Thanks Alex for posting this!
PeOe··on “The China Study” and Longevity
It seems the author is already kind of biased when he set out to analyse the data.. use of the term 'overzealous vegans' in the first paragraph sets of a few alarms for me.

I think it would be interesting to look at other long term studies (like the 7th adventist study someone else mentioned here) as well as studies that look at plant based eating as a cure/preventative method for more specific/acute diseases (like Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's WFPBN solution for cardiovascular disease, or Dr. Greger's 'How Not to Die' which compiles and summarizes research in the WFPB space https://nutritionfacts.org/book/)

PeOe··on Ask HN: What are your favorite utility desktop apps?
I like 1Clipboard on Windows http://1clipboard.io/ but I'd love to find a Windows version of Flycut for Mac https://github.com/TermiT/Flycut where you can use a shortut to view & toggle through the latest clips (since that's usually my use-case). Any ideas?

Click.to http://www.clicktoapp.com/ is also super useful (I use it mostly for looking up German translations & wikipedia stuff)

PeOe··on Ask HN: What books changed the way you think about almost everything?
Thank you for this! I love Alan Watts too. Recently I've started listening to "chillstep" mixes of his talks on youtube (while doing yoga/meditating). They're really fantastic. Eg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLu1wP9HhYM
PeOe··on Ask HN: What books changed the way you think about almost everything?
Oh I loved Freakonomics!! What an excellent question. I want to propose 2 books: 1. Getting Things Done by David Allen. It really changed how I approach not only my workday but pretty much everything that could constitute "work" in my daily life. It's a bit of a learning curve to start, but once you implement GTD in your life it becomes second nature. You can learn about it here: https://gettingthingsdone.com/ and there's a good intro to it here: https://zenkit.com/en/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-getting-thin.... 2. How Not to Die by Dr. Michael Greger. When you start thinking of plants as medicine it really changes your whole approach to food and life in general. I've started following his 'daily dozen' and I've got to say that I feel absolutely incredible. (Check out his website here: https://nutritionfacts.org/)

Amazing works of fiction that I come back to again and again include Anna Karenina and The Three Musketeers

PeOe··on Revery – Native, high-performance, cross-platform desktop apps
Has anyone here actually tried using it? I'd be interested to hear a comparison between Revery and Electron in terms of ease of use, performance, drawbacks etc. I read through the README but tbh I'd prefer an external opinion.

PeOe··on Ask HN: What linux desktop tools/apps boosted your productivity?
I use Zenkit (project management tool) to organize all my tasks and keep track of the progress. It's also available as Snap.
PeOe··on Ask HN: How do you schedule your life?
Getting things done and time blocking are good methods. The worst ist setting all up so you can start over with this methods. It's a lot of work but in the end, it's an awesome feeling. In the beginning, after setting it up, you really need to stay focused on this methods and stick to them. After a while, you get used to it and it becomes much easier.

If you want to learn more about it, I can recommend this articles about GTD https://zenkit.com/en/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-getting-thin...

PeOe··on Airtable raises $100M at a $1.1B valuation
Have you taken a look at https://zenkit.com/ ?
PeOe··on Ask HN: Do you take notes during work? If so, what do you use?
For short notes or reminders which should last about an hour, I use just sticky post its. For further info and task-related stuff, I use our own tool https://zenkit.com. It's really good to visualize your notes and tasks.
PeOe··on Ask HN: Task list/to-do tools like Trello, but with checkboxes?
I would recommend Zenkit (https://zenkit.com). The press expresses Zenkit as a "Trello-Killer". You have the Trello-like Kanban board but also a list view, calendar, mind map and table view.

If you have set up your board you can activate the checkboxes in the settings of this collection.

