Pimpus··on My Sudden Trip to Hell
It was absolutely caused by unconscious emotions (like stress). The following part just made me laugh out loud:

> This mainly involves infection by the Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria and more commonly affects young, healthy adults. I didn't do anything to get it, it just happened - like being struck by lightning.

The jarring contrast between medicine's ability to perform surgical miracles, like those described in the article, and it's total inability to understand what causes illness, is just comical. I guess there is money in one and not the other.

Pimpus··on We Have Ruined Childhood
The US became too prosperous, too fast. They're an example for other countries to learn from in their own development - emulate the good parts, avoid the bad. In Eastern Europe smart phones are just starting to become commonplace and people are already aware of how harmful they are, parents especially. The US does have one huge advantage the other countries don't though.

> I can't really tell what's true anymore

This is by design, and politics is just stagecraft meant to hypnotize the masses, distract and confuse them.

Pimpus··on Counterintuitive physics property found to be widespread in living organisms
It's funny that you are not only proving his point, but yours as well, by inventing some elaborate story of your own.
Pimpus··on What Does a Coder Do If They Can't Type?
I'm sorry to hear about the pain many of you suffer from. Please consider reading a book from Dr. Sarno. He will challenge the mechanistic view of the human body many of you erroneously hold. More importantly, he will cure you if you're willing to be cured.
Pimpus··on 8chan goes dark after hardware provider discontinues service
That's the problem with leftists in censorship discussions - they fundamentally don't believe in free will. It's not the website that shot people. It wasn't Trump. It was the individual. Believing otherwise is highly problematic as it leads to authoritarianism.
Pimpus··on 8chan goes dark after hardware provider discontinues service
Again, as I said in my other comment, this just sounds like a right wing version of Twitter.
Pimpus··on 8chan goes dark after hardware provider discontinues service
I highly doubt there is more "hate-speech" on right wing 8chan than on left wing Twitter.

Also, users are driven to these sites from other social media where even moderate views are often considered "fascist" and can get you banned.

Pimpus··on Ask HN: If your job was remote, which city would you choose to live in?
It's sad that people are willing to sacrifice culture and sovereignty because they're scared of a temporarily weaker economy.
Pimpus··on What Swimming Taught Me About Happiness
You should look into aquatic ape theory, it might explain why we feel so good when we swim. One of the ideas is that swimming required us to develop breath control, which was a prerequisite for developing speech.
Pimpus··on A Thriving Civilization in Malta Collapsed 4k Years Ago
Interesting article claiming that the Maltese civilization is much older than believed. It goes into the politics of archeology as well:

https://grahamhancock.com/reedijkl1/

If you find the revised date hard to believe, take a look at this:

https://6abc.com/science/9000-year-old-city-unearthed-in-isr...

Also look up Gobekli Tepe.

Pimpus··on Evolutionary gene loss may explain why only humans are prone to heart attack
So now we're including "survival of the unfittest" as part of evolutionary theory? Sorry, this makes zero sense. If humans really did evolve, then we hit the lottery - several times.
Pimpus··on Fighting persistent Lyme disease symptoms
> The author has spent a decade fighting persistent Lyme disease symptoms—and convincing those who don’t believe him that his illness is real

It is real. An illness caused by psychology is no less real than an illness caused by physiology.

Look up the work of John Sarno. You may be amazed that seemingly mysterious diseases which defy diagnosis can be cured by reading a book or watching a few lectures on YouTube.

Pimpus··on How to assess the quality of garments (2014)
> I now have a closet full of quality clothes that I wear much less frequently, but, for whatever it's worth, they'll last me the rest of my life.

> Or rather, they're expensive upfront but often turn out to be more economical over the life of the garment.

Okay, but this is assuming that your body composition does not change and the clothes continue to fit you. Your body is more important to how you look than the clothes you wear, so if you are logical then you place priority on continually improving your body composition.

The most salient factor when buying clothing is how they fit you and your wardrobe. Quality is important insofar as an article of clothing does not distort after a wash (washing properly is also important), but you should expect to discard after a season or two. Buying expensive clothing doesn't make logical or economic sense.

Pimpus··on The forgotten joy of soap
We are descended from at least 7000 generations of man, and 99.9% of these ancestors had never even heard of toothpaste.
Pimpus··on How to Unlearn a Disease
Er, no. The initial reaction was caused by unconscious stress or rage brought on by public speaking and the subsequent incidents were a learned Pavlovian response.

