PixelB··on Legal marijuana is taking a bite out of drug cartels' profits
You may not be so sure of that, but I am.

A "marijuana drug test" usually means testing for THC metabolites, not active THC in your blood stream. These can show up on test results a month after you ingested anything.

Imagine if tomorrow you were called in and they did a test to see if you had a single beer/glass of wine in the last month. Would you pass that test? If you would, great.. I'm willing to put down money that most people wouldn't.

PixelB··on In Colorado, a look at life after marijuana legalization
Your argument holds zero weight/relevance in this discussion because you can not die from an overdose of marijuana. No, not even if you ate a 50 edibles. Not even if you smoked 15 blunts back to back.

People like to throw out the "hospitalized" statement all the time. Just because someone was taken to the hospital does not mean that they were ever in any actual danger. Someone's kid eats an edible and "feels funny" so they are taken to the hospital. Someone's kid eats a bottle full of Vicodin that they thought were candy and are taken to the hospital.. if you think those two things present the same danger to the child than I don't even know how to respond.

PixelB··on Amazon Free Shipping minimum is now $49
Good idea, I'll be sure to do that too!

To be fair though, I believe people are much more likely to see a product rating than a seller rating. As evidenced by the number of "unbiased" 5 star reviews.

PixelB··on Amazon Free Shipping minimum is now $49
I tend to give negative product reviews when harassed by the sellers like this. In my opinion, the review should also be reflective of the company making/selling the product.
PixelB··on A bot has successfully appealed $3M worth of parking tickets in the UK
Oh how I wish it was like that here! Unfortunately, those with the most money write the laws here.
PixelB··on A bot has successfully appealed $3M worth of parking tickets in the UK
Welcome to USA. Why would they replace them when they work just fine, from their perspective. And even when they don't work properly, it's you that pays the price not them.
PixelB··on A bot has successfully appealed $3M worth of parking tickets in the UK
This completely depends on where you are located. In NYC there are many, many areas with unclear signs or unclear rules that not everyone knows, and are ticketed because of this. In addition, some departments are simply corrupt.

For example: Seaside Heights, NJ.

A few years back my mom went to the shore and parked in a metered parking area. She put in 2 hours worth of time and went to the beach. She came back 1 1/2 hours later, and the meter was expired with a ticket waiting on her car. She fought the ticket and found out that the meters were broken and running too fast, and the parking officials knew about it.. but continued to write tickets. Their justification was that "All people have to do is dispute the ticket and we will drop the charges." but how many people simply pay tickets without fighting them because of a lack of time? Scumbags.

PixelB··on The Political War on Cash
The main issue here is actually the 500 euro note, not the $100 bill. The idea is that such notes fund a great deal of terrorist activities overseas, and I sort of agree that we shouldn't have such large denominations.

I would even be okay with getting rid of the $100 bill. Let's face it, people who deal in VERY large amounts of cash $100,000+ are not good people. Drug dealers or politicians (same thing in my opinion) don't use $20 bills as amounts that high get very cumbersome. If you find yourself in a situation with so many $20 bills that you physically can't carry them around, I have literally zero sympathy for you.

Slippery slope? Maybe, but as it stands I have no issue.

PixelB··on Paypal froze our funds, then offered us a business loan
According to the article, PayPal claimed that it was not an automated ad and they were in fact eligible for it.

"To paraphrase: “It may seem weird that we’re holding collateral on your account and offering you a loan, but that was not a mistake! You’re still eligible. Contact me if interested.”"

PixelB··on Chemical clears Alzheimer's protein and restores memory in mice
>>Mouse models are rapidly becoming obsolete as it's becoming easier than ever to model entire, differentiated tissues grown from red blood cell-derived adult stem cells.

No they aren't. Transgenic mouse models are a $billion industry. We do not understand biological mechanisms nearly enough to not use live animal models. We are not even able to recreate single cell organisms with our level of knowledge and engineering.

>>FYI: making a new mouse models requires lots of chopping off heads of mice whom don't possess the desired gene. While transgenic, highly-edited living models might be nice, there's probably a more humane and simpler way to do the exact same thing.

Ah, the real root of your argument. Do you even know what the word humane means? I work in a labroatory and the animals are treated better than the people. Yes, a lot of mice are killed.. but for a reason. You say there's probably a simpler way to do the exact same thing, but there simply isn't. I wish more people were actually educated in this matter, but emotional responses tend to get more results.

PixelB··on Cancer survivors less likely to receive callbacks from potential employers
I'm willing to say subjectively that they have gotten worse. Some of the practices I've seen from the inside are downright despicable. Take your pick.. age, race, gender, health status.. I've seen the hiring department at our company pull it all. We had a candidate turned down because she spoke with a lisp and the manager said she wanted someone "intelligent" for the job.. despite the candidate's graduation from an ivy league college.
PixelB··on Cancer survivors less likely to receive callbacks from potential employers
This is disgusting, but not surprising. Companies want young, healthy people that they can under-pay and over-work without fear of them needing a medical leave.
PixelB··on Mealworms can eat and biodegrade styrofoam
Well, not quite.

"The worms converted about half of the Styrofoam into carbon dioxide, as they would with any food source."

So they produce CO2 as well as a byproduct.

Wow, that Goblinscomic guy fails at web design 101.

There's a huge black graphical bar in the background with black text that males the left inch of that paragraph unreadable.

PixelB··on Mapping the Hourly Wage Needed to Rent a 2-Bedroom Apartment in Every U.S. State
Keep in mind that in NYC there are very high priced apartments, but there are also a LOT of low income housing/slums/projects where rent is dirt cheap, it's just that people live in terrible conditions compared to what that same rent could get you elsewhere.
