). I'll check it out after I've played the game!