I am always recommending The Mindbody Prescription on here and have no idea why you lot refuse to read it. There is no excuse, this topic is too important. And it would stop silly comments like yours dead in the water. Everything the article mentions make perfect sense from the perspective of unconscious emotion, and moreover, this perspective gives you great understanding of psychology and curative and even predictive capabilities.

Pimpus··on “Evidence-based medicine has been hijacked”: John Ioannidis (2016)
Most of these same countries also outlawed dmt ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Your argument is basically just an appeal to authority.

As far as artificial sweeteners go, you'd have to be an idiot to knowingly consume an unnatural, laboratory made chemical.

Pimpus··on Ask HN: What do you do with your Raspberry Pi?
Tinnitus is usually a psychosomatic symptom, especially if you haven't suffered any kind of ear trauma recently. Medicine only begrudgingly accepts the role of stress despite it being obvious to sufferers, however stress is only part of a much more interesting story. Look up John Sarno's work if you're interested.
Pimpus··on Ask HN: What do you do with your Raspberry Pi?
I briefly perused the wiki article for meniere's and it fits all the hallmark signs of a psychosomatic symptom, right down to medieval, I mean mainstream medicine not knowing the cause. I recommend reading Divided Mind - good luck!
Pimpus··on Advice on Getting Better from an Accomplished Piano Player (2011)
Hah, that is an excellent book. I remember it pissed off one of my friends who claimed that slow practice is the best way to learn. Glad I didn't listen to him, I use these techniques when learning all kinds of stuff.

Glenn Gould practiced by playing fast: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qB76jxBq_gQ

Pimpus··on Underwater Drones Nearly Triple Data from the Ocean Floor
It would be really neat if they found traces of "Atlantis", assuming some of it survived underwater erosion. They already found a few sites off the coasts of India and Indonesia. And We know an ancient civilization existed that got wiped out at the end of the last ice age - for those interested in a virtually unending rabbit hole, look up Gobekli Tepe and Graham Hancock on YT.
Pimpus··on People with Greater Intellectual Humility Have Superior General Knowledge
It's funny, I always considered myself one of the most humble people i know. Guess this explains why I am so knowledgeable about so many topics.
Pimpus··on When we say “Everest is crowded,” this is what we mean
waiting in queue
Pimpus··on The Problem With Happiness
> There's also a sense that nothing is really new anymore. Whatever someone throws at me, I can fit it somewhere in my worldview.

I find this hard to believe. Are you not surprised by traveling? Art? dmt experiences?

Pimpus··on People Who Claim to Work 75-Hour Weeks Usually Only Work About 50 Hours
You might want to read The Mindbody Prescription to resolve your lingering chronic health issues.
Pimpus··on The Efficiency Delusion
Reminds me of Universal Paperclips.
Pimpus··on The Invigorating Strangeness of Friedrich Nietzsche
Isn't this all common knowledge? I don't think anyone has considered Nietzsche a Nazi for a long time. I certainly didn't learn anything new and I have only a cursory familiarity with Nietzsche and his works. This review(?) doesn't even mention some of the more interesting aspects of his life, and the snide comment about Zarathustra was just... strange. I'm sure the biography is great, this review doesn't sell it very well at all.
Pimpus··on Ecuador to Expel Assange Within ‘Hours to Days,’ WikiLeaks Says
Wrong on all three points.
Pimpus··on Laws against lies: Asian governments are trying to curb fake news
It's now coming out that Hillary and Obama were up to some serious shenanigans at the very least. In fact your post is a great example of the dangers of this kind of legislation and how easy it is to get wrong. Even Trump doesn't want to go that far and he's the world's biggest victim of fake news.
Pimpus··on Filing Your Taxes Is an Expensive Time Sink. That’s Not an Accident
> The part that I found most surprising is that in the US there is basically no way for an individual to read the law and follow it. The law is way too complex and murky.

Our nation was founded largely by lawyers.

Pimpus··on 25 Years Later: Interview with Linus Torvalds
> The very definition of a citizen was one who was active in politics (the inverse being someone preoccupied with their own private matters, an "idiotis" in Ancient Greek, and the etymology for "idiot").

Um, OK... but not everything is a political act. It's just a ridiculous meme I see now and again.
