we have had a home manufacturing revolution, though, and making every kind of hardware is crazy accessible, look at the explosion of niche products in every single hobby space over the past ten years
I miss absolutely nothing about etching my own single layer PCBs at home
I think this might allow doing more things with the disc drive on all(?) ps2 models like running copied/homebrew ps1 discs (currently requires a modchip afaik), or potentially developing replacement optical drives/hardware emulators
vrchat is just weird enough (and for, maybe, weird people) plus the new user experience/children yelling slurs situation makes it hard to even bring up to general audiences
I do think hardcore sims and vrchat are the only good reasons to get into vr now, though
I have a GPS based PTP server, the antenna is indoors 15 feet away from a south facing window, it locks on pretty well (though this will probably depend on the surrounding buildings)
if they sell 100 of these per year (which I doubt), with profit of $3000 per unit (which I also doubt), that pays enough to employ like one person (who needs to handle sales, support, marketing, three or four different kinds of engineering, etc.)
a decent comparison because they both seem like some type of responsibility laundering, and LLMs/PAs are being given continually increasing autonomy for economic reasons
the way you phrase this implies some sort of suppression of LLM interest, but anyone eligible to vote on these could have made their own. The absence of pro-LLM proposals shows nobody wanted one enough to send an email or two about it.
if you absolutely needed a huge multi color/material printer, sure, but a prusa i3 mkwhatever was entirely adequate for normal 3d printing out of the box
VR is probably the coolest new tech of the last decade to me, hanging out with friends and exploring weird spaces is so wild (sure there are lots of flaws and limitations but it's definitely exciting and new to me even as a jaded, increasingly luddite programmer)
there are still new things and fun tech, don't give up!
are you trying to use gpio for the pps? feeding the pps into the NIC clock is what gets you the great accuracy, doing it with gpio on the main processor will have much worse jitter
numerically, most companies are not in cutting edge rapid product cycle consumer gear like apple, they instead want to buy 1000/year of the same part for a decade (or maybe gradually better, compatible equivalents)
it seems kind of perverse to to generate an image of a scene (fundamentally not derived from how it actually looked) to remember how it looked; you even immediately point out a way that it's inaccurate ("They looked younger and in better shape but you get the picture.")
