PatientTrades··on Georgia election server wiped after lawsuit filed
Wiping a server while under investigation or at the threat of a potential investigation should automatically be obstruction of justice. This happens far too often in politics and white collar crimes. Disgraceful
PatientTrades··on Twitter says it could turn first-ever profit
> and ramping up deals to sell its data to other companies

Which companies are buying this data? Considering its estimated that a third (1/3) of twitter activity is from bots retweeting, liking, and following. Not sure how much real value there actually is in this data. Twitter may turn a profit, but there are bigger issues with their model

PatientTrades··on DOJ Subpoenas Twitter About Five Users Over a Smiley Emoji Tweet
And this is why you should be very careful what you tweet. Once its out there it can never be deleted. Even with a fake name and handle. Your ip address, mac address, location, etc.
PatientTrades··on Honolulu fines pedestrians for viewing phone while crossing street
This law violates the constitution by restricting a basic liberty (In this case walking across the street while viewing your phone) this action does not directly hurt or harm anyone other than potentially yourself. Under the constitution we have a right to our life. This law violates that principle
PatientTrades··on Honolulu fines pedestrians for viewing phone while crossing street
This is unconstitutional. Same with the law requiring a seatbelt. Please tell me whos life you are endangering by crossing the street while viewing your phone? The answer is only your own. The state/government is basically saying we own your life (slavery) by instituting laws like these.
PatientTrades··on I practiced Ben Franklin's 13 virtue system for 3 years
Great post, nice system to improve the self.

Sidenote: I think its fair to say Franklin never achieved the "Justice" virtue considering he was considered a racist. I guess pretty much all influential white man in America during the 1700s were though. But check out Benjamin Franklin's "Obervations Concerning the Increase of Mankind, Peopling of Countries."

> How do these disadvantaged individuals compare with those who never left Africa?

Not sure if you are aware but the large majority of brown and dark brown skinned (black) Americans are actually indigenous Aboriginal (Native Americans). Most "Blacks" in America can be directly traced back to natives who were already in America when Europeans arrived in the 1400s. Google dark skinned Indians you will see pictures of what im talking about. Its really naïve to think that all the millions of Blacks here today all came from Africa or even have links to Africa. Just some facts that are left out of the history books and never taught.

PatientTrades··on If you care about diversity, don't just hire from the same five schools
The only solution is a government mandate. LAW: No American company can employ more than 5 individuals that graduated from the same university. Problem solved.

Herein lies the beauty of government.

PatientTrades··on Ask HN: Does a good desk setup make you more productive?
In the short term yes, but in the long term no. After a while your cognition will become accustomed to your "good desk" and what was once a fresh new desk will become just an ordinary desk. Your production will return to what is was before the "good desk." You will have to eventually update the "good desk" to maintain that level of productivity. Its a cycle..

And herein lies the problem of man

PatientTrades··on Patterns of Death in the South Still Show the Outlines of Slavery
> because of poverty (so because of slavery), disproportionately breaks those laws.

Not correct. Blacks don't disproportionally break laws. The problem is that non-violent crimes in America are disproportionally enforced. Several Thousand, probably close to a million cases of illegal white collar crime go unenforced every year. Stuff like insider trading, corruption, fraud, laundering, etc. Crimes that white people are more likely to break simply are not regularly enforced. Non-violent crimes like drug possession in Black urban areas are highly enforced, while whites in suburb areas use drugs at the same rate, are not enforced. There is a bias in the enforcement laws

PatientTrades··on Britain's 'concentration camp' in Russia
> Lenin had come to power promising supporters not only bread to eat and a share of the aristocrats' land

Timeless lesson. Always beware of a politician coming to power promising free stuff. It never works out in the best long term interest of the people/country. There are no magic tricks in this world, things have to be earned and paid for. Hopefully citizens of the west learn this sooner rather than later

PatientTrades··on Patterns of Death in the South Still Show the Outlines of Slavery
I grew up in Newport News, Virginia. Its one of the towns on the map that is nearly black. I can tell you first hand that many in that city still feel the aftermath of slavery. The poor illiteracy, cognition skills, financial mobility, health, etc, within the black community is truly staggering. I now live in California, but for anybody that claims slavery had no long term effect, go to some of those towns you will be shocked.
PatientTrades··on Stripe Atlas: Getting your first 10 customers
Quora needs to crack down on self-promoters. Every other answer includes a link to site for a product or a service. Its taking away from the genuine nature of real questions and answers. Now its just a place business people go to get the word out about their service, product, research, etc.
PatientTrades··on Bay Area hammered by loss of jobs: Lack of affordable housing strangles hiring
San Diego has the same problem. Impossible to find decent housing. Studios going for +600K, 3 bedroom homes going for 1M. More and more of us are living 1-2 hours away from work just to live comfortably. Eventually this will reach a breaking point, and the housing market will crash like 2008. House flippers basically playing hot potato with these inflated prices.
PatientTrades··on A calendar of upcoming changes to the Twitter Rules
Without President Trump twitter would be useless in all honestly. It was slowly dying similar to tumblr, myspace, etc. But Trump revitalized it and made it a staple of politics. Great way to bypass the media and talk directly to the people
PatientTrades··on Uber is charging drivers to work
The author is not telling the whole story. Uber still gets their cut of each ride, the initial $115 is simply used as a hedge or insurance. If a driver doesn't make above the $349 for the week than the $115 is returned to the driver. Uber doesn't simply pocket it. If a driver makes over $349 for the week, they get the %33 surge, and Uber will keep the initial $115.
PatientTrades··on Uber is charging drivers to work
> This is also quite illegal - you can not pay to work

You do know the offer is optional right? If a driver doesn't want to pay $115 for the 33% rate increase then they don't have to. Did you read that part? Also, many drivers could benefit from this especially if they drive full time in popular areas.

PatientTrades··on Uber is charging drivers to work
Sensationalist title indeed, still interesting though. Based on the author's previous posts it seems he has a distaste for Uber. I am curious to know why views them so negatively?
PatientTrades··on New law bans California employers from asking applicants their prior salary
This is a bad law. This will perpetuate the wage gap between men and women employees. These kind of laws will continue the "don't ask, don't tell" aura around salary information. Instead of making this information secret, salary information needs to be pushed more public, so that when someone is paid less for equal work, there is absolutely no doubt about the salary that each employee receives.

> Since BLM started, police have pulled back patrols

High murder rates in inner cities have been occurring long before the BLM. Not sure why they are being inserted in this discussion

PatientTrades··on U.S. Stood by as Indonesia Killed a Half-Million People, Papers Show
My apologies if it confused you. The present tense was in response to the article written in 2017, not the event in the 1960s.

> Fallacy of relative privation ("not as bad as")

At no point was the initial argument or complaint dismissed. Also, it was never claimed that there are more important problems in the world than the initial problem... You are applying a fallacy to a comment that does not merit that label.

PatientTrades··on U.S. Stood by as Indonesia Killed a Half-Million People, Papers Show
Does this honestly surprise anybody? We are standing by as thousands are killed in the streets of Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, etc. Can we provide solutions to our murder problems at home, before turning attention abroad?
PatientTrades··on The privilege of risk
$1M house in Southern California isn't really saying much. Down here in San Diego: 3 bedroom, 2 baths, 1000 square feet homes going for $1M. The housing market doesn't reflect real wealth imo. Owning a house in Southern Cal is akin to playing hot potato
