Pigo··on How to make a web app work offline
Dexie is great, but it's a good idea to understand the lower level before you start leveraging the wrapper for it. I jumped into Tone.js before understanding the Web Audio API, and I eventually regretted it.
Pigo··on Radiooooo – The Music Time Machine
I could see they are using three.js for a visual library, but I couldn't tell what they were using for audio. Maybe they are interacting with the web audio api directly, since they are only playing a single piece at a time. I didn't hear in fade in/out or more advanced functionality.
Pigo··on Photographer Jacob Riis showed “How the Other Half Lives” in 1890s NYC (2017)
The older I get the more of a connection I feel with historical images/video/audio. Viewing life on this planet without the constraint of time feels as profound as contemplating the depths of space. It's just out of my reach, but I keep reaching for it because that is where the answers are. Some things seem to be in a constant state of change while others remain in a constant cycle.
Pigo··on Scientists Are Starting to Take Warp Drives Seriously
But they got it down to only needing the total negative energy requirement to be around the mass of Jupiter. So we're on our way?
Pigo··on Apple wont let bad guys use iPhones in movies, director says
In my experience most people who use iphones are at least a little bad. It definitely puts a check in the "I probably won't like this person" column.
Pigo··on Trump administration backs Oracle in Google fight
What does that have to do with my point?

I know Trump is a reality show host, but he seems to focus on the culture war and Twitter, not high level corporate battles the masses rarely pay attention to.

Does that make my observation worth thinking about?

Pigo··on Trump administration backs Oracle in Google fight
I know Trump is a politician, but he seems to focus on the culture war and Twitter, not high level corporate battles the masses rarely pay attention to.
Pigo··on Poolside.fm
Not sure how that happened. I had replied to a comment where someone posted a link to https://www.windows93.net/

Sorry for the confusion.

Pigo··on Poolside.fm
There's so much music these days, a lot of really interesting and innovative stuff. You just don't get to hear it because everything has to be written by someone like Max Martin to get on "popular" media. When you look at the catalog of pop songs him and his mentor are responsible for, it puts a lot of the music scene into perspective.
Pigo··on Poolside.fm
Thanks. The only thing that doesn't click with me and a lot of these kinds of sites, is that I was never an Apple user. There were some at school, but I started with early Windows. Not making a value judgement, just saying I have very little nostalgia for Apple because I didn't use it.
Pigo··on Ontario's new license plates have a problem: you can't read them
If you have a really fast car and want to commit a crime, Ontario might be the place to be right now.
Pigo··on Writing Grant Applications
I find this very fascinating. Just out of curiosity, how often to come across organizations that you would turn down if it was your decision to give them a grant? For whatever reason: wastefulness, greediness, or just plain pointless.
Pigo··on Calculating Pi: My Attempt at Breaking the Pi World Record
I got curious about the BOINC platform he mentioned. It reminds me of the SETI@home screensaver I used to run many years ago. I guess I'd just forgotten about it at some point, but I used to enjoy watching the data it was processing. It's pretty cool that there's another platform out there that lets you contribute to other programs.
Pigo··on Nintendo Play Station Super NES CD-ROM Prototype
It's more of a modern issue, but I recently discovered that a lot of triple A console games are demo'd (at trade shows and in promo videos) on a pc. They then cut down video quality and content to port them to the console game you can actually buy. There's video of a pc hidden under a desk, and a console controller modified to work with it.

It may be old news to a lot of people, but that blew my mind. I don't see how that is acceptable. I guess that hardware for these consoles is still a struggle.

Pigo··on Apple engineer killed in Tesla crash had previously complained about autopilot
Have you seen the roads in Alabama? They have this weird, red asphalt and rarely any edge lines. In Louisiana they have these elevated roads over the bayou that don't seem to have break-down lanes. In Tennessee they have roads that go through mountains with shocking curves and gradients. Pot holes, broken lights & signs, weird parking lots, new construction, and seeing a small ball roll near the road and knowing that a kid might be coming after it soon.

