PirateDave··on Ask HN: How do you familiarize yourself with a new codebase?
4. Sometimes writing UML diagrams works

I found myself doing this more often and find it very useful. I've been using Freemind and it seems to do the trick. http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

PirateDave··on The Mac App Store Won’t Make You Rich
I can back up his claim. I work for a large entertainment company that has a top 50 app, (in top grossing) and it consistently brings in hundreds of thousands of dollars a week. When it was at its highest, around 15, it was bringing in about 400-500k per week.

My thoughts exactly. I don't live in a Time Warner serviced area so I can't watch the games unless I pay ridiculous fees. I've also been attending more games in-person because of this, so maybe that was their intention all along.
PirateDave··on Get Your Shit Together
I thought this is a great starting point. Also, after looking through the actual wills, they are already filled out with George Washington's information so the legal documents are used as an example, not for actual legal use.

Plus, I'm not sure my family would enjoy looking through my will upon my death with: Get Your Shit Together! printed at the bottom of each page :)

This site is helpful to let me know which parts I overlooked like simple things like passwords or account access.

PirateDave··on Why Good Developers Write Bad Code: An Observational Case Study [pdf]
This just reminded me of whatthecommit. IIRC they get these from actual commit messages; if they do, there is no hope. :-)

PirateDave··on Atomic gardening
This was an interesting topic, but didn't provide much detail so I did a quick search and found this article that was pretty cool:

PirateDave··on Legacy of Agent Orange
Maybe Pakistan should pay something for harboring one of the world's worst war criminals? [1] I don't agree with many of things the U.S. has done in its past relating to war, but there was a Geneva convention for a reason, and it seems like the U.S. is the only one that is trying to abide to it as of late.

Maybe Falmer fits as well?

PirateDave··on Google’s ARC Now Runs Android Apps on Chrome OS, Windows, Mac, and Linux
Coming from OSX development, I read this as "Google's Automatic Reference Counting" and was thinking that it would be pretty sweet.
PirateDave··on It’s Comcastic, Or: I Accidentally Bought a House Without Cable
I don't think that it's just coincidence that this happened around the same time that SLC was announced for Google Fiber as well.
PirateDave··on Show HN: Interactive Comparison of 150 3D-Printers
Agree. I've been looking for something similar to what they made for the SSD chart.
PirateDave··on Ask HN: Does anyone else value the comments more than the link?
I have the same view. I can usually go through the comments without reading the article. Also, the comments will usually provide more insight with first-hand accounts or analogies.
PirateDave··on Company hit with $1.1M penalty under Canadian anti-spam rules
If I sign-up for something just to get through a paywall or to use the service one-time, I will usually use something like guerrilla mail: https://www.guerrillamail.com