PeOe··on Ask HN: Is it just me, or are fake callers getting out of control?
At the beginning of this year, I had a lot of fake calls. What helped was blocking the numbers when I discovered it was a fake. They tried several days while they were blocked and it stopped. Then they tried a new number and I blocked them again. After a few weeks, they stopped calling and they haven't done it since then. If you don't want to answer the calls where you don't know the number, just reject the call, google the number and have a look at the owner or if someone says it's a fake. If it's a real person you can call back.
PeOe··on Ask HN: Is it worth taking a 25% paycut to join a startup?
If you can handle the cut, then yes. It's awesome to work in a startup. You can learn so many things, more than just your work area. The colleagues are more like a family and you will do more things together. You have also times where you need to work more but you can be more creative and you are able to offer more ideas which can help the startup flourish.
PeOe··on Ask HN: Founders, what is the worst experience you had with developers?
We had a developer who worked on one of our projects. After he left, it was a disaster. Our new developers discovered that the names and items he used were strange and not related to what it should do. So the devs needed to go through all codes, figure out what it's doing and rename the code. It took a lot of time...
PeOe··on Ask HN: What are you working on and why is it cool?
I'm working on Zenkit. It's a collaborative project and task management software which is meanwhile a great alternative to Trello, Wunderlist and other tools on the market. The flexibility it gives us in the office (yes we use it ourselves in every department) is awesome and we have so many ideas on how to improve it that we sometimes not know what to do first. The potential is high and I'm curious about where we are going with that.
PeOe··on Ask HN: I just started blogging; how can I improve?
It could be all at the same. You could have a column or a List for Ideas. You could create a calendar with day's that could be used for a special posting like "world Nutella day" (okay that might be not your topic but I hope you get what I was trying to explain. Or use the calendar to keep the focus of constant postings. On the other hand, a content plan can offer you a great timetable for your actual writing. Add tasks for "research", "writing" or "add pictures" until the article is published. You can also add a template for your article and its structure. So it's everything to keep your head in the game and focus on what's important.
PeOe··on Ask HN: I just started blogging; how can I improve?
I would recommend reading other similar blogs to get some input on how they do it. A content plan would be a good idea as well.
PeOe··on Ask HN: For remote company, what tools do you use to manage teams and projects?
Zenkit with some of its integrations works well for us.
PeOe··on Show HN: Ymappr – a todo app using mapped lists instead of regular lists
True! You can do so many things with mind maps and few people know about it;)
PeOe··on Show HN: Ymappr – a todo app using mapped lists instead of regular lists
I love Mind Maps. We already added a mind map view to our own project management software and it's awesome. So the idea is good but really need to show some examples and screenshots (as mentioned from various people). I'm curious how it will look in the future.
PeOe··on Ask HN: What is a good alternative to Confluence?
Have a look at https://zenkit.com . We use it for almost everything in the office. It's cloud-based with different data views and you are able to build your own database.

As you mentioned, there are comment sections for each task/item with mentioning. Reminder and due dates can be established. Change the sorting with a few clicks or use the search function.

PeOe··on Wharton professor says America should shorten the work day by 2 hours
Could be, but if you are working, you need time to relax and build up new "power". I think for professional gamers, playing is work and free time at once. Maybe that's the point why they are able to focus for a longer period of time.
PeOe··on Wharton professor says America should shorten the work day by 2 hours
There are studies which say that people can only focus on work six hours a day. Others say you need time to relax to become better concentrated at work. So why should people be forced to work 8 hours when 6 hours get the same result but the employees are more motivated.

I wish it would be common in Germany too...

PeOe··on Ask HN: What is the dark side of working at a successful startup?
The fear of failing and long working hours.
PeOe··on Show HN: Prod – Blocks addictive websites until you've finished your to-do list
It looks great and I think there are a lot of potentials. But you need to create a to-do list which could be finished in the right amount of time. But in the beginning, it's difficult to know how long you need for which task. Is it possible to unlock the websites after x finished to-do's? Maybe unlock it for 30 minutes?

We build our own productivity Tool Zenkit and that's why I need to discover tools in a different way.

PeOe··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of all of your productivity tools?
The tools you use should work for you and they need to complement one another. Most tools can be used together by integrations and that's really cool sometimes.

But the main point should be to reduce the number of tools. They are a lot of great tools but they mostly focus on one area. But there are other tools, like our own https://zenkit.com/ , which combines several other tools to give you one place to work in.

PeOe··on Ask HN: Hacks to get rid of bad habits?
It's difficult to break habits but not impossible. But to cure all bad habits with one over-all solution will not work in my opinion. But for everything you need the will to change something and the power of endurance. To stop biting nails you can use chewing gum or just add an oil onto the nails (there are some made for this concerns). It's bitter and tastes bad and you won't want to bite your nails again. To stop procrastination I would recommend using the method "getting things done".
PeOe··on Ask HN: Why is Gmail trying to change its UI?
I think it's just to get some news. The longer you are on the market the older you're UI gets. To go along with trends and to stay up to date you need changes. I actually try the new UI and it just looks a bit more modern but that's it. But the people talk about it so it works ;)