It seems like it would take an endless list to cover every new edge case. Our technology is a amazing, but I almost think the edge case is places where autonomous driving makes sense.

The thing I trust the least is the operators they want to put in these cars. They better be completely autonomous, self-maintaining, and somehow tamper-proof. It's a really tall order, which I hope we do fulfill one day. But maybe I'm a pessimist, and they have it all figured out already.

Pigo··on SoundCloud raises $75M from SiriusXM
Don't they have some kind of deal with auto manufacturers, putting their system into every car coming off the line?
Pigo··on A dark web tycoon pleads guilty, but how was he caught?
I think the confusion here is some of us were talking about Tor as in "the onion router" as a protocol and some were talking about The Tor Project software. Who knows if government agencies use the tor project, or have their own specialized version.

The only reason I asked was because I've heard that government agencies need Tor because it's in their best interest to have channels for anonymity (again, not giving an opinion on whether it's good or bad, just a fact). So if methods for breaking that anonymity arise, I'd imagine it's a concern for them as much as any dissident out there.

Pigo··on A dark web tycoon pleads guilty, but how was he caught?
The military needs, or needed, Tor to be functioning and anonymous for their own use, correct?

Pigo··on Webcam, Lights, and Audio for Remote Work, Podcasting, Videos, and Streaming
Thanks, I think this is what I need. I've done it with some streaming software out there. But it needs to come from a camera source to spoof it into a regular Hangouts meet I believe.
Pigo··on Overview of vulnerabilities in web applications
I always thought a lot of the biggest hacks were done by insiders, or with insider information. I know there's a lot you can hunt for out there. But being part of the team that built something of interest, knowing what is exploitable, could be a big temptation.
Pigo··on Webcam, Lights, and Audio for Remote Work, Podcasting, Videos, and Streaming
I recently got a green screen to use during my video conferencing. I thought it would be fun just to mess with my co-workers, make it look like I'm on the Mars or something. I've yet to figure out how to get it to work with gotomeeting/skype/hangouts video though. I've found apps that can do it for recorded video, but I suppose it's on the camera to have the chroma effect available. Which the one I have doesn't do. I don't want to spend too much just for a joke.
Pigo··on Angular 9.0
Almost every problem I've seen with Angular involve people not knowing how to implement features correctly or using it for what it wasn't meant to be used for. You know, the same problems people have with all frameworks.
Pigo··on Amazon Dating: The Future of Dating
Those prices seem extremely low, I'd think.
Pigo··on Ask HN: What Skills to Acquire in 2020?
I've started some woodworking projects. My first couple of attempts left a lot to be desired. It seems like a lot of it is just having the right tools. I mostly enjoy the sanding and staining part, or using a torch to weather proof it.

The other thing is I can't find good plans. If I have a plan to follow, it makes all the difference, I don't know enough to figure it out as I go. Like right now, I've been wanting to build a pool stick holder. Probably one that is on the ground, not attached to the wall. Even the sites I look at that have plans you pay for, they don't seem that helpful.

Pigo··on Bosch Smart glasses: A tiny laser array paints images directly onto your retina
It seems rude in most contexts, to just shove your conversation into everyone else's life. Unless it's a real emergency, I don't get how people think it's okay.

I think a lot of people don't realize that a lot of people consider it a luxury to be out of contact for periods of time.

Pigo··on Sand dunes can 'communicate' with each other
It does make it sound like something first hypothesized at Burning Man. And thanks to the research being described this way, numerous people can misunderstand and go on to tell others about science proving sand dunes can talk to each other.
Pigo··on The Future of Moving
That sounds like something mafia guys would do in some tv show. I'm not surprised it happens, but I'm curious where this kind of behavior is still tolerated.
Pigo··on Hard negotiations: why a softer approach yields better outcomes
I know negotiation is like a sport in some cultures, but I find it needlessly antagonizing. I'd rather pay extra to just not deal with it, and find other means of getting said product/service in the future.

Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try and love one another, right now...

Pigo··on Hard negotiations: why a softer approach yields better outcomes
I'm actually looking to unload a sofa right now. If anyone is interested in the Cincinnati area.
