Great work on moving from an ebook to a SaaS business model.

No-one likes AI replies though

Andrew Kamphey is a creator who has made $200k from teaching people how to use Google Sheets over the past three years. Think 'Miss Excel' but he's a beardy guy from Florida who doesn't dance in his videos.

Pete-Codes··on Making $10k/m from a French learning app
Cheers for posting this. That’s my site! It’s very cool how he learned to code so quickly as well. I’m glad Benjamin can share his story with everyone.

So many people want to learn languages as well so it’s a huge market to sell to. Very smart.

Plenty more stories like this coming out every Wednesday in the newsletter btw https://www.highsignal.io/newsletter/

Pete-Codes··on Ask HN: How do I make a website in 2023?
Funnily enough a lot server side options like Rails and PHP with Laravel are having a resurgence in popularity. Like other people have said, there are a million different options, which is partly the problem in the world of JS.

I would just go with what you know already and find the easiest way forward. Lots of SaaS companies like Shopify and ConvertKit work on Rails so why not just re-fresh your knowledge there instead of learning the latest JS library? Ask ChatGPT to fill in gaps of your knowledge. I've also heard good things about Rails Casts and I've just gone to their site and the Pro content is now all free!

Basically, the best programming language is the one you know best.

Pete-Codes··on UK universities slide down global rankings
Considering how much more funding US universities have, this is inevitable. Also, most people here don't fund endowments or really give back to their universities.

Hopefully I can save other founders from trying to monetize communities.
Pete-Codes··on Show HN: Boring Report, a news app that uses AI to desensationalize the news
Great news - even the newspapers I enjoy sensationalise
Pete-Codes··on ‘Nearshoring’ Push Is Fueling Tech Job Demand in Latin America
I think people underestimate how much people want to hire from their own country for cultural reasons as well as logistics/HR reasons.
Pete-Codes··on On mindsets, mind shifts and wins
I can relate to this a lot, especially on picking clothes!
Pete-Codes··on Twitter was down
No bio links work for me
Pete-Codes··on U.S. food additives banned in Europe
I know Americans who have the same diet in the US and Europe and they always lose weight as soon as they come to Europe

Looks good! I can see this being popular.

The Courage to be Disliked is a game-changing book for me so I'd read that if you liked the article.

Pete-Codes··on How and why I built Japan Dev
Awesome job! Job boards are incredibly hard (I should know, I've made a couple)

Interesting business model too - either it makes nothing or big amounts of money when you get a referral

Pete-Codes··on Las Palmas digital nomad review
I thought I'd share a write up I did of working from the Canary Islands in Spain. I hope someone finds it useful.
Pete-Codes··on Will low and no code tools ever truly disrupt tech development?
I just keep hearing "no code is the future!" from people who sell no-code courses
Pete-Codes··on Show HN: The opposite of a job board, an ideal role board for product folks
It's a nice idea but unfortunately it's usually the company that has the power

Giggly - may have to re-think summer plans
